Wolfenstein - the old blood will release at May 5th.

Google for this description and you will discover a new trailer on Youtube.  ;)

Its predecessor "Wolfenstein the new order" was already fucking hot.

Broforce (http://www.broforcegame.com/) has been occupying my time a lot lately. It's so damned addicting. It takes me back to the good ol' days of Contra and Metal Slug. I also bought Age of Empires II HD Edition on Steam. I've kind of given up on modern gaming. The only two games that I'm really looking forward to are Batman: Arkham Knight and MGS5: The Phantom Pain. Nothing else is really worth it in my opinion.

Recently reinstalled Civilization V, with brave new world and gods and kings expansion pack.

I was playing master league in PES 2015, but my gamepad was broken. :(
It's about time to replace it anyway.

A buddy of mine got Bloodbourne, checked it out over the weekend. Beautiful graphics,
beautiful artwork, but I don't know, something about it left me cold. More of the same old,
same old FPS I guess.

Looking forward to Witcher 3.

Starcraft 2- IMO the most in depth, challenging, and competitive game I have ever played.

GTA V is great though.

I agree with that. Dark Souls is vastly overrated. I think it's because games baby you through them nowadays that a difficult game stands out from the crowd. There wasn't anything particularly impressive about it, other than the fact that it was balls-hard.

There is a lot of great attributes about Grand Theft Auto V. There is a mission in which you race an exercise obsessed woman. She actually has some muscle.  The funny thing is she mocks and insults you the entire time of the race. The character's name is Mary Ann Quinn. I just cannot stop playing this game.

Just played Resistance 3 which I picked up at Gamespot for $9.99. One of the best FPS I've ever played,
way better than the Killzones, etc. Spectacualr gameplay, HUGE arsenal of weapons to choose from, and
brillant graphics. Diamond in the rough, highly recommended.

Pinball, real or emulated,  will always have a special place in my heart.

Just saw the Hardbody machine on sale in my country, Rachel McLish on the backglass and all. But I'm too lazy to work with old mechanics, prefer to play them...

I've just started on the PC version and the novelty hasn't worn off yet. After seeing some of the muscle mods for fallout and saints row I'm very curious to see what might be created.

Playing GTA V again, this time on PC although I've completed it on PS3.

There's a director mode on PC where you can play as different character models, including a female bodybuilder.

I'm playing a version of GTA V that my one eyed friend gave to me and I'm not sure if/how I can do director mode. Let the googling begin.

I did find this...

I figured out director mode. Emotes/actions seem a bit limited. I couldn't get her to do any posing, flexing, or talking.
Just playing around I made a clip which this gif was created from.

Video renders fast and 23 seconds was only 28.5 MB

Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1594x872 59.94fps 10095kbps [V: h264 high L4.2, yuv420p, 1594x872, 10095 kb/s]
Audio: AAC 48000Hz stereo 196kbps [A: SoundHandler (aac lc, 48000 Hz, stereo, 196 kb/s)]

More fun stuff to come!

Hopefully someone would come up with mods for better looking fbb character models.

So I picked up Far Cry 4, and I don't know what to feel about it. It's basically the same as Far Cry 3, only in a different setting with a few new (and curiously older) guns. While it is immensely satisfying to blast a rhino with an elephant gun for being a dickhead and running into my truck, (along with every other goddamned animal in the game. Why is the ecosystem trying to kill me?) I'm kind of sad that I spent the $25 to buy it used. The graphics are great, but I'm already a little bored with it.

I'm about 1/2 way through Grand Theft Auto V (yeah, took me a while to get around to it).
Greatest game in the history of mankind. You know it is, because I typically don't like these kind
of games, but I'm totally enthralled/obsessed with this one. I still think Red Dead Redemption is the best of
them all, simply because it was so original, but GTA V is right there with it.

Yeah, got to give it to Rockstar. They have been making some of the best games for a while now. I love the first person view in GTA5. I already beat it on the PS3, but it was well worth it for me to play it again in first person. I agree with you, best video game ever (so far). I also loved Red Dead Redemption! Such a beautiful game and yes, very original.

That doesn't bother me. People are already pissing and moaning about the graphics as if thats all that matters and the fucking game hasn't even been released yet. Did I mention many gamers are spoiled, crybaby idiots?

