The Mythical Protein Powder - Alex and Megan

Alex had never thought of herself as anything more than an ordinary girl. Her figure was skinny, her clothes were too wide, and her face always carried the shadow of insecurity. At 20, she felt like she was invisible - and she couldn't decide if that comforted her or hurt her.

The only place Alex found any refuge from her own thoughts was the gym. There, hidden behind her headphones, she spent hours trying to feel better. Not for others - but for herself. But progress was slow, almost imperceptible. For months the results were disappointing, and her gaze involuntarily lingered on others - on people like Daniel.

Daniel was the embodiment of everything she was not. Tall, muscular, confident, and always wearing a dazzling smile, he moved through the gym like everything in his life was in order. Alex often watched him from afar, wishing she could be like him, though she never mustered the courage to speak to him.
One evening, after a particularly hard workout, Alex went back to his small room and relaxed in front of his laptop. She scrolled aimlessly through social media and ads until something caught her attention. "Transcendence Protein - Unlock your true potential!" The product was presented with a clean, sleek design, and the reviews were more than convincing: "It changed my body!", "After only a month, I couldn't recognize myself in the mirror!" Alex was skeptical, but also curious. The ad promised the impossible - to change her body and even her life.

"So what," she whispered to herself. "At most I'll throw away some money."

The package arrived a week later - exquisitely packaged in a black box with gold ornaments. Inside was a small jar of white powder and the instruction, "Mix a scoop with water or milk once a day. Expect to feel effects after weeks of regular use."

Alex opened the jar curiously. The powder was fine, almost like powdered sugar, but its scent was strange-a mix of something fresh and slightly metallic. She dissolved her first dose in a glass of water and drank it. The taste was almost neutral, but with a subtle bitterness. Nothing dramatic happened, but that feeling of anticipation lingered in her mind.

For the first few days Alex didn't notice any changes. Her life stayed the same - lectures in the morning, short work in the afternoon and gym workouts in the evening. The only difference was that she felt more awake, as if the tiredness she always dragged with her had disappeared. It was a little unexpected, but she attributed it to the placebo effect. "You're just kidding yourself," she told herself.

Her energy was constant, though. On the fifth day, while running on the treadmill at the gym, she noticed she could hold out longer than usual. Her heart seemed to beat slower, more controlled, and her breathing was even. Then, while doing leg exercises, she felt a lightness she hadn't experienced before. Not that she could lift more, but the movement was smoother, as if her muscles were responding better.

A week after starting the supplement, Alex began to notice small changes in her body - but they were so subtle she could have imagined them. As she looked in the mirror after her shower, she noticed that her arms looked a little more defined, her skin seemed smoother. But most of all, she felt a strength that she hadn't had before. There was still no visible progress, but every morning she woke up with anticipation.

Alex kept going to the gym, where her routine remained the same. Danielle, of course, was still the star of the gym, attracting all eyes. Alex tried not to look at him, but when her eyes accidentally met his, she quickly averted her gaze, embarrassed.

One evening, as she was performing her last exercises, Daniel walked past her. Alex noticed that he seemed to pause for a moment and cast a glance at her. Her heart skipped a beat. "I must just be imagining things," she thought. But something in the way he looked at her made her feel strangely confident.

And though the change was slow, Alex could feel something inside her begin to awaken - something that even she herself couldn't define.

Alex sat on her bed, wearing comfortable workout leggings and a wide t-shirt, with her headphones wrapped around her neck. In her hands was the small jar of the supplement that had now become almost a ritual for her. Every day she dissolved it in water and drank it expectantly, even though there were no concrete results. Or at least not the ones the advertising promised.

She took the measuring spoon, stirred the powder into a glass of water, and watched the liquid turn a murky white. She took a sip and set the glass down on the nightstand.

"Maybe it's utter nonsense," she thought, resting her head on her hand. "Maybe I'm expecting too much from something I don't even know is real."

At the same time, deep down, she couldn't deny that something had changed. The energy he'd been feeling for the past few days was unusual. She always tired easily - especially after long workouts or lectures. Now, however, her body seemed to be recovering faster.

But was this an effect of the supplement, or was she just imagining it?

That evening Alex went to the gym at the usual time. Workouts at that time were always more relaxed. Most of the 'serial exercisers' had already left, and the atmosphere was quiet, allowing her to focus.

