Ina closed the heavy wooden door and looked out over the valley below, her breath turning to wisps of fog in the early morning chill. The mountains seemed even larger in the dawn, their sharp, snowy peaks turning soft and blue under the first light. She tightened her coat around her shoulders, knowing that the day would hold a long list of chores. The farm was quiet, her mother was still sleeping in the room upstairs, and the silence was peaceful. It was a small moment to herself before the day began, and she savored it.

Her mother's illness had worsened the winter of her final year of Upper Secondary School. Since then, Ina has taken over the work every morning. She had learned how to milk the goats, feed the chickens, and carry wood up from the shed without waking her mother. Her hands were no longer the hands of a girl; they were rough and strong, scarred from farm work and constant chores. But she had grown used to it, even took a little pride in it, though no one else seemed to notice.

When she finished her chores she entered the house for her breakfast. A steamy bowl of oatmeal and hardy strips of bacon were already set on the table.

"Mom," she breathed. "You shouldn't have. You need to be in bed."

"I feel a little better today, Sweetie. Let me do something when I feel up to it."

She looked at her mom warily and there was a little color in the older woman's cheeks. It's a good day, she thought. "Mom, be careful not to overdo it. I don't know why you just let me drop out of school and..."

"I won't hear of it. I won't be why you don't earn a trade, Ina."

"Fine," Ina said, sitting and quickly eating her meal before departing for school. Ina was pretty, but it was hard to work through the grime to notice it. Her blue eyes and blonde hair had turned head in her early teens, but she no longer cared about makeup and looking pretty. Getting through was the name of the game.

When she arrived at school in the village, things were different. She looked out of place, with her worn skirts and patched sweater, thick glasses perched on her nose. It didn't matter that they were her father's—she needed them to see the blackboard. She often heard the boys laughing behind her back, and the girls made a game of gossiping in whispers just loud enough for her to hear. It was the classic case of how the mighty had fallen. She was the one being noticed in lower secondary but now she would have faded into the woodwork if it hadn't been for their teasing. She felt their eyes on her when she walked into the room, like needles pricking her skin, and she would sit quickly, pretending not to notice.

There was one boy, though, who seemed to go out of his way to make her life harder. Frederick. Tall, confident, with dark hair that fell just so over his forehead, he had the kind of charm the other girls blushed and giggled over. He was quick-witted, too. He was always the first to have a clever retort or a cutting joke, especially if Ina happened to be nearby. This morning, he waited for her at the school's gate, leaning against it with that familiar smirk.

"Well, look who finally came down from her mountain," he said, loud enough for the other boys nearby to hear. "Did you have to wrestle a bear to get here, Ina?"

The other boys snickered, their laughter rolling across the empty schoolyard.

Ina felt her cheeks redden, but she kept her head high. "Good morning, Frederick," she replied.
Frederick's smirk faded for a split second as he watched her walk by, her chin lifted as if she hadn't heard him. It made something in him twist, though he wasn't sure what. He told himself it was annoyance—that was easier to accept than the strange fascination he felt every time he saw her. It was ridiculous, he knew, but there was something about her quiet defiance and physicality that he couldn't shake. Still, he laughed with the other boys, keeping his gaze on her as she walked up the steps to the school.

Inside, Ina found her usual seat at the back of the classroom, her fingers curled tightly around the strap of her bag. She glanced at the chalkboard, already half-covered in arithmetic equations she knew she would struggle with later. But she didn't let herself think about that now; instead, she opened her notebook, willing herself to focus.

The teacher's voice droned on, and she took notes quietly, her head bowed over her notebook. She could hear the faint whispers of the other students nearby and could feel their glances, but she kept her focus sharp. She had learned that if she pretended not to hear they'd eventually tire of their jokes.
The morning passed slowly. By lunchtime, Ina was relieved to escape to the small field behind the school, where she usually ate alone. She took out her sandwich—a simple slice of bread with a bit of butter and cheese—and leaned against the trunk of an old pine, letting the sun warm her face. She closed her eyes and let the sounds of the village drift around her: the birds chattering in the trees, the distant clanging of cowbells.

"Ina!"

