Are more and more girls growing visible biceps?

A lot of girls have that fear of lifting weights and getting big muscles. They don't realize it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to get muscles like that. Like one of my friends for example. She went through this fear of getting big muscles stage. Now she's at the gym at least 3-4 times a week. She's not looking to pack on huge muscles, but she's trying to build herself an athletic body. has some noticeable definition and gains throughout her body and she's proud of herself instead of being disgusted.

What I'm trying to get at is, I think more girls are starting to realize they can shape their bodies how they want without getting "gross"  huge muscles.

This is pretty well spot-on. Lifting weights alone isn't going to give anyone big muscles unless they're so genetically gifted that their muscles grow no matter what they do. It takes lifting, diet and supplements to get "huge" for just about everyone. Plus, the longer you lift, the more difficult it becomes to continue growing bigger.

Also, I saw earlier in the thread that there are a lot of "plus-size" gals flexing big arms... that doesn't necessarily qualify as having big biceps.

No doubt times are a changin. But I'm not certain in which direction  ???
To share my observations here in the UK.
In the 70's and early 80's , girls didn't weight train as we know (unfeminine), but there were a few naturally muscular biceps around, and women used to say "I have big muscles... My arm muscles are big.... " and look very worried at you expecting a negative reaction. Flexing them was almost unheard of, so you had to wait to catch a glimpse, ort do as I did and be un gentlemanly and hand them a heavy box to test their power and catch a glimpse of working muscle!

But sitting in a coffee shop over the last couple of years in particular, it is not uncommon to hear girlfriends talking enthusiastically about their friend who has toned arms and biceps ( yes, girls know what their actual muscles are called now, not just FBB's!) and how they would like to get bigger biceps. The boyfriends still seem muted, and thoughtful before a cautious response which is mildly positive and supportive. That's here in the UK, driven by such figures as Jody Marsh, and also Mel C andf the other Spices who every now and again get toned.

Visiting New York, it was not uncommon for me  to see boyfriends encouraging their girl friends to arm wrestle and flex etc, so the US are far more accepting it would appear to me. I only visited for 4 days recently, and was not doing anything special to seek out female flexing!

Having said all that, I am not aware in my corner of the UK, that there is more femuscle around than there was in the 80's and 90's, in fact, it is more common to see over weight women these days, something that has to be reversed before the diabetes explosion finally hits home big time.

Maybe those in the UK who live in the cities ( I'm a small town lad ) could comment on whether they see more or less British Femuscle in this century!

I would say YES because there is an international fitness trend within all developed economies ;) Training is more and more hip and trendy for Girls  :)

jmcv - it is my belief (and hope) too! I do not think I've seen so many "average" girls with visible and strong looking biceps as in this summer. Muscles seem to be very trendy among girls...

My dream is coming to a college and noticing that all girls looked like fitness and figure girls, with visible biceps, and that muscular had become the common look among girls :)

Awesome dream.  Too bad there are so many lazy chicks out there that just don't give a hoot about getting in shape.

It would be great if the "freshmen 15" was 15 pounds of muscle. For both guys and gals.  ;D

Hell YES! That would be awesome... looking back, I wish I'd traded off some of my drinking-time for lifting-time!  The term "freshmen 15" could have applied to my biceps, not my bodyweight! lol

Thankfully I never went to an out of stage college.  When I started to go to a community college
I took weight training (didn't know what I was doing at the time nor did I know about diet).
The soccer girls were the best than.
I just had a great idea for a story... about a girl (or girls) who go away to college totally skinny and weak, but they get introduced to weights and by the end of their freshman year, they're the object of desire of all the boys on campus because they're flexing big, sexy 15" biceps... the title could (obviously) be "Freshman 15"

That would be a great story!

It would be great if weightlifting had become so common that ALL the girls had a more muscular fitness body. Maybee after discovering that the guys on campus liked muscles on girls. And this spread across the country with the result that it was built more gyms for girls, more magazines for girls who work out were started, and that clothing companies had to adjust their sizes because the girls biceps began to be so large.
