FFX- Yuna's story
by stmercy2020

1.

Yuna was out-of-sorts.  She didn't exactly know why, but it was probably part and parcel with Tidus's impending anniversary.  It had been seven years since Tidus had... died?  Been deleted?  Wherever the strange place dreams went when

the sleeper woke up, that was where Tidus had gone.  Two years later, unable to just let it lie, she and her friends had somehow managed- she still didn't understand how- to give her memory of him substance.  At the time, she'd

thought it was a gift, a piece of eternal happiness granted for her successful defense of Spira and all of her people.  Five years later, she wasn't so sure.

Five years could be a long time when you were young and finally learning your place in the world.  Yuna had served the people of Spira all her life, first as a summoner, then, later, as a sphere hunter.  When Tidus had been given

back to her, she'd thought that, finally, she was being given something that was just for her.  It hadn't worked out that way, of course- Tidus was still everything she remembered: confident, headstrong, uncompromising, and, at the

same time, funny and just a bit childish.  That was the problem.  As a friend, those qualities were fascinating; as a lover, though, they were often more annoying than anything else.

She snorted.  It was probably just as well that he'd left her behind here in Bevelle while he'd gone to Besaid to visit Wakka and Lulu and little Vidina- was he really four-years-old already?

"Yuna?" Paine asked, shaking her out of her introversion, "all this talk about trade-borders and potential incidents boring you?"  Yuna smiled self-consciously.  How could the woman do that?

"Sorry," Yuna grimaced.

"You were miles away.  What's up?"

The former summoner shook her head and Paine had the good grace to let it go.  It had been quite a surprise to discover that the formidable warrior woman was so effective a politician; she now represented Besaid and Kilika on the

council.  Rikku had taken the vacant Bikanel seat, finally giving the Al Bhed a voice in Spiran politics, while Yuna had, somewhat by default, she felt, taken over the church of New Yevon from Baralai when the public had declared him

unfit for leadership after the Vegnagun fiasco.

Rikku yawned loudly, earning an annoyed glance from Mevyn Nooj.  He sighed.  "Perhaps we need a recess," he suggested.  Paine seconded and, like that, the three girls were released for the remainder of the day.

Rikku joined Paine and Yuna and the girls slipped away into the crowd to a favorite café.  "So, cuz- give!" Rikku demanded as Paine went to acquire drinks, "what's eating you?"

Unlike Paine, Rikku wouldn't just let it go.  Yuna tried to formulate an answer, had even opened her mouth to speak, when a boy rushed up to their table.  "Lady Yuna?" he panted breathlessly.  Yuna blinked away irritation, reaching

for a lightpen; it wasn't as common as it had once been, but she still had a number of admirers among the population.  It was a bit embarrassing, after all this time, but she still had her duty.  She called up a smile as she turned to

face the boy.

"Lady Yuna!  You must come at once- there is a new summoner!"

2.

Yuna was stunned, breathless, feeling like all the air in her body had been blasted out of her by an enormous body blow.  It wasn't possible; Yuna and her guardians had released the fayth, ending the ability of the people of Spira to

summon Aeons forever.

"How?" Yuna gasped, "Who?"

Rikku frowned at the boy.  "There aren't any more summoners," she stated flatly.

The boy drew his shoulders back defiantly and produced a small, blue globe.  He set it on the table between them as Paine returned.  Yuna reached for it and picked it up wonderingly- it fit neatly in her hand and seemed to glow from

a crackling internal energy, not unlike the trapped memories in her collection of garment grids.

"We have to see what's on this sphere," Yuna decided.

"We haven't even had our coffee yet!" Rikku wailed while Paine rolled her eyes and snorted.

Paine looked at the boy.  "Coming kid?"

3.

"High Summoner Yuna," the girl began, "the fayth are not gone."

She was tall, slender, with red hair that fell not-quite to her shoulders.  Her movements were graceful, but still betrayed a bit of the awkward coltishness of youth- Yuna put her age at a mature fifteen or a fresh-faced sixteen, but

certainly no older.

The girl in the sphere turned to face her watchers and her blue-eyed gaze was cold and angry.  "The fayth are not gone; you have abandoned them and betrayed them.  Come to the temple at Besaid by midnight tomorrow or I will release

their anger on your friends."

The view in the sphere zoomed out and Yuna could see Wakka, Lulu, and Tidus bound to stone slabs in the Chamber of the Summoner.