Arkham Knight is a letdown. Its about as good as Arkham City, but with driving. I'm really not impressed. It's more of the same. The story is good, but driving the Batmobile ain't all it's cracked up to be, and thats literally the main emphasis of the game. Almost every Riddler challenge involves the Batmobile in some way. Aside from that, it's the same game as the last three just with lots of shooting tanks.

And yes, Red Dead Redemption was a masterpiece. I would argue that it was Rockstar's absolute best, with GTA5 Coming in second.

I agree with you and khuddle about RDR being the best as far as originality, but I'd give GTA5 the nod as far as the sheer size of the game and how much there is to do. I'm amazed how many things there are to do in it. I already got 100% completion and there's still plenty to do. The replay value of this game is off the charts. I can only imagine how much code they managed to cram into it and it still works nearly flawlessly and they fixed basically everything that was wrong from GTA4 and Liberty City Stories. I'm curious to see what Rockstar will release next and I can only imagine how great the next GTA game will be.

Batman Arkham Knight - I'm a huge Batman fan and love the whole Arkham Series.
The Batmobile can be 'take it or leave it' and has become a very decisive part of the player base.

I've definitely put more hours into it than I have any other game this year.

I never really got into contemporary gaming.. I still have some working old school systems I play with my family. They enjoy both the new and old systems.
But right now, we're playing some games on my old TurboGrafx deck, and Sega Genesis:
Forgotten Worlds
Bonk's Adventure
Super Hang-On
Golden Axe
Dungeon Explorer
Streets of Rage
Blazing Lazers
(mostly games from the real early 90s).

I played it. It seemed more like an expansion of Far Cry 3 than a new game. I still liked it for a little while though. The scenery was gorgeous and it was fun shooting animals in the face with the Elephant Gun, especially those fucking eagles and rhinoceros (rhinoceroses? Rhinoceri?).

Saw some new gameplay footage of Fallout 4. Looks like a Bioshock Infinite clone. I mean, almost a duplicate.
I'm still going to get it because its Bethesda (who I consider the 2nd best gaming company after Rockstar) but
I can't say my expectations are too high.

'Clone?' As far as what? The gameplay will be vastly different. Bioshock was linear, Fallout IV will be open world, in addition to the Minecraft building elements, and the Mass Effect-style dialog system, and the actually viable 3rd person camera mode. Unless it deals with parallel universes, and has a mindfuck of a story, I guess I just don't see how it's going to be a 'clone.'

You and me both. Doom was the first FPS that I got into. Wasn't it the first FPS ever? Then Turok and Goldeneye and a bunch of others. I got burned out on first person shooters and stopped playing them for quite a while, but I love the FPS mode in GTA5.

Bethesda is also coming out with a new Doom game and it looks SICK!!!! I have no doubt it will be, by far the best Doom yet. Can't wait to play it.

Here's news I'm sure Ninja will be overjoyed to hear (as am I): Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain scores a perfect 10 on both Gamespot (who
I like as a website as they are tough critics of games and don't hand out 9s and 10s very easily) and IGN (which is kind of a joke of a website
except for their game walkthroughs which are kind of useful). I've seen gameplay of the game, and it looks unbelievable.

Disney Infinity 3.0 out this Sunday.

MGS3: Snake Eater and MGS4: Guns of the Patriots still rank amongst my absolute favorite games of all time, along side Red Dead Redemption and Batman: Arkham City (Witcher III: Wild Hunt is now also in that category. Holy fucking shit that game is amazing.) I held off playing Ground Zeroes simple because I want the story all in one shot, rather than be left hanging until Phantom Pain came out. Hopefully a bundle will come out soon and I can get it all in one shot.

Again its one of those genres that I normally don't play, but it looks so good (not just the review, the video gameplay looks fantastic too) I'm going to give it a shot.

First I have to finish all these PS3 game first (halfway through Far Cry 3 -- very fun game, if surprisingly difficult in some areas).

