I just recalled a funny reference story. A well-known fbb was traveling to my city. It was one of those periods where I wasn't that active. A couple of my longtime ladies, who would have given me references, retired. But, in the previous 18 months or so, I sessioned with this famous, mature fbb three times. She knew me, we had a great time, but she didn't live in my city and I only saw her when I traveled. She always came to my hotel, never asked for deposits or references.

So I politely emailed this mature fbb to see if she could give me a reference. Her response was something like this: "Absolutely not! That's B.S. Love these girls who want me to do their work for them!" She wasn't angry I asked, just that she was getting so many reference requests. Never had the sesson with the other fbb. But... a few months later I saw my mature fbb again and, as always, we had a great time so it all worked out.

As clients, we all have different perceptions of risk and do what we think is necessary to preserve our anonymity and security.  Many session providers—those who have a public presence outside of sessions—don't have that luxury.  Perhaps references aren't a perfect solution, but it's one measure they can take for their own comfort and safety.  If their requirements are more than you're comfortable with, then decline and move on.  Be assured that many of them do compare notes, but the ones that do also have reputations to preserve and are less likely to be a threat to their clients.

Yeah it doesn't really surprise me you got that response. It's something I thought of as well, that some women might be tired of being asked for references as they just get a lot of messages, period.

FWIW, everytime I've been asked for a reference, I've just referred to other sessionites SG profiles. I think in most cases, they may not have even followed through by contacting the reference. As far as i can remember, I've only gotten 1 or 2 confirmed cases where my reference was actually contacted.

Of course I don't know who that is, but I could take a guess. If it is not her, I can see her saying something like that.

I totally agree. It's up to them to follow up, the problem is as what I stated above they probably will not and moving forward more and more people will probably want to ask for IDs, pictures, or LinkedIn profiles, which would lead to something that's more unacceptable .

Again if references are not good enough of a background check along with a deposit, then I am not interested in sessioning with her. I mean I have several current sessioniates who are "references" for me including two I been seeing for over ten years (one it's over twenty years). If that isn't enough for a sessionate, I don't know what else to tell you.

And yes totally agree it's on them to do the legwork once I supply the references just like it would be on a job application. And for what it's worth, my experience has been they don't even follow up with references. Just having a couple references has been sufficient particularly if it's a name if someone they significantly respect.

And for that i will always be thankful for Robin and Nancy Novak on top of so many other things I am thankful for them to. Because back in the day anytime I mentioned i was clients of theirs, the sessioniate who I was trying to see for the first time was even more interested in taking me on. They were like a black AMEX card. Excepted anywhere at any time lol

For seasoning with someone else but like I said she was very apologetic and said there was no reason for her to act like that.

It's always a good strategy to check with the woman who you are asking to give a reference to see if she will do it. She has the option to say no.

I once contacted a session provider about a reference  and she didn't respond. I wrote her again after a few days saying I understood that she didn't want to do it, she had no obligation to. She wrote back a few days later to say she would be fine giving the reference, it's just that her session phone was turned off while she was on hiatus.

Excellent advice. Whenever I was asked for a reference, and it was only two or three times, I'd check first to see if the lady was willing to do it.

I completely agree. While I have a passion for sessioning with these uniquely powerful and gorgeous women, and they need to know that new clients are not flakes or axe murderers, a couple of references and a deposit is as far as I would go. I'm not sending my personal info to a complete stranger.