As she stretched out on the mat, she glanced at the heavy equipment in the distance. Her attention immediately rested on Daniel. He was doing squats with the weights, his focus on them, his muscles showing beneath the thin t-shirt. Alex quickly averted her gaze, but not before admitting to herself, "How can he look so perfect?"

On the other hand, inside he felt a slight irritation. He was so unattainable - not just because of his physique, but because of the confidence that oozed from him. Alex imagined what it would be like if she could speak to him, if he looked at her as more than just one of the many faces in the room.

"It's stupid," she chided herself. "He doesn't even know I exist."

Towards the end of the workout, Alex decided to try the recumbent position, an exercise that always intimidated her. Until now she had only lifted minimal weights, afraid she wouldn't be able to do it. But tonight felt... different.

She loaded the bar with the usual weight, lay under it, and put her hands in the correct positions. As she concentrated, she felt strangely calm - like her body knew what it was doing without her having to convince herself.

"Okay, just one set," she said to herself out loud. "Focus, Alex."

Just as she started to lift the weight, a familiar male voice sounded beside her:

"Do you need help?"

She looked up sharply. Daniel stood beside her, his head slightly bowed and a friendly smile on his face. Alex felt her stomach clench.

"I-" She stammered, then came to her senses. "I think I'll manage."

"Are you sure?" he asked without seeming intrusive. "I see you here a lot, but I haven't seen you on the bed. If you want, I can help you."

Alex swallowed. Part of her wanted to refuse - she was afraid of exposing herself. But another part, braver, agreed.

"Okay," she said softly.

Daniel took up position behind her, ready to catch the weight if necessary. Alex concentrated and lifted the bar. She could feel the tension in her muscles, but also a strange lightness - as if her body was responding better than usual. She finished the set with no problems.

"Look at you," Daniel said as she returned the bar to the rack. "You did great. You must be practicing seriously."

Alex blushed, but managed a smile.
"I'm trying," she replied. "But there's a lot more to do."

"We all start somewhere," he said, nodding. "And if you keep this up, the results will come."

She thanked him, and Daniel gave her another warm smile before returning to his own training. Alex stayed on the lounger for a moment, trying to process what had happened.

"He's talking to me," she thought. "And not just out of politeness. He noticed me."

That thought filled her with unexpected pride.

When he got home, Alex prepared another dose of the supplement. As he stirred the powder into the cup, he thought about what had happened in the gym.

"Maybe it's not just a placebo," she told herself. "I feel stronger, and Daniel..."

She shook her head as if to snap back to reality.

"Relax, Alex. This is just the beginning."

She drank her dose and relaxed back on the bed, feeling the tiredness but also an unusual lightness that seemed to come from the depths of her muscles. Change was slow, but she was beginning to believe it was happening.

The gym wasn't just a place to work out for Megan - it was her kingdom. With every muscle in her body sculpted by years of hard work, she commanded the attention of everyone who walked through the gym doors. Megan knew she was beautiful. She knew that men looked at her when she walked by, and that women looked at her with a little envy, but also admiration. She fed off that attention - it was like fuel for her self-esteem.

Of all the men in the room, Daniel was the one she liked best. Not just because he was athletic and handsome-that was a given-but because he was a challenge. Even though she'd slept with him a few times, she felt he wasn't fully committed to her. He was kind, even considerate, but somehow distant. It made Megan feel uneasy.

"Why does he have to act like this?" she thought to herself as she did squats in front of the mirror. "I have everything a man could want. Any other woman here would kill to be in my shoes."

That evening, while working out in one of the back areas of the gym, Megan heard Daniel's familiar voice. He was close, but not talking to her, something that immediately irritated her. She looked over her shoulder and saw him talking to Alex. The girl who, until recently, was just 'that skinny girl'. Alex was sitting on the lounger, and Daniel was talking to her with a smile. It wasn't just polite conversation - he seemed genuinely interested.

"What the hell is going on here?" thought Megan as she watched from a distance. "When did you start talking to her?"

Megan had never really paid attention to Alex. To her, this was one of the many girls in the gym who come in thinking they can make a difference but never do. Alex was always alone, dressed in wide clothes, with an invisible aura about her. But now she seemed... different. Megan couldn't pinpoint what had changed, but Alex had begun to catch her attention.