I'm not exactly a 'computer games aficionado' but for some reason I have a hankering for some of my old DOS games.  Assuming I can using DOS Box or something similar on my Win7 64-bit system, I'm gonna try and have a go at (this shows how long since I've played any PC games seriously [I have a couple of newer ones I rarely play]):

Grand Prix (the original 1991 GP season version)
Quake 1

 :woohoo:

I used to be a whiz at 'Grand Prix' just with a keyboard, although admittedly I did cheat a bit by doing a bit of 'rally crossing' across the grass at chicanes to overtake on some occasions.  I just had to be careful not to wear out the keyboard!  I do occasionally play the Android versions (different names to get round the copyright, but the same in every other respect) of 'Out Run' and '1942' (loved these when I was a kid - spending all my holiday money in the arcades).  I must be getting old - no matter how many newer games I try on others PCs, I just can't get to grips with them.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate gets a 9 on Gamespot. Its a bit of the same old same old -- I've played III (which is great and
hugely underrated) and IV (also great) -- but the world looks deep and rich and the graphics look spectacular. I'll play it as
soon as I finish DA:I and Witcher 3.

Assassin's Creed is yet another Ubisoft franchise that I officially don't care about anymore just like Splinter Cell. Assassin's Creed II was the best. Everything else is sadly irrelevant.

Fucking The Witcher III: Wild Hunt through. Is anybody else's copy of the game as bugged as mine on PS4? It seems like the longer I play it, the weirder the game acts. Like certain controls stop working (like being unable to dive when swimming, or Roach won't gallop), the camera gets all weird (zooming in on the back of Geralt's head, or inside Geralt's head making you unable to interact with anything), and any time I'm in Skellige, people do this weird crouch walk two feet off the ground when in town. And then in Novigrad, the game will arbitrarily pause for a second, the screen with blur and then everything will be fine. But this happens a lot, even in the middle of conversations. Reloading seems to fix these issues, but I thought that last 15 gig patch was supposed to address a lot of bugs. It seems like it introduced more. They still haven't fixed those free DLC quests though. I'm still unable to complete Skellige's Most Wanted because the werewolf won't die and that one quest (I forget which one) that causes the game to crash still acts up occasionally.

Also, I hate Yennifer of Vengerberg with a passion. Not only did I not feel the slightest bit bad breaking up with her, I wished Geralt would've done a "I'm single again!" montage like in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me afterwards. I also enjoyed making out with Triss right in front of her.

Agreed with you about Ubisoft, though they do have the odd hot here and there, they generally do suck. But I like what I've
seen of Syndicate, so I'm going to give it a shot.

I simply cannot agree more.

I consider the departure of the series creator a bit before AC II shipped the turning point for the franchise.

And the fact that Unity managed to bore me despite taking place during the French Revolution is testament enough of Ubisoft's inadequacy in nurturing the mentality that basically made the franchise what it is.

Hmm. A lot of folks seem to hate the Assassin Creed series. But Gamespot gave it a 9 and IGN (yes, apparently,
they still review games once in a while), gave it an "8.2". Think I'll leave it on my wishlist and pick it up when the
price bottoms out around $20 or so.

I found the first one to be a good mix of the real (Ishmahily) Hashashins, their legend, Vladimir Bartol's novel (Alamut), with good science fiction. The Italian trilogy (Ezio Auditore's) kinda derailed it, or at least, in my opinion, kept the less important stuff and removed the best: in AC1, each assasination was some kind of puzzle, while here, it merely contributes to the story. Also, because they got too enthusiastic with "Forrest Gumping" (interacting with actual historical figures), you can't kill many of these people.
I didn't play AC3 or 4 (nor I will).

I think the Assassins Creed games would've been better without the modern day story line. Every Desmond segment sucked. I liked the Renaissance setting of II and Brotherhood, but it ran it's course. I wanted to like 3 because I liked the American Revolution setting but the story was so weak and the game was buggy as hell that it killed my interest in further games after that. I gave not one shit about IV and I don't even know how many installments they're currently up to, like VII or VIII, right? It seems like they only care about multiplayer anyway, which is something I hate also.

I just finished Alien Isolation and I have say I feel cheated. It got tedious fast and the ending was crap. The first time the xenomorph showed up it was exciting but about 5 or 6 hours later it was just annoying.

@khuddle

AC games have been having the same issues for years now, so whining is truly in order more often than not.