4.

Yuna shimmered into existence on the hill overlooking the village.  She had changed into her traditional summoner's garb- a long, purple dress, the flowing, white top and the wide, yellow belt tied in the back.  She carried the

ancient staff, Nirvana, gathered during her pilgrimage those many years ago.  She had considered taking her garment grid, but decided against it at the last moment; Shinra had been uncertain how the continued use of borrowed memories

might affect her mind.

Neither Paine nor Rikku had come along; there was simply too much that needed to be done in Bevelle and they couldn't all uproot themselves at the same time without causing an incident.  Instead, they were covering for the missing

priestess, claiming that she was seeking seclusion on the anniversary of her battle with Vegnagun.

Yuna slipped into the shadows, walking slowly and carefully.  These paths still weren't the safest places in the world, especially at night.  Packs of wild dingoes could make short work of a solitary traveler, while more sinister

flans and condors could be devastating even to experienced warriors, and the monsters had been growing more aggressive in recent years.  Wakka had been working on organizing patrols to keep the paths closer to the village clear, but

they didn't reach this far.

The pack wasn't huge- a large alpha male and two smaller females- but they looked up instantly when Yuna's foot came down a little hard on a patch of dried leaves.  The moonlight reflected bad a red glow from their eyes and saliva

dripped from razor sharp fangs.

"Blast," Yuna whispered, holding Nirvana out in front of her defensively.  The wild dogs circled, growling, splitting up to divide Yuna's attention between them.

Gritting her teeth, Yuna, spun and drew energy from deep within herself.  A ball of wavering yellow-orange light leapt from her fingers to meet the smallest of the females just as she leapt.  The blast was weak, but it served to

surprise and, more importantly, hurt the hound.  The bitch cringed, whining and rubbing at her singed nose with her paws.

Yuna was knocked off her feet from behind.  Of course- turning to deal with one dingo had left her open to attack by the alpha.  She curled up and held Nirvana close to her, using the hard wood to fend off the beast's jaws as she

sought to regain her standing.

A lucky blow sent the big dog staggering back and Yuna capitalized, quickly getting back up.  Teeth snapped near her ankles, tearing away a long strip of the fabric of her dress.  Her feet skipped and suddenly she found herself

waving Nirvana in the intricate patterns of the simplest summoning.  She gathered her will as she danced: "Valefor! Please, fight with me!"

There was a pressure against her will; the warm, familiar feeling of safety and strength her aeon's had always given her, then a blinding pain to her arm that drove all other sensation away.  She felt a sudden loneliness as Nirvana

spun away into the underbrush.  The alpha's jaws were locked on Yuna's forearm, just below her elbow, and the other dingoes were moving in again, more daring now that she was incapacitated.

Killed by wild dogs, Yuna thought bitterly, what a stupid way to die.

The blow came from nowhere, a huge, blue fist that crushed one of the females to its belly with a single strike.  Without pause, a giant stepped forwards, whirling a long spear.  With a swift stab, he caught the alpha high in the

ribs and lifted.  The dog's eyes went dead and it released its jaws as life fled its body.  The last dingo, perhaps sensing that she was overmatched, backed away, growling as Yuna recovered her staff.

Valefor hadn't come.  Yuna reached deep inside her, remembering the gestures, the words, calling the mana from her core.  The glow that formed around her outstretched hand was soft, like a white fog, and she brought it to her lips.

With a breath, the wisps streamed out and encircled the terrified dingo, invading the creature through its mouth and nose.  The growling died to a whimper and the dog staggered back another step before its hind legs gave out and it

collapsed to its rump.  Another moment and it lay down fully, snoring gently.

Valefor hadn't come.  Why hadn't he come?

"Yuna should be more careful," the blue giant rumbled.  He was older, now, aging in Ronso years, with white streaks in the fur covering his thick chest and arms.

"Kimahri!" Yuna cried, delighted.

"Lucky Kimahri was here," the ronso opined seriously, "or else very bad."

Yuna nodded agreement.  "I have to go to the temple," she said, "will you come with me?"

"Kimahri is Yuna's guardian," the giant stated, "first and always.  Kimahri will go with Yuna."

5.

Kimahri preceded Yuna to the doors of the temple.  He moved in a low crouch, his broken horn waving back and forth as he sampled the air for foreign scents.  His mane bristled as they approached.  "Is old magic," he grunted, "but

new...  User is a child.  Beware, Yuna."