She startled at the voice, opening her eyes. Frederick stood there, his arms crossed, his gaze fixed on her with that look of barely concealed amusement.

"Do you really eat out here by yourself every day?" he asked, tilting his head.

Ina blinked, confused. She hadn't seen him approach. "Yes. It's quieter," she said, tucking her sandwich back into her lap.

Frederick laughed softly. "Of course. You're always so... mysterious. What do you even do up there on that mountain?"

Ina held his gaze for a moment, searching for the right words. "I take care of things," she said finally. "The farm, the animals... and my mother."

Or a moment he seemed to waiver but his familiar smirk soonreturned. "Sounds... fascinating. You must be stronger than you look."

His words stung, but she refused to let him see it. "It's a lot of work, but it has to be done."

He studied her for a moment, his expression unreadable. She expected another taunt, but instead, he just nodded. For a brief second, she thought she saw something like respect in his eyes, but it was gone before she could be sure.

"See you back in class," he said as he turned and walked back toward the school, leaving her to wonder at the strange glimmer she had seen in his face.

As she finished her lunch alone, she felt a faint tremor of unease—and, for the first time, a flicker of something else. Something almost like want.

Get a grip on yourself, Ina. He tortures you daily and you have no time for him even if he were interested.

The next afternoon, the students were released early for a half-day. Some of the boys gathered near the schoolyard fence, roughhousing and showing off, while the girls chatted nearby. Ina was already walking back to the farm when Frederick's voice called out.

"Ina!" he shouted, catching up to her. He had that same unreadable look in his eye, almost curious. "You seem like you might be uh... strong from all that farm work. Care to prove it?"
She raised an eyebrow, unsure if he was joking or serious. "Prove it?"

He grinned, holding out his arm. "Arm wrestle. Here and now. Unless you're afraid."

Ina glanced at the crowd of students who were already starting to gather, whispering with excitement. She felt her face warm but shrugged, determined not to show any hesitation. "Fine," she said, setting her bag down on the ground.

Frederick found a nearby tree stump and brushed off the top, motioning for her to sit across from him. He rolled up his sleeve, exposing his tanned forearm, lean and well-muscled from all his sports. "Ready for this?" he teased.

Ina rolled up her sleeve, revealing her own arm—slimmer than his, but wiry strong from years of carrying heavy buckets and lifting feed. She placed her elbow on the stump, her hand meeting his, and they locked grips. She noticed the boys leaning in, already smirking, sure of Frederick's easy win.
"On three," he said. "One... two... three!"

Their arms tensed as they pushed against each other's grip, each trying to gain the advantage. Frederick's expression turned from amused to focused as he realized Ina wasn't immediately collapsing. He dug his heels in, his arm shaking slightly as he pushed harder. But Ina held firm.
Her muscles flexed under the strain, her bicep swelling with the effort. She felt the burn in her forearm, biceps, and shoulder but pushed through it. Her grip was like iron. She could see the surprise in his eyes, and it made her push harder. She didn't want to lose. Not today.

Around them, the boys' laughter faded into silence and even the girls had stopped talking. Frederick was frowning now, his jaw set, his knuckles white with the effort. Ina could see the strain in his face, the slight tremble in his hand, and knew that he wasn't throwing the match. He was struggling now.

Straining, bulging, thrusting– the muscles that she hardly knew she'd built came to life with tremendous force pushing the bigger man's arm ever downward. Just when she thought she might actually win, Frederick seemed to tug with all of his might. Their hands quickly pulled back to the middle. His breath was ragged and his face flushed but urgency seemed to press him on. After a few more tense seconds, he grunted as he forced her arm down just enough to claim victory.

Frederick wiped his brow and let out a breathless laugh. "Not bad," he said, letting go of her hand, his voice a little shakier than usual. He was trying to mask his surprise, but the admiration in his eyes was unmistakable. He rubbed his arm, almost as if he was nursing a slight ache. "You're stronger than you look."

"Thanks," she murmured back. Ina was annoyed that she'd lost but also felt some pride in holding one of the most athletic kids in the school at bay for so long. She noticed Frederick was avoiding her gaze. His face was also a shade redder than she'd ever seen it. There was something else there, too, a strange awkwardness that seemed so out of place on his usually confident face.

