Was this the most development you achieved?

Yup.....

Is that Peggy Bertelsen in the black posing suit by Lesley Kozlow in the black leotard? Who is that by Lisa Elliot? Elliot and Kozlow I thought were great.

[alison brundage]

        yes.....that's Peggy Bertelsen.
Sure was an exciting time in the sport then !

[mooveeguy]

That Bertelsen I gathered was quite a powerhouse. I am presuming same was true for Lisa Elliott. Amazing to think she could put on that sort of development at her young age. I gather she must have trained as hard as Pillow.

Some just came out of the egg that way mooveeguy.  Not much gymwork necessary for them.  Rare...but possible

If only they had testing for anabolics back then, Pillow could have proven that she was clean.

She had an extremely brief dabble just prior to the Gold's and found that it really messed up her moods and life in general. She did not enjoy the Venice scene.  The combination was very negative for her.  That's when she got on the anti steroid bandwagon.  We became good friends, and stayed in letter-writing contact for many years.   Steroid abuse was the common theme of our rants.   Both of us packed up and split the scene about the same time, and our refusal to take steroids to make a mark was a big part of that.  As well, we both truly enjoyed a more private life doing the outdoorsy things we both truly loved.   Alaska for her ( doing her professional Burlesque and staying in marvelous condition for years.....Hawaii for me: surfing huge waves/working as a night nurse)    We left competitive FBB very happy girls.  We both felt fortunate to have done what we did.  I have no doubt the ability to lift weights and maintain physical condition served us both well as we grew old.
Back in the day.....PillowYou are not allowed to view links. Register or Login Probably my very closest bodybuilding buddy.  I miss her.  She's not an emailer-type.   Loves the wilderness life.  Pillow was a gal cut of a very unique cloth !

I remember reading an article she wrote for Flex noting her admission of anabolic usage. I didn't know how much it had affected her mood-wise. I know she spoke with regret about not knowing how much of her development came from the needle and how much came from her training. Elsewhere I read that she spoke of having intense aggression during her workouts and not feeling wiped out when she was dieting.
I know for a time she trained with Lyle Alzado, who admitted use of steroids.

Re: Pillow
California was not good for her.  Her steroid use was very brief.....close to zero.  ( maybe just pills, dunno)  Certainly it was not enough to have formed the physique she had.   She knew very quickly that steroids didn't agree with her.   She was so much more at rest in life as an independent bodybuilder in Anchorage Alaska.  She worked a long time there at PJs doing her own shows, making her own costumes.  Anchorage was certainly blessed for a very long time !

[mooveeguy]

Oh I wasn't attempting to dismiss her reasons. I just figured that she looked by her physique that she embraced the bodybuilding lifestyle (minus drugs). In re to my mention of if testing was done early om in the game she could have proven herself clean.
I wish I had followed the sport when she was competing as I had no idea at the time  that the 1983 American would be her last contest.
I hope that one day the powers that be in the IFBB elect such people as her into their Hall of Fame.
