Perhaps more of a performance artist than a bodybuilder and definitely not the first as many outside the sport erroneously claim, she did in her collaborations with famed photographers like Robert Mapplethorpe & Helmut Newton raise awareness of a different kind of female physique in the 1980's.


 


She was the inspiration for Frank Miller's deadly assassin Elektra.

I just found out that Lisa Lyon is suffering from pancreatic cancer and has entered hospice care in grave condition. So sad. Here's a couple of pictures I'm sharing as a tribute to her.

I mentioned earlier in the week that Lisa Lyon had entered hospice care. She died today (09-08-2023) from stomach cancer at age 70. May she rest in peace.

It was Steve Wennerstrom who first sent me a letter (yes, that long ago) describing her appearance at a BB show.  She made an impression on many at that time.  Steve also said that while she was a student at UCLA, Jack Nicholson had her picked up by a limo so that she could stay at his home over weekends.

Just read about this . . . and on the heels of learning about Shari Venturi-Mohring.    I first became aware of my attraction to strong women when I was a year out of high school in 1973.  I came down to breakfast and there in the NY Times Arts and Entertainment section were pictures of this muscular woman.  By the standards of the time, I'd never seen anything like it, but was immediately attracted to it.  So sad to hear she's gone.