@oriander2000

You're spot on with AC1 though I still have high esteem for AC2, not the others. It's no wonder that the first two titles were directed by the same person.

@NinjaStar

Story held till, let's say, Brotherhood. Revelations was messed up, ACIII messed up, Black Flag was at least fun but, again, not up there story-wise and Unity is the single example of anything related to the French Revolution boring me to death enough to notice in spite of the terrible bugs and performance. That right there is an achievement for all the wrong reasons.

Rogue was actually OK though. As for Syndicate, a patchwork. Which is to be expected. Even if Ubisoft wants to turn things around, they can't that soon give their development cycles. The thing is, by the time they fix enough stuff, it might not matter.

@kinsyoolivia

Dishonored rocks indeed.

I realize that many people probably haven't had great experience with early access games, but I picked up Grim Dawn during a recent Steam sale and been having a blast.  It is an ARPG in the spirit of Titan Quest and Diablo II.

It is already quite polished, has three of four acts complete, the classes and skill trees are fully developed. You might not have to wait long to pick up the finished product, all content is scheduled to be complete at the end of the year, but then again this game has been in early access since 2013...

Pros:
-  Many different "builds" are viable through mastery and skill combinations, and (with some exceptions) the theory craft is gear independent.  Character development isn't dumbed down the way it is in Diablo III where every barbarian is running the same skills, in the same gear, that they played auction house tycoon to acquire.

-  A lot of skills retain usefulness in the late game even with minimal investment.  I have skills slotted in two different toolbars on my blademaster.

-  Loot drops are just right.  You may need to farm a while to get a specific kind of drop for a specific character, but you will be rewarded with sets and epics regularly.  With self-found single-pass gear, the content can be cleared by a skilled player.  End game gear (the kind that appears on build guides) is really only necessary for face-tanking nemesis spawns and one-shotting bosses.

-  If you change your mind about your build, you can respec spent skill points (but not mastery points).

-  No online requirement.  Once installed, you can play anytime, anywhere, no server needs to be up.

-  Slightly more compelling plot and dialogue, imo, than the average ARPG.

Cons:

-  No online requirement.  Duping is rampant, practically every item or crating material can be found on someone's saved game file.  Though personally, I don't care about how other people are playing the game, it is not a competition.

-  The game is not finished and predictions don't always approximate reality.

-  Might be too easy, they've only implemented two of four planned difficulty levels thus far, and perhaps end game gear will eventually not seem superfluous.

-  If you are mostly interested in multiplayer, this probably isn't the game for you.  There is no PvP (I think), and I'm not aware of any adjustments to opposition and drops in multiplayer yet.

This sounds like Diablo for people who don't like Diablo. The worst thing about the Diablo series is the reliance on online play to get any remotely good gear. That auction house nonsense made me not even want to play D3. I might have to give Grim Dawn a look.

Warhammer - The End Times: Vermintide is a pretty solid game. Even better playing with friends. But then again, it may sound like I'm a bit biased since I've read all The End Times books and am a Warhammer fan.

If there's any PC gamers out there, I would highly recommend Layers Of Fear. It is an Early-Access game, but it's a near perfect psychological horror game. On par, if not better, than PT.

I've popped into a few Games Workshops when they have new releases, but never played the tabletops. Never could get into them. Too expensive and plus, to be honest, the BO was horrendous in the shops. Apparently hygiene was not a main factor to majority of the people in there. So I stick to the fluff/lore and the videogames.

That reminds me of my DnD days. There was a hobby store near my house that sold game material and the guy at the counter looked exactly like the Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons and the other nerds that hung out there barely washed. You're not lying about the expense either. I'm glad I stopped playing by the time 4e rolled out. I would be pissed about having to rebuy all the books.

Fallout 4 is great so far. The character builder is rather robust, more so than the previous games. You have the option of changing the body type too. It follows the same triangle thing that the last few Saints Row games do; muscular, skinny, and fat. The muscular female character isn't much to write about, but at least it's an attempt.

Zero interest in Doom. Doom 3 had its charm back in the 90s, but its time to move on.

About 20% through "The Last of Us" on my PS3. Right now I'm wondering what they hype was all about.
Pretty pedestrian game so far. We'll see if it lives up to its gaudy reputation.

