Comparison: Bodybuilding Champion - Figure Champion.

It's true that Nicole Wilkins has been adding mass in the past two years, making her shoulders enormous (just look at her casual flexing-in-front-of-the-mirror pictures; she's become more muscular tan ever), and almost 20 years have passed between those pictures,  the comparison is still stunning. And this isn't N.W.'s at her biggest:

It's true that Figure/Figure competitors are the Bodybuilding athetes from the past,  but it's anyway amazing...

In the days of Cory, everything was amazing. There was no figure, fitness, bikini, physique, it was much simpler. Every contest, an even more amazing new athlete appeared, or an existing one entered more massive or more ripped. The judges changed the criteria as often as the weather changed outside. It is far less interesting today, although the new WPD contests have rekindled some of the excitement, as judges are slowly slipping in more muscular winners, so WPD does remind me a bit of those jaw dropping early days of  FBB.

It is over 20 years since Cory looked like that, and she looked more muscular in some or her pics as well, due to the changing judging criteria.

Interesting comparison, but the reason Figure was introduced, and all the other categories we have today, is for athletes like Nicole who don't want to get as big as today's ladies. It is a shame Figure contests only consist of endless rotating instead of some hard core flexing, then we might see how Nicole really stacks up against an fbb from a bygone era.

Interesting topic, I often wish time machines would be invented, so we could have an all time greatest pose down of the best athletes of all ages and divisions. The most muscular pose would be compulsary, of course!

Wasn't Figure introduced because a lot of the ladies didn't want to do the fitness routines in the Fitness division?  I remember when Monica Brant won the Fitness O.  She had to do a lot to learn more tumbling moves.  It is sad the first 2 divisions for women are the ones that look like they are getting pushed out.

I dunno, Fitness for me is like Boxing Chess: two things combined into one strange disci-port. Is it about the moves, or about the body? Why do so many Fitness competitor look as muscular as the Figure ones?

And Bikini...well, it's obvious that the contestants train a lot and have good muscle tone, but instead of an soft-level bodybuilder, I can't help seeing  an emaciated athlete with obvious silicone implants.

Physique is still trying to find its place, it seems, since some of its competitors look 100% like Bodybuilders, and some are Figure women flexing...for me, it should lay mostly not in the mass, but in the proportions: Physique/Figure should merge and present a more hourglass shape, with hips showing and good muscle development, resulting in a curvy solid body, while Bodybuilding should be going all out and " let's see how much you can stretch your skin", with emphasys on a full V-shaped body.

Just my humble two cents.

Yes, reiner76, you are right. Fact is, both were introduced as a result of declining FBB numbers. Fitness first in the mid 90's. Then Fitness numbers dwindled, so Figure was introduced early this century.
Both ultimately introduced due to dwindling FBB interest. But we have had Figure athletes move to FBB in the past, and now with Physique supporting both FBB and Figure, a great transition of athletes between the classes.
I guess Fitness is the odd one, introduced to create interest in the women's division, then itself under attack so Figure, then Bikini introduced. I note it is not uncommon to see fitness not included in a competition, but Figure and Bikini are included on their own. I don't hear anyone campaigning to keep Fitness contests, though.
