The First One

Does anyone else around here ever get great story ideas but have no idea about the actual plot?

El_Roy_1999

Yeah. That's definitely one of the problems. I hate it when that happens.

I was told once to have two plots. One at personal scale, and the other at a macro scale. Then have them both resolve together. It makes you look smart and feels satisfying.

To give an example: For personal scale, a man tries to reconcile with his estranged child. For macro scale, the man is being hunted by an organized crime ring. At the end of the story, the man is able to save his child, at great expense, from criminals. He resolves the macro plot and personal plot in a satisfying conclusion.

So toy with wildly differing plots and try to have fun. :)

Story idea but no plot?  So what do you have?  Like a story universe?  Or a basic premise?
* You are the author and you are the boss of your story!
* Take your time and write what you are driven to write and what your characters drive you to write.
* The story is the journey, and when the journey is over, we will all wish it was longer.

The First One

Yeah.  And it's not the first time.