It doesn't. It's another example of a rushed game. The concept was good, the story is good, but the gameplay falls short.

I for one loved The Last Of Us. Other than some spotty AI in very particular instances, everything pretty much clicked (no pun intended). It all gels at and after a very particular section in the wilderness that I won't spoil.

And while I accept this game can't be everyone's cup of tea, but a rushed game it's not. Especially note in a world were we now get full priced releases with nebulous promises for more free content after the fact (that may or may not come at all) and Season Passes that can cost (almost) as much as the game itself.

Which happened in The Last of Us. The production was delayed for 'polish', but I just think they weren't able to fulfill everything they set out to do like what happened with Trespasser, just on a much less catastrophic level. They said that the AI was going to be great, but they didn't really deliver on that. The whole tense stealth mechanic seems artificial when it's only you that enemies react to, and sometimes you're forced into fighting waves of stupid enemies regardless of whether you set out to or not. Combat felt like a chore rather than white-knuckle tension. It felt like one of those cheap attempts to make the game harder artificially by handicapping the player while the enemies in the game aren't so restrained. It kind of cheapened the whole experience for me kind of like in Alien Isolation where I was seriously sick of hiding from the Xenomorph about halfway through the game and the novelty of being needlessly vulnerable wore off very quickly.

If they were trying to de-emphasize combat, then don't include it so much in the game, or at least make it so it's not frustrating. Don't give me guns if I can't use them.

Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the characters and the production that went into it. I just felt like the gameplay just didn't really stack up in comparison. It would've made a better movie, or a miniseries than a game.

I'm quite sure what I described didn't happen in The Last Of Us. A delay is a delay, not a promise to amend something in the future.

Now, no one ever fully delivers on what they set out to do in gaming. This is not an excuse, this is just reality for any big scale production, regardless of good or bad management. I don't care much for what "they" say as "they" say mostly what the marketing department prefers to be heard. I try to focus on what is delivered, what makes sense in the end, not on what was promised unless we're talking cases of straight up lies from companies. The AI was spotty here and there by Infected standards. But that's the thing. Once a developer settles on zombies or anything like them, it's done as a way out too. Simulating humans can be that much more jarring. I know. There were human enemies in the game too. Not for most of the time though. The combat itself is an evolution of lessons learned from the Uncharted series and there need be more lessons, of course. But I don't get your reasoning for something in particular. Why not handicap the player? Be it in The Last Of Us or Alien Isolation? Why does it make much more sense to end a game feeling all powerful or, at least, universally efficient at pretty much everything?

And one more thing. How could the contrast between the deer hunting section the subsequent boss fight that turns what you learn while hunting on its head feel better as a series or a movie than as a game in which you have control while such an antithesis builds on your own actions?

I've only seen a little of the gameplay, but it looked pretty cool to me. I was huge into First Person Shooters when Goldeneye and Turok, etc. came out way back when, but as time went on I became less and less and less interested in them. I haven't played a FPS in a long time, excluding the first person mode in GTA5 which I thoroughly enjoyed. I rarely buy video games anymore though. For the most part, I'm not into fantasy or war games and that seems to be about all there is besides sports, racing and kids games. I did like the football game that came out around 2004//2005 that had a first person view. Anyone remember that one? I do like certain racing games like drag racing, open-wheel and the Gran Turismo series. Especially 6 because they FINALLY had the mind to give you the option to remove the HUD from the screen! Something they should've done since the first game.

Ok, back to Doom. They said the gameplay was going to be much more like the original and I think I'm going to like that aspect of it. I've enjoyed all the other Doom games and since I rarely buy games anymore it will be something "fresh" for me to play.

I'm not talking about all powerful, but at least a level playing field where it's rewarding to succeed, not simply 'okay that's done'. I never felt like I really accomplished anything passing all the combat sections  of The Last of Us, merely that I jumped over another hurdle. Same deal in Alien Isolation when you evade the Xenomorph for the millionth time. It doesn't mean anything and so it's tedium especially because you're going to have to do it again in two minutes regardless of how well you do. The Uncharted games are great because you are offered a variety of ways to tackle a situation. Since the combat is fluid it never feels like a chore because you can approach a section differently. You have a fighting chance, even on Crushing difficulty.