Later that night, while driving home, Megan's thoughts returned to Alex. "This doesn't make sense," she reasoned. "Daniel never talks to girls like her. What's so interesting about her to him?"

She thought of the way Alex had lifted the weight of the recliner, as if with ease. That was unusual. Until recently she had struggled with the minimal weights, and now... Now it seemed as if her body was working differently. "Is there really progress, or is this just a coincidence?" Megan shook her head, but she could feel the envy starting to sprout deep inside her.

"Some skinny girl can't outshine me," she told herself as she opened the door to her apartment. "Not me."

Alex had already noticed something strange - her appetite had increased dramatically in the last few days. Before, she often skipped meals, felt too tired or just couldn't find the time. But now it was different. She had a hearty breakfast in the morning, but only a few hours later she was hungry again. Her refrigerator always seemed to be empty, and the dishes in the sink were piling up.

"What's wrong with me?" she wondered as she devoured another helping of rice and chicken. "Maybe it's the supplement?"

She wasn't uncomfortable - on the contrary. Her body seemed to require this energy to keep up the new pace. She was also noticing how her muscles were responding better to the workouts, though the change was still subtle.

The next day, while doing a series of exercises on the back machine, Alex felt someone watching her. She looked to the side and saw Megan standing a few feet away from her. Megan's eyes pierced her - it wasn't a friendly look. It was cold, almost appraising.

Alex quickly averted her gaze, but she could feel her cheeks flaring.

"What's wrong with her?" she thought. "Did I do something wrong?"

Megan, for her part, stood still, watching Alex. "That girl is changing," she thought. "But how? What could she have done in such a short time?"

Tonight, after practice, Megan couldn't shake the thought of Alex. As she stood in front of her bathroom mirror, she examined her reflection. Her body was almost perfect - tight stomach, well shaped arms and legs, skin that looked smooth and healthy. She knew she had everything Daniel could want.

"But then why?" she wondered aloud. "What does he see in her?"

Megan couldn't help herself. She was used to being the center of attention, to being the one men wanted. The idea that Daniel might pay attention to someone like Alex made her feel insecure, a feeling that was foreign to her.

"I'll find out what's going on," she told herself as she stood up. "And I'm not going to let this girl take his attention away from me."

The next day in the hall, the atmosphere seemed more tense than usual. Megan had decided to watch Alex closely. She purposely chose a piece of equipment that was close to where Alex was working out. Daniel was also there, performing his usual exercises, but this time his gaze often lingered on Alex.

Megan noticed this and felt her blood boil. As she did her exercises, her thoughts were away from the gym. Instead, she pondered what exactly was going on.

"She's not beautiful. She doesn't have a body like mine. No confidence. Nothing. And yet... he pays attention to her. Why?" Megan couldn't answer. She'd always believed that beauty and a perfect body were enough to hold a man's interest. But now she felt threatened - by someone she considered beneath her 'league'.

As she watched Alex, Megan noticed some changes. The girl didn't look so fragile anymore. Her body was starting to take shape - her hips looked tighter, her shoulders more defined. It wasn't just a matter of good workouts. "Something's wrong," Megan thought. "This is too fast."

As Alex finished her set and headed for the stretching area, Megan decided to make a move. She walked over with a seemingly friendly smile and sat down next to her.

"Hi," Megan said, as if by accident. "I see you've been making a lot of progress lately. Making an impression."

Alex looked at her in surprise. She hadn't expected Megan, the prettiest girl in the room, to pay attention to her.

"Oh, thanks," Alex replied uncertainly. "I try."

Megan smiled slightly, but a hint of insincerity flashed in her eyes.

"What are you doing differently? Do you have a secret regimen or do you drink something special?" Megan asked, feigning interest. "I like to try new things myself."

Alex was silent for a moment, wondering if she should mention the supplement. But she felt it was too personal - something she didn't want to share just yet.

"No, it's just... I've been keeping up with my workouts and eating better," she replied unconvincingly.

Megan eyed her warily. "You're lying to me," she thought, but said nothing. Instead, she smiled even wider.

"I see," she said as she got up and headed for the next appliance. "Just keep it up. You're going to get pretty impressive soon."

Alex stayed where she was, confused. "What was that?" she wondered. "Was it just being nice, or...?"