"Of a child?" Yuna asked, confused.

"Especially of child.  Very powerful, very angry.  Maybe tantrum."

Yuna swallowed and nodded, pushing through the ancient doors.

She'd expected to have to make her way through the cloister of trials again, as she had in her youth.  Instead, the girl stood waiting for her at the top of the stairs leading to the trials.  More shocking, Valefor- there was no

doubt that it was Valefor- stood between them.

Kimahri moved to interpose himself between Yuna and the aeon.  Valefor reached out with one talon and, almost negligently, delivered a tooth-rattling blow to the warrior, quickly pinning him under his claw.

Yuna gasped.  Valefor had never been that powerful.  The girl snorted derisively.  "I am Sera.  I'm so glad you came."

She began walking down the stairs, casually and elegantly, until she stood face to face with Yuna.  She was a couple inches taller, and she accentuated this by wearing boots with low, wide heels.  When she was just barely too close

to be considered polite, she stopped and looked, smirking, into Yuna's eyes.

Yuna had to resist the urge to back up.  This fight was psychological; if Yuna couldn't best Sera here, what chance would she have if things turned physical?  Instead, Yuna locked gazes with the young woman and stepped belligerently

forward.

"Yes, I came.  Now give my friends back!"

Sera flinched slightly, although she covered it well and almost instantly tried to regain the initiative.  "That won't happen- not until you give me what I want."

Bargaining.  That was a good sign, Yuna thought- it meant, at least, that the girl wasn't so mad or angry that she couldn't be reasoned with.  "If you want anything from me," Yuna grated, "you will let one of your hostages go.  Call

it a sign of good faith."

"But I don't have any good faith," the girl sneered, recovering her balance.  She appeared to be listening to some internal monologue.  She sighed.  "Oh, very well.  You can have one.  Who would you chose?"

"Lulu.  She has a son- a child should be with his mother."

Sera frowned but did not disagree.  "Fine.  She is released."  She made an offhanded gesture and there was a rush of magical energy that nearly drove Yuna to her knees.

"What- what is it you want?" Yuna coughed.  The girl was unbelievably strong.

"You and I- we are going to bring Sin back to the world," Sera answered simply.

"Impossible," Yuna stated, slicing the air in negation.  "Even if I could do it, I would never allow it to happen."

"Don't be an idiot," Sera snarled, "of course you can't do it- you will do the Final Summoning, instead, after I have become Sin."

"What?  You're mad!"

"No, not mad- Spira needs Sin, and I will become Sin.  You will help me, then you will destroy me, beginning the cycle anew."

"I will stop you," Yuna declared, smacking Nirvana's butt against the floor.

Sera smiled tightly.  "You cannot.  You are too weak, too out-of-practice..."

Yuna set her jaw.  "I was the high summoner," she said, "I laid Sin to rest.  I completed my pilgrimage and lived.  I have even brought the dead back to life."  She took a deep breath.  "I will stop you, girl," she said, "I challenge

you to a summoner's duel!"

6.

"As the challenger," Sera noted, "you will summon your aeon first.  By all means- do the best you can."

Yuna began the dance, her feet stepping lightly to a beat and a song only she could hear.  Nirvana rotated, gold and purple flashing in the still air of the temple, and Yuna reached for the long-buried place where she had held

contact with the fayths so many years ago.

"No rush," Sera mocked, her voice dripping sarcasm, "high summoner..."

Yuna's eyes flashed with anger.  How dare this- this child be amused by her difficulty!

No.  The secret was calm.  She knew that.  Be calm, be still.  Be the center of the universe, in a place nothing can touch...

The touch was tenuous at first, but definite, and Yuna grabbed it with a gentle desperation.  She didn't even know whose fayth she had contacted, at first, but it was strong.

"Summoner Yuna- you call, we come," came the sonorous voice in her head.  Yuna exhulted.

"Oh, my..."

It was impossible, of course, but it seemed as if the heavens opened, and the entity that dropped out of them was impossibly massive, far too large to fit in the space offered by the temple.  It crashed into the ground, talons tearing

deep gouges into the stone floor, thick heavy tail switching back and forth like an angry cat.  It threw back its head, metallic scales gleaming, and roared.

