Melissa Coates passed away today, June 23, 2021. She had just turned 50 a few days You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login official cause of death reported yet, but she recently had her left leg amputated, due to arteries supplying blood to her left lower leg were completely obstructed by blood clots. May she Rest In Peace.

I never had the pleasure of meeting her, but how she went off the rails with all of her various plastic surgeries is mind-boggling . . . if the IFBB could have somehow made a woman like her or Erica Kern the face of women's bodybuilding, the sport might today be something other than a fringe societal oddity. A damned shame and gone far too soon.

I knew her, we met several times for around a decade, from 2003 or '04 until maybe '14 or so, and spoke with her on the phone a few times. We were not friends, just business associates. We got along fine and understood each other. She was knocked for her plastic surgery, got bad reviews, I always thought that no matter the "version," Melissa was strong and gorgeous. Gone too soon. R.I.P.