Megan couldn't let that go. That evening, as she stood in front of the mirror at home, she thought about her conversation with Alex. "That girl is hiding something. You can't make a change like that in such a short time. Not without help."

She thought of Alex's words - about how she was eating better and following her regimen. "Brats. Either she's hiding the truth or she's just lucky. But I'm not going to let her take Daniel away from me."

Meanwhile, Daniel was also the object of her thoughts. He was her "trophy," her way of asserting her superiority. Megan knew him well enough to know that he liked her confidence, but she couldn't understand why he was suddenly interested in Alex.

The next day, Megan decided to act. While Alex was doing his exercises, Megan approached Daniel. She put her hand on his shoulder like it was the most normal thing in the world.

"Hey," she said with a slightly playful smile. "How's practice going?"

Daniel smiled politely, but not as warmly as before. "They're good, Megan. And you?"

"Fine as always," she replied, purposely standing so as to draw his attention to her perfectly shaped figure. "I see you've been helping Alex lately."

Daniel nodded. "Yes, she's making great progress. She's definitely impressive."

That was a knife to Megan's heart. "Impressive? She? What the hell?"

"Yeah, maybe," she said, trying to hide her irritation. "But she's so... new at this. Don't you think she'll get screwed over?"

Daniel looked at her, surprised by her tone. "We all start somewhere, Megan. And if someone is willing to work hard, why not encourage them?" He sounded defensive, which only increased her anger.

When Daniel moved away, Megan remained in her seat, gritting her teeth. "This isn't over," she told herself. "I'm going to find out what this girl is doing to change. And I'm going to make sure she doesn't take what's mine."

Alex woke suddenly. Her room was dark, but she could sense that something was wrong. Her body was burning, as if her temperature was too high. Her skin was damp with sweat and the sheets were stuck to her. She rose from the bed, exhausted but strangely alert. Her pulse was racing, as if she had just finished a grueling workout.

"What's wrong with me?" she whispered, putting a hand to her forehead. She had no temperature, but she could feel something inside her moving, changing.

When the lamp came on, her gaze went to the mirror at the end of the room. Alex stood, panting, and stared at her reflection. In that moment, she noticed something she had never seen on herself before - her veins. They stood out on her arms, shoulders, and even her thighs. This was not normal for her. She had never looked like this.

She spread her fingers and looked at her palms, feeling the tension in her muscles increase. It wasn't pain, but rather a strange tightening sensation, like her body was working at high speed. Alex walked over to the mirror to get a better look.

And then she saw it.

Her hands. They seemed to be starting to change before her eyes. Her biceps, which until recently had been almost imperceptible, were beginning to emerge. Her muscles were growing ever so slightly, but enough to make her gasp. Her shoulders widened just a little, but the lines of her muscles became clearer. Alex put a hand on her hip and felt a hardness that wasn't there before.

"This... this is impossible," she whispered, touching her hands.

But it wasn't just an outward change. Alex could feel her power growing. Her body was tightening, transforming. The sensation was almost... pleasurable. She felt a shiver run through her entire body, as if her muscles were awakening for the first time.

When the shift subsided, she was left sitting on the bed, exhausted but also strangely aroused. What she had felt was not only physical, but emotional as well. She felt stronger, more alive. She looked at her hands once more and noticed that they no longer looked the way they did a week ago. The muscles were tighter, more pronounced.

"What is it?" she whispered. "The protein? Is that what it's doing to me?"

Meanwhile, on the other side of town, Megan sat on her couch, phone in hand. She was scrolling through social media photos when she came across Daniel's profile. He'd posted a new photo from the gym, a picture with one of the most muscular women in the gym. It wasn't just a friendly photo. Daniel looked impressed, proud even, to be with her.

"What the hell?" muttered Megan, staring at the screen.

She continued looking at his pictures and found something that shocked her. It turned out that Daniel didn't just like muscular girls - he often worked out with them, and some of them even commented on his pictures with playful messages.

"He has a thing for girls with muscles," she realized. "And big muscles at that."

Megan leaned back and began to think. She'd always relied on her shapely body-tight, yet feminine. She had never wanted to have big muscles because she believed it wasn't attractive. But now... now she wondered if she'd made a mistake.

"Is this why she's paying attention to Alex?" she thought. 'Is he seeing potential in her because she's changing? Because her body is transforming?"

