  • Wow.....hugs to all you guys.  You all bless me with your kindness.

My husband Bill & I went on a surfing trip for my birthday.  There was a huge swell predicted for that very day.  Got there several days early and I broke the knuckle off the 5th finger of my left hand with the paddle while surfing.  (It just whipped back and ...BAM  broken hand).  Rather than get an xray I iced it and taped it up ( in that if I saw the break I'd probably not surf on my birthday.)

The hand: knuckle tilted off to the right....completely broken off.

One of the waves I got on my 70th birthday broken hand and all.   Two Motrin and lots of grey duct tape on the hand

...and the neat cake the guys that surf there made for me.... Surfer Barbie chick riding a wave ski !!!.( note the ice bottle aced to the hand)

I am a VERY happy gal to be 70 .....to surf...to have such wonderful friends.

    Love to you all !

All these ...with a broken knuckle.   Without all the years of my lifting and activity in the water...this wonderful 70th birthday would not have been possible

  • Well God bless you Almorae !  I sure do appreciate your kindness.  I think every woman when she reaches 70 has this melt-down.  Youth is over.  Beauty gone.  The only hill ahead is down.  I am blessed to have you all here as my cheerleaders.  It's helpful to me personally as I age...and now approach the end of life.   As well, staying active as I do, lifting and hanging around youth out surfing does keep my mind off being 70 quite a bit.  All of us women  (but men as well)  need to keep ourselves active mentally and physically, around young folk, and thinking positive regarding life and the enjoyment of our days as we approach old age.  I think as well...being "others-centered" helps.  Bodybuilding can be ( is) a very egocentric sport.  The shift to thinking about others possibly more than even yourself is therapeutic.  If we fail in all this, 70 might very well  get us down !
    Hugs
    Alison
( It's a grey wig)           ( Brown wig.  My other persona.  The deer caught in the headlights look)  Photos a few months ago....

BTW:  The hand is doing real well. No cast, using the fingers and hand, mopping the floors.  I'll be surfing in no time flat...God willing.