Sera looked less than impressed.  "Is that it?" she asked, and began her own dance.  She was less practiced, Yuna could see that, and her movements sometimes jerked awkwardly, yet the summoning was still proficient and Yuna could

feel the power behind it building.

The air took on a warm, cloying scent, sparks of color appeared at the edges of Yuna's vision, then burst into massive blooms.  Three alien women stepped from the flowers and took up position between Sera and Yuna.

The magus sisters readied an attack- it was as familiar to Yuna as if it had been yesterday.  Cindy launched herself into the air on a geyser of water, but Bahamut was ready for her and swatted her backwards with a grunt.  He had no

time to recover, as Sandy pressed her own double-bladed assault.  All the dragon could do was to back away, covering his body with his wings.

Mindy did not attack the dragon, though- instead, she spun in the air, her small wings buzzing furiously, until she was facing directly at Yuna.  There was a hiss, as if the air was suddenly filled with angry bees.  Mindy's passado

had doomed many foes more powerful than Yuna- she was certain that the flight of razor-sharp barbs would be the end of her, yet, somehow, Bahamut managed to interpose his own thick body between them.  The air crackled as the mana

inherent in the world was sucked into the great wheel on his back.  With a mighty roar, the dragon unleased his mega flare directly at the tiny aeon, obliterating most of the flurry of stingers before they could impact with his hide.

The massive blast flung Mindy across the hall so hard that the stone cracked behind her and she collapsed to the ground.

Meanwhile, Bahamut staggered back up to meet another flurry of attacks from Sandy while Cindy turned her attention to her fallen comrade.

Yuna could already see how this would go- Bahamut was doomed.  Her aeon was simply not strong enough.

7.

She began the dance to summon another fayth from the void.

Even as her feet began the intricate steps, Yuna could sense that something was wrong.  There was a movement and her entire left side ignited.  Sera dropped her own staff from her hands and grabbed out to take hold of Nirvana.

Younger, faster, stronger- it was all Yuna could do to hold on against her opponent.  "Ah-ah," Sera growled, "don't think that you can get out of this."

"You can't-" Yuna cried, trying unsuccessfully to buck the youth away from herself, "a summoner's battle is fought only with aeons!"

"Is that how you did it?" Sera teased, then turned her elbow in, smashing her arm against Yuna's face again, "'cause I just think that's stupid!"

The magus sisters finally finished the great dragon, and Bahamut collapsed to the floor.  "No!" Yuna cried, drawing their attention.  They drew around the struggling women, circling them curiously.

"Give it up, high summoner- I will take your aeons for my own; I will use their power and I will become Sin!"  Sera's hands closed around Yuna's throat.  Yuna felt blackness closing in.

8.

"Lady Yuna," the voice was light, timorous, and pulled her out of her despair.

"Who-?"

"You know me, Lady," the voice answered, full of light humor, "but we don't have much time."

A young girl appeared in front of her eyes and reached out her hand, drawing Yuna to her feet.

"You can't stay here," she said, "but there are things you need to know."

Yuna nodded.  Her hand strayed to her face and she was amazed to find it didn't hurt.

"Sera cannot be permitted to succeed.  Sin must never come to exist again," the girl said seriously, "but you cannot stop her."

"What can I do, then?" Yuna asked desperately.

"We will do what Sera has never expected- we will give you the power to become Sin."

"Me?!" Yuna protested.

"You must find a better way, Yuna!  Use your strength and your compassion and mold a better world!"

9.

"I win!" Sera cried, "Yuna is defeated!  None can stand against my will!"

Yuna opened her eyes.  Bahamut still lay on the floor where he'd collapsed.  Suddenly, as if some strange chemical change had finally completed, his body began to float and glowing pyreflies streamed out of him.  Instead of rising

into the heavens, as they usually did, they hovered for a moment, then shot directly into Yuna's open mouth.

The mana from the pyreflies infused Yuna's body, mending her bruises and strengthening her bones and the tissues that held her together.  She opened her mouth and the voice that came out was not her own- or, rather, it was not just

her own.  "Wanna bet?" she asked.

Yuna reached up and grabbed the girl by the back of her neck.  She yanked Sera forward with surprising strength, opening her mouth and engulfing Sera's lips with her own.

The transformation began.

Yuna's shoulders and arms were the first things to change, thickening as she held the struggling Sera to her.  Sera managed to pull her head away from Yuna for an instant.  Just for that moment, Kimahri thought he saw a white, cloudy

mist flowing between the women.