"You'll need a little more milk if you're planning to beat me," he added with a half-smile, half teasing, half respectful. A hint of a smile played at his lips as he let her hand go, flexing his fingers and looking at his hand..

As he stood and turned to walk away, his gaze lingered just a moment longer than usual, giving her a once-over that felt different than usual. He stood and turned away but Ina would have been blind if she hadn't noticed the arousal in his pants. Without another word, Frederick joined his friends, leaving her standing there, her heart racing and cheeks warm.

Ina arrived home as the sun began to dip behind the mountain. The house lay quiet with only the faint sound of her mother's soft breathing behind her window. Ina crept in quietly and grabbed her gloves before going back outside and getting to work.

She first checked on the goats, giving them fresh water and checking their pens. Next, she went to the barn to gather the eggs and make sure the chickens had enough feed. The evening was her favorite time to work. The air was cooler, the sky painted in hues of pink and purple, and the sounds of the mountain echoed all around her.

As she finished feeding the animals, she noticed that one of the younger cows, a small black-and-white, was missing. Her heart skipped a beat. Munch was Ina's favorite. She was always curious so it wasn't unusual for her to wander off, but this time, something felt different. Ina quickly grabbed the lantern from the barn and set off across the fields to find her.

Ina found Munch amongst a small grove of trees, nibbling on something strange. As Ina approached, she saw the small mushrooms scattered around the calf's feet—vibrant purple with a peculiar glow. Her stomach twisted in concern.

"Munch!" Ina called softly, trying not to startle the young cow. "What are you eating, girl?"

The calf lifted its head, its eyes glassy and unfocused. Ina frowned. She knew the mushrooms were not safe for cows; they could cause dizziness and disorientation. She quickly stepped forward and guided Munch away from the mushrooms, her hand gently grazing the calf's side.

Carefully, she led Munch back toward the barn, where she could keep an eye on her and make sure she didn't get worse. Ina deemed Munch as drowsy, but stable—and felt a small sense of relief.
After securing Munch in the barn with a little more hay and fresh water, Ina went to work milking the other two cows. She milled about the routine motions, preparing the milk pail, and within moments, the rhythmic sound of the milk hitting the bottom of the bucket filled the space. The calmness of the task soothed her. She let her mind drift back to the arm-wrestling match from that afternoon with Frederick. It was hard to think of much else. Frederick was a pain in the ass, but she knew she had feelings for him. She looked at her reflection in the cow's water in between milking.

"I'm going to have to try harder," she said, twisting her finger in her blonde hair. It looked closer to the straw strewn in the barn rather than the golden luster of her youth. She replayed Frederick's expression when she almost beat him. She could still see his surprise, the way his eyebrows had furrowed when she didn't back down.

Ina paused for a moment, her hand on the pail, and flexed her arm, admiring the muscles there. It wasn't much, but she could see the definition—the strength that came from long days of hard work. She hadn't thought about it much before, but today it felt different. Frederick's teasing about milk lingered in her mind, and she felt a small blush creep onto her cheeks.

She was milking Munch, the last of the evening. Without thinking, she took a deep breath, then a long swig of the warm milk. She felt the rich, creamy liquid slide down her throat. The taste was richer, almost unusual, and a gentle warmth bloomed within her. It felt good. She took another sip, then another, each one deepening the soothing heat that traveled through her limbs and settled in her core

Her insides churned and arousal engulfed her. The sensation intensified, filling her with a surprising rush that left her almost breathless. Her muscles tingled with an unfamiliar power and her skin felt electric to the touch. She glanced down at her arm, flexing it experimentally. Her head had to be swimming because it looked like the strength she had gained from her daily chores had instantly become visible.

More milk, he had said. Her body pulsed with energy, every fiber alive and buzzing, and she closed her eyes, breathing deeply, letting herself fully feel the pride and thrill of her strength.

She took one more long gulp of milk, feeling its warmth suffuse her, a comforting, powerful sensation that seemed to spread into every muscle and tendon.

More.

Nice start of your story. You have a great "voice" and a good descriptive style.  Let's see where the story goes from here.