Megan felt jealousy engulf her. Alex, with her unassuming, almost imperceptible presence, was becoming a threat. She was no longer the "regular girl" in the gym. She was something more - a potential rival.

"If he wants muscle, then he'll see what real strength means," Megan whispered with icy determination. "Alex won't take what's mine away from me."

The next morning Alex woke up early. Her body was strangely rested even though the night had been full of changes. She stood in front of the bathroom mirror and examined her reflection. The change was still slight, but noticeable. Her muscles were more pronounced, and her skin looked firmer.

As she made her breakfast, she felt her appetite even stronger than before. She ate a bowl of oatmeal with a banana, but after only an hour she was hungry again. Her body seemed to require more food to maintain its new state.

"That's strange," she said aloud as she prepared herself a sandwich. "But if that's part of the change, I'll take it."

Megan, on the other hand, was determined to find out what Alex was doing. She started watching her workouts, taking an interest in her exercises and even trying to talk to some of the other exercisers to learn more. But she couldn't ignore the fact that Alex was becoming something she never expected herself - a competitor.

"I'll find out your secret," she swore. "And I'll make sure Daniel never choses you over me."

Megan was determined to find out what was behind Alex's transformation. It was no longer just a curiosity - it was a personal mission. She knew Alex wouldn't tell her the truth, so she began to proceed more cautiously.

One afternoon, while working out, she noticed Alex leaving her gym bag unattended by the lockers as she walked to the water machine. This was her chance. Megan looked around quickly - no one was looking at her. She walked over to the bag, opened it slightly, and began searching. Inside were the usual things - a towel, a spare t-shirt, headphones - but after a moment she found something that caught her attention.

A small jar with a black lid, wrapped in fancy packaging with gold ornaments. The words "Transcendence Protein - Unlock Your True Potential" caught her eye. Megan took the jar and examined it carefully. This wasn't just any ordinary supplement. She'd heard about it on some forums, a product that promised amazing results but also sounded too good to be true.

"Is that her secret?" she thought. "This supplement?"

She quickly returned the jar to the bag before Alex returned. Megan couldn't believe it. "It's not just down to training and eating," she realized. "She's using something that's changing her inside."

Megan vowed to herself to research the product to find out more. But inside she already knew - if Alex was using this, then she might as well. And she wasn't going to let Alex have the advantage.

That evening Alex was at the gym finishing her workout when Daniel approached her. He wore a casual smile that always made her heart skip a beat.

"Hey, Alex," he began. "I gotta tell you, you've been making great progress lately."

She smiled, trying to hide how flattered she felt. "Thanks. I'm trying."

"Not just trying," he continued. "You're really impressive. I notice it every time you practice."

Alex felt her cheeks flush. It was something she never expected to hear from him. She barely had time to respond. "Oh, thanks... that means a lot."

Daniel was silent for a moment, as if hesitating about his next sentence. Then he smiled even wider. "Listen, I was thinking... if you're free tomorrow night, I'd like to invite you over for dinner. Let's just go out, talk."

Alex gaped in surprise. "To dinner?"

"Yeah," he confirmed. "Something casual. If you want, of course."

She nearly knocked over the water bottle she was holding. "Is this really happening?" she thought. "He's asking me out!"

"Yes, of course!" she replied quickly, before he could change his mind. "Sounds great."

"Great," he said with a smile. "I'll text you where and when." Then he winked at her and headed to another part of the hall.

Alex remained motionless in her seat, trying to process what had happened. "Daniel... Daniel asked me out. How... how is that possible?"

Megan, who had been watching the scene from a distance, could barely hide her fury. "He asked her out?" Her thoughts raced as she watched Alex beaming with happiness.

"It won't stay like this," she told herself. "If she thinks she's going to win him over, she's very wrong."

A plan was already forming in her mind. Megan was determined to get Daniel's attention back and put Alex in her place.

Awesome. Love a good romantic-rivals-competing-in-muscle-growth story.

I'm liking the start of this one. Please continue!

Jaguar

This is a really excellent start.  The characters are well defined, the plot is great, I'm loving it!
* You are the author and you are the boss of your story!
* Take your time and write what you are driven to write and what your characters drive you to write.
* The story is the journey, and when the journey is over, we will all wish it was longer.

phil123

Great start and she is growing slowly. Do you include some statistics?