Artificial handicaps suck because like I said it just feels cheap compared to a game with a real challenge. Imagine entering a contest where you have to pick up silver dollars with your nails. You can keep any you pick up. Then someone comes along and super glues a pair of boxing gloves onto your hands.  None of the other competitors have that handicap.  You have two minutes to pick up 200 coins or else you get shot in the head.  It may be doable, but it's needlessly difficult.

If The Last of Us was a series or a movie, there would be plenty of thoughtful, moving scenes even if not every single thing in the game happened in the hypothetical film.  As I said the story was excellent. But it would make the theme of what a desperate person would do in a survival situation more meaningful if you didn't have to murder the shit out of everything that comes along every five minutes.

Yup.. You can lose a chunk of your life wandering Novigrad, Velen, White Orchid and Skellige islands :)

You're not kidding. This is one of the best games I've ever played. Just about everything in this game is great. Hearts of Stone had an incredible story too, and I loved the mission where you attend the wedding. Very memorable. The only thing I don't like about it is how whenever you pick up a contract to look for a person, they are always already dead. There's so much bleakness and misery all around. It would be nice to be able to save somebody for once, and not merely be the bearer of bad news.

That, and Yennefer. It was such a joy to break up with her and be overly flirty with Triss right in front of her at Kaer Morhen.

I tell you what, everything I said about the "Last of Us", I take back. That was a GREAT game. The gameplay was a
little rough in places, and the story took a while to develop, but when it did, wow, what a thrill ride.
The "Winter" section in particular was superb. I don't think I've ever seen graphics like that on a PS3 game. The story
and characters were terrific, and the voice acting was brillant. I wouldn't quite put it in the same class as the elites
like RDR, GTA V and Skyrim, because it was a tad short and the story was slow out of the gate, but I'd only put it a
notch below. Great, great game.

Now onto to my PS4 games.

I like the driving simulation games. I used to play arcade games like Pole Position, Out Run, Road Wars, and Spy Hunter. For 1st generation PlayStation it was 1st generation Grand Turismo. For computer games it was pre windows 95 Test Drive, and then Need For Speed. The other one was Top Gun pre windows 95.

Have you played the Burial at Sea DLCs? They really expand on and tie together the original Bioshock's story with Infinite.

I played for PS4 I was blown away.. the feeling of excitement of playing a great game reminded me of Resident 1 and 2.. Metal Gear Solid etc.   Story leads itself to sequels and prequels (10 year gap between daughter dying to storyline)

I know this is the gaming section, but figure might as well start the discussion here -- because it is in some ways related --
rather than starting a new thread:

What did you guys think of the new Star Wars movie?

I liked it a lot. Loved it? No it wasn't a masterpiece, like the Empire Strikes Back. The few things that annoyed me about it were:

** SPOILERS AHEAD **

I though the ending was weak. The Lightsabre battle in the end was a letdown -- a fight between a wounded Sith and a total Jedi novice.
And we're somehow supposed to believe that a novice with no lightsabre training whatsoever can beat a trained Sith warrior. And then
the final space battle was also weak. Did not the measure up to the space battles of A New Hope or Return of the Jedi.

Other than that, I thought the move was awesome. Great acting, particular on the part of Ridley, Ford and Fisher. Humor was genuinely
funny. And it was a great set-up for Episode 8, so may possibilities, so many directions the story can go in.

What did you guys think?

I think you guys should give Assassin's Creed 4 a chance. I was pretty blown away by it. 50/50 mix of stealth missions and
awesome naval warfare (so much fun to go up against a 120 gun British Man 'O War). Killer storyline, and compelling characters.
Sure it has flaws and the controls can be incredibly frustrating at times, but it is still definetly worth checking out.

I liked Bioshock Infinites ending, but I LOOOOVED Bioshock 1s ending.

Spoilers for anyone who hasn't played it:

If you save all the Little Sisters rather than harvesting ANY, you get the "Good" ending. And I mean the GOOD ending! The narration goes on to tell you that you escape Rapture with the Little Sisters, who are all displaced, more or less. Their mother is dead, their home is gone...so they stay with you. It goes over a brief few clips of your life, and how they grow up with you as your daughters. It ends off with the girls surrounding you on your death bed, smiling and happy as you slip away peacefully. And it's just such an amazing "good" ending; You saved the day, gave these girls a full, fulfilling life they could be proud of, and your final reward is being their their father and it's just beautifully done with the narration. Not to mention Dr. Tannenbaum telling you that you gave her restored faith in humanity because of your selflessness.

