Totally uneducated opinion, I agree.  The training year is chopped into four chunks: 4 months, 2 months, 4 months, 2 months: Gain/Cut/Gain/Cut.  Photos are taken at any time but mainly at the end of cutting cycles - fans (who admire and understand the entire process) appreciate the athlete throughout the full year.  Those who do not, expect the athlete to look as if they are competition ready all the time and they are pandering to certain tastes.  This is ignorance so the word 'uneducated' would be the right one.  The string-bean US female fitness and figure athletes look emaciated a lot of the time.  This is to garner photo contracts as often as possible as they make money from it.  They are also chasing the judging guidelines set by the majority of federations there.  It's more commercial in the US so judging guidelines have more influence over athlete preferences.  Brasil is less susceptible to this commercialisation and have categories that celebrate (for lack of a better word) muscle volume and shape, lower body training, the enhancement of natural female attributes etc.

What was the female muscle scene like in Brazil before the start of wellness? Were there many girls who were aspiring bodybuilders that switched to wellness, or were they always into wellness, or were there more bodybuilders first, but then those disappeared and wellness took place. What I see in Brazilian girls is lower body is king.  I have yet to see a Brazilian chick with 70 cm+ thighs (muscle, not 20%+ bodyfat). According to how informed am I, I see that bodybuilding is not that popular there. The only one that seems to be really huge from there is Renne Toney. I don't think any girl in Brazil wants muscles as her.
