 But how is any of this even possible?”  “You’ve heard of Atlantis, right?” “Yes, but what-“ “Well it’s real.  Or was, given that it fell over ten thousand years ago.  The point is, it was the pinnacle of civilization, more advanced than anything built on Earth before or since in every way.  Including in the field of genetic engineering, which, combined with its society being heavily matriarchal, eventually lead to the idea of enhancing the female nobility into giant superwomen.  To prevent any one noblewoman from becoming too powerful, it was decided that, in order to rise above a certain level, they would be modified to need semen from certain, less-enhanced men known as Donors, and that a noblewoman’s body would get diminishing returns from using one Donor repeatedly.  So the nobles started trading Donors as part of business transactions and political agreements.  When the Downfall happened-there are multiple contradictory accounts as to what caused it-some nobles and Donors escaped.  We’re not really sure if Atlanteans qualified as completely human, but they were human enough to interbreed with outsiders, resulting in entire lineages of Donors and women with the same enhancements as the nobility. Normal women impregnated by Donors, on the other hand, gave birth to mostly normal children, but with the Donor enhancements still dormant in their genes, and able to express themselves in a small percentage of their descendants.  This was long enough ago that there probably aren’t too many people on the planet without that in them, so despite its rarity it can happen anywhere.  The lineages of enhanced women are mostly still around, and that’s how I was born.  Obviously, you’re a Donor.”
