War of the Worlds

It was the night of April 12th, 2002.

Captain Jill Hemming and Lieutenant Rick Phillips were on patrol near the U.S.–Mexico border. Both were members of Section 54—a classified division tasked with investigating unexplained aerial incidents.

Earlier that evening, reports had come in: a flash of light, followed by an explosion in a remote stretch of New Mexico desert.

After hours of driving, their jeep finally approached the crash site. The engine died abruptly, leaving an eerie silence—broken only by a faint, unnatural buzzing.

They continued on foot.

Scattered metallic debris led them to a massive, partially buried craft. Its surface shimmered faintly in the dark.

"A saucer," Rick muttered.

Jill didn't hesitate. She stepped through a jagged opening in the hull. Rick followed.

Inside, the air felt charged.

Several alien bodies lay motionless—but not all were dead.

One of them—tall, heavily built—rose slowly to its feet.

It was female.

Rick drew his weapon.

"Stay back!"

The alien ignored him. With shocking speed, she seized the gun and bent the barrel like soft metal.

Jill fired—once, twice—forcing the creature to stagger.

Before collapsing, the alien crawled toward a console and struck a glowing red panel.

A blinding yellow light filled the craft.

Then—darkness.

When Jill and Rick regained their sight, backup had arrived.

They were taken for medical testing. No radiation. No immediate effects.

Cleared, they returned home.

The next morning, everything changed.

Jill woke early and went to the bathroom. Half-asleep, she splashed water on her face.

Something felt... wrong.

Her arm.

It was harder. Larger.

She reached up and turned on the light.

And froze.

Her reflection stared back at her—transformed. Her frame had expanded with dense, defined muscle. Every movement revealed strength she had never possessed.

This wasn't subtle.

This was impossible.

"Jill?" Rick called from the bedroom.

She hesitated.

"Just... come here."

When Rick switched on the lamp and saw her, his expression said everything.

"What happened to you?"

They returned to base immediately.

Inside the facility, the reaction was... unexpected.

Not shock.

Recognition.

"You've been exposed," the General said calmly.

He gestured toward another room.

Inside stood Claire Montgomery—a technician.

She had changed too.

"The light from the craft," the General explained, "triggers extreme muscular development—but only in females. We don't yet understand why."

Rick shook his head.
"That's impossible."

Jill glanced at him—then effortlessly lifted him off the ground.

"Doesn't feel impossible."

Later, Jill and Claire were brought to observe the surviving alien.

The creature—massive, powerful—had been contained behind reinforced glass.

At first, it refused to communicate.

Then it saw them.

And everything changed.

"I will speak," it said, "but only to them."

After hesitation, Jill and Claire entered the chamber.

The alien studied them closely.

"You've felt it," she said. "The change."

Jill nodded.

The alien spoke of its world—a civilization once ruled by males, until a breakthrough altered everything.

A biological trigger.

A transformation.

Power, shifted completely.

"We came here seeking survival," the alien said. "A new beginning."

Before more could be said—

Gunfire erupted.

The alien collapsed.

Silence filled the chamber.

Officially, nothing of importance had been learned.

Unofficially—

Jill and Claire knew better.

That night, they met in private.

Neither spoke at first.

Then Jill said quietly:

"What if it's not just us?"

Claire looked up.

The next day, in a secured lab, Claire stood alone.

Carefully, she aligned the alien device toward a communications relay.

A risk.

A theory.

A choice.

She hesitated only a moment—

Then activated it.

A burst of yellow light surged outward.

Twenty-four hours later, Claire sat in her apartment, staring at the television.

Waiting.

Watching.

Had it worked?
