Title: 2020 New York Pro
Post by: posecrab on September 13, 2019, 12:58:14 am
I have heard that women's physique is coming back to the 2020 New York Pro. I am still hoping they will bring back bodybuilding too but I would not hold my breath.

Bodybuilding will only come back if physique competitors switch categories. Rarely will someone join in bodybuilding, since there are more chances
with physique.
My suggestion would be that the categories should be stepping stones for categories. You could enter either bikini, figure, physique or bodybuilding. Then when you win enough bikini, your next stepping stone would be figure, and then all the way up to bodybuilding.

I wish they had IFBB Pro shows or Wings of Strength shows in Washington D.C or Northern Virginia area. They always have it in southeast Virginia(Norfolk).

Yup, that' is how it has worked since  Figure was introduced, so athletes have a starting point. When Figure got too big, Bikini was introduced. Now FBB is becoming more popular again, I am sure we will see a few more Physique athletes want to give FBB a go.

I can see a lot of physique girls crossing over to either lightweight or middleweight bodybuilding.

I hope they bring back both physique and women's body building. Frankly, it's always been confusing to me how an event that has Bev Francis associated with it would allow the most muscular women to be excluded. Has she ever given an interview about that?

If female bodybuilding is coming back to the Olympia next year, I think it will trickle down to the other major shows like the Arnolds, Europas, and among others.

I don't think it be back at the Arnold's or the Europa.

Not if The Wings Of Strength has already signed on for Europa and Arnold Sports Festival. I hope they did.

With Wings of Strength now sponsoring the New York Pro, does that mean that the show will now have women's bodybuilding again? I would assume so, but have we seen any official (or unofficial) confirmation?

Wings of Strength officially confirmed it today on social media that women's body building is returning to the New York Pro after a 10 year hiatus!

I thought it was Women's Physique not bodybuilding.

I thought it was Women's Physique not bodybuilding.

From the Wings of Strength IG Account on January 12:

"This was the top 3 at the 2010 New York Pro, last edition of the show that featured the women bodybuilding class:
1. Cathy LeFrancois
2. Sheila Bleck
3. Heather Foster
Now with the return of the class at the #NewYorkPro in 2020, who would you think the crown will go to? Who’s gonna take home the 2020 Ms Olympia Qualification?"

I would hope that they are bringing back both bodybuilding AND women's physique, but I haven't seen anything posted about physique yet.

Lenda Murray is sponsoring a new show in Savannah, Georgia.
Looks like she's all in to save women's BB one show at a time.  Hope she has very good backers.

Yeah, big props to Lenda.

I was really disappointed in Betty Pariso after she retired from competition that she didn't do anything to promote more FBB shows. She and her husband promoted a number of shows but none of them included FBB, which was really disappointing because she was a long time competitor.

Can't forget Bev Francis stabbed fbbing in tha back. She dropped fbbing from NY Pro and then dropped physique. The story goes after the last time Betty had fbbing at the Europa she bad mouthed the women.

That’s hard to figure.

She is probably still upset about not winning the Olympia in 1991.

That's such a bulljive statement, man. Ed & Betty Pariso promoted women's pro bodybuilding shows and attempted to promote more, but ultimately did not receive enough financial support from fans and sponsors.  Throwing shade on Betty Pariso because she didn't try to go broke for a "show" is unfair.  You're entitled to your opinion, but you can't say that they didn't try.  That's not honest.
