Chapter 2: "She's Got Rocks"


Frank came into the break room and started filling his coffee cup. "Morning,
Frank." Jim and Tony, two cops that had been on the force for awhile were
hunched over cups of coffee and donuts. "Morning," Frank muttered. "Hey, you
met the new girl yet?" Tony asked. "She's hotter 'n Hell." "Who, Tina? Yeah, I
met her. Matter of fact, I'm gonna beat the crap out of her tomorrow night,"
Frank told them. They both looked at him with strange expressions. "What?"
Frank said, irritably. "You got a problem with that? Beating on a girl? She's
on the force, isn't she? Got to learn to fight, just like the rest of us."
"Uh, Frank. You sure about this...you seen her fight?"

"Yeah, man...she's got rocks."

The latter was Jim speaking. Frank, spilling his coffee, wheeled about. What
the hell were they talking about? He had never heard either of these men
talking like such wimps. "What the hell are you talking about?!" Frank
demanded. Jim shrugged his shoulders. "She sparred with Mike yesterday. Beat
him pretty bad. Knocked him out, I guess..." he trailed off, sounding
uncertain of the information he was imparting. Knocked Mike out? Frank
couldn't believe what he was hearing. Mike was the staff champion, every year.
Couple of years ago, in a sparring match, he had beaten Frank so badly that he
had to take days off to recuperate. Mike was big, fast and mean. Nobody on the
force had ever beaten him in the ring, that Frank could remember. "That's
right, she knocked him out. With one punch, too." The door had opened, and
Bev, a female officer, was standing there, holding a disk in one hand. "Want
to see the video?" "There's a video?" Jim leaped up, knocking over his chair.
"This I got to see for myself." The men all followed Bev into the next room.
She slid in the disk, and hit "play." "Yeah, Phil videoed it," she told them.
Frank raised his eyebrows. Phil was the captain, his boss. Phil was supposed
to meet with him soon, to tell him who his new partner would be. Why was Phil
videotaping sparring matches?

As the video started to play, Mike appeared, in the ring, wearing boxing
shorts, flexing his muscles, weighing in. The scale balanced at 178. Mike was
heavily built. he took several jabs at the air, and danced around the ring.

Meanwhile, from the corner, a shadowy shape emerged. Gradually, Frank
recognized it as Tina. As she came into focus, though, he involuntarily took
in a sharp breath, as he saw her body for the first time. She was wearing a
black, sleeveless top that ended just below her ribs, revealing 6 inches of
her bare midriff. Stomach muscles stood out in sharp washboard ridges that
looked rock-hard. Nowhere was there any remote sign of fat or flab. She walked
with a graceful, athletic self-confidence that was both awe-inspiring and
incredibly sexy. Her arms, swinging lightly at her sides, bulged with
chiseled, stone-hard muscle. Her biceps stood out in frighteningly distinct,
hard ridges under the ceiling lights. Her shoulders were molded, as if out of
marble. Mike glanced up, saw her, and started visibly, then tried to shake it
off, pretend it hadn't happened. But Tina saw, and, smiling at him, flexed her
bicep. Mike looked down. Tina stepped on the scale, the ref balaced it, and
then intoned "127."

Seconds later, the fight started. As they moved slowly toward each other,
Frank found himself replaying his bout with Mike in his mind. He had closed in
on Mike, just like that, hit him with a series of sharp jabs, then wheeled to
deliver a hook, but got surprised by Mike's fast left uppercut, which hit him
in the gut, doubled him over, and all but ended the fight. Mike finished him
with a 3-shot sequence to the jaw.

As Frank came back to the present, his vision settled on Tina's hard, muscular
back in the forehround of the TV screen. Muscles rippled across her
shoulderblade as she hit Mike with a jab to the gut. He reciprocated with one
to hers, and was surprised to find that it had no effect. Mike came back with
a quick sequence to her stomach, and Tina responded by lifting her arms up
high, leaving herself ridiculously wide open. Mike took the bait, plunging at
her and putting all of his energy into a right- fisted shot to her stomach.

As he hit her, Tina turned toward the camera and flexed her biceps hard. At
the same time, a weird-sounding yelp was heard, and Mike drew back, an
expression of pain on his face, clutching his right arm at the elbow.

Tina closed on him quickly, and hit him with a sharp uppercut on the jaw. As
Mike's head snapped back and his body crumpled, Bev leaped up to rewind the
tape. "Want to see that one again, boys?" No one said anything as she geefully
replayed the punch again. As Mike collapsed to the floor, Tina brought her
fists over her head and flexed again.

Frank couldn't bring himself to look up. His fight with Tina was scheduled for
two weeks hence. And now, he knew that they knew that he knew that he was
going to be humiliated - and probably beaten rather badly - by a 19- year-old
girl.