Yuna's hand found the back of Sera's head and pulled her back into the kiss even more forcefully.

Valefor seemed to have lost interest in Kimahri, so the Ronso shoved the aeon with all his considerable strength.  The talon slid off his chest, leaving behind a shallow cut that immediately ran with bright red blood.  Kimahri

struggled to his feet.

"Yuna!  No!" he cried, rushing to the struggling women, ignoring the seemingly frozen aeons littering the room.  He grabbed Yuna's arm and tried to pull her away from Sera.

To his surprise, even with the full weight of his body, his claws digging into the floor as he pulled back, he could not disengage Yuna's grip.

Yuna, still holding Sera, got to her feet.  Sera, perforce, came with her, although she no longer seemed in control of her body.  Yuna held the girl upright, Sera's knees bent, her feet still dragging on the floor.  As Kimahri

watched, Yuna's back and hips widened, getting bigger to support weights the likes of which not even the Ronso had ever known.

Yuna let go of Sera and the girl collapsed to her knees.  "Do you know what Sin was?" Yuna asked the girl conversationally, "It was not, as many believed, a punishment for our sins, or for our overuse of machina."  She looked

directly into Sera's stunned eyes.

"Sin was one man's panic, spread to an entire city, made manifest."

She was floating now, her body suspended in the air by the glowing pyreflies that seemed to be swarming to her out of nowhere and everywhere at once.

"I will not allow Sin to exist again.  A thousand years of death, destruction, living in fear- I won't allow it!"

The transformation began in earnest.

Yuna did not grow taller, yet the pyreflies flooded her body and overflowed, filling her with muscle and bone unlike anything the world had ever seen.  She threw back her head and roared, her voice so powerful that the sonic

emanations simply vaporized the ceiling of the temple.  Sera and Kimahri staggered back, holding their ears.

A shudder ran through the high summoner's body as she called upon all of the fayth that she had known, personally, and drew them into her body.  Her chest expanded, thick, massive slabs of pectoral muscle supporting breasts that,

despite growing to insane sizes, seemed comically small on her gigantic body.

With tiny, slow steps, Yuna turned to face Sera.  The ground literally shook as she stepped towards the cowering girl.  "My friends," she told the girl, "fetch them."

"What?" Sera gulped, confused.

Yuna pursed her lips and stamped her foot, shaking dust from what remained of the ceiling.

"Oh- yes!" Sera agreed, shaking her head, "at once!"

Yuna rolled her eyes and looked over to the entry to the Cloister of the Fayth.  She was rapidly expanding to the point where she would be too large to handle even simple tasks by herself.  She grimaced.

"Not exactly practical, is it Kimahri?" she chuckled.

"Yuna is Kimahri's friend," the Ronso stated, not answering her question, "Kimahri will help Yuna with whatever she needs!"

"Thank you, Kimahri," Yuna laughed, "but I don't think that's really the answer.

Her arms were now so large that she couldn't bend her arms even up to ninety degrees.

"I can't go on like this," she decided.  She could no longer even gesture at herself, much as she tried.  "The fayth charged me with using their power to improve the world.  That's what I'll do."

She grinned.

"I learned something about Sera- and about Sin.  Sin is fear made solid; Sera was not wrong- she could have become Sin.  She was so powerful and, at the same time, so terrified- of herself, mainly, but of other things as well...

"I will take that fear from her.  Or, at least, I'll try to.  From every woman on Spira..."

Once again, Yuna's body glowed with the light of a sun going nova.  Kimahri found that, try as he might, he couldn't look at her.  The pyreflies streamed back out of her body even as more found their way in.

The final transformation began...

10.

Yuna and Tidus walked slowly back up the hill overlooking Besaid for one last time before boarding the Celsius.

Yuna still had some vestiges of her recent possession- her body was firmer, stronger, her stomach harder, her shoulders thicker, her butt rounder and tighter.  "I thought for sure you'd keep a little more muscle," Tidus laughed,

hugging his girl around the shoulders.

She laughed, her arm wrapped around his waist.  "Did you?" she asked.  He nodded and she grinned, sweeping her arm down under his butt and lifting him easily to her chest.  She darted in and planted a firm kiss on his lips.  "I did..."

she breathed, her biceps digging into his back and easily supporting his weight.

Nice one. I'd love to see a continuation on this story.