I did like the warmth of that ending, but I'll argue that Burial At Sea Episode 2s ending was better because of how it tied the franchise together. I had no idea they were going to make Infinite have anything to do with Bioshocks 1 and 2 but it basically comes out of left field and makes for a nice surprise.

But anyway, I just picked up Dying Light and currently like the he'll out of it. I love zombie games and it's especially satisfying dropkicking zombies onto spikes, judo throwing them off buildings, and blowiilng them all to pieces with a well placed firecracker onto an oil slicked explosive barrel.  The night sections are very well done, suitably tense, but rewarding to someone who memorized the streets and knows which traps are where.

It's a neat detail that as you kill more and more zombies there are less and less of them on the streets. The only problem is that I have all these weapons and nothing to kill except those clean suit wearing zombies that pop up every now and again and those big ones with the rebar clubs.

Just finished playing "Brothers" on my brand spankin' new PS4. Run, don't walk, to go get this game.
One of the best games I've played in the last 2-3 years. Its kind of like "Return of the King" (ie where
Frodo and Sam venture into Mordor) meets Uncharted. But its much more. Some people have
complained that it is too short -- it only takes about 3 hours to complete. But the gameplay is fun and
creative, and the artwork and the settings will simply take your breath away. A must have for your collection.

Maaaan I sold my busted PS4 so I've actually been playing XCOM and Dragon's Dogma. I love this game for the obvious reason of having giant jacked women beating the crap out of monsters I can make. That's sweet, but it's still fun to go back to it.

I could never get into Uncharted though. Felt too much like a movie and didn't give me enough to do that I enjoyed. Haven't messed with tomb raider yet though. I'll get on it.

Never understood the appeal of Dragons Dogma. It has a bestiary of what, ten monsters total. You
are always fighting the same monsters in that game. Plus the henchmen are very annoying after a while.

Playing Far Cry 4 on the PS4, loving it. It IS more or less the same thing as Far Cry 3, but the controls
and gameplay are far more polished this time 'round, making a world of difference.

It's all about the pawn system really. Which is a novel and quite good system that should be imitated sooner rather than later.

Dragons Dogma was one of those games that could've been good but was poorly executed. I liked the robust creation system except I wish there were sliders instead of presets. Also I wish The muscled physiques were more pleasing. They were very top heavy with long gorilla-like arms but thin legs. The gameplay fell incredibly short though. 75% of every quest was a goddamned fetch quest demanding 20 goose labias or 15 motes of dust with the remaining 25% a sprinkling of escort quests and monster contracts. And what's worse barely any of the quest rewards were worth it! It's either a low damage golden weapon, or something that covers enemies in oil. Why the fuck is it even worth doing then? There's only two towns which is inexcusable in this day and age. Like khuddle said, there's realistically only a handful of monsters to fight, every new monster is just a slight variation of something else you already fought. I hated having to walk everywhere too. Those teleporting stones were worthless because you could only fast travel to the main town and where ever you put that Crystal you get about halfway through the game, which is worthless because you still have to manually put down the Crystal to where you want to teleport to, so everything because one long trek filled with fight after tedious fight with a bunch of jabbering idiots constantly blathering nonsense. The pawns were the worst thing about the game. THEY JUST DONT SHUT UP. Even if you tell your main pawn to pipe down they still talk your ear off and you can't control the online pawns bark frequency. The dialog system was horrible because the npcs would repeat every spoken line every time you tried every dialog option. Furthermore all the dungeons look the same and the story is so weak it bears asking why there even was one to begin with. I managed a single playthrough but I had no desire to play it again in new game plus mode.

Anyway, I've been playing Far Cry Primal and I kinda like it so far. It's got a really beautiful setting, with the huge primordial forests and really a lot of love and care in crafting an ancient world. The gameplay is more or less the same as the Shangri-La segments of Far Cry 4. I just would have liked a more in-depth settlement building mechanic like Fallout 4. All you really have to do is rescue people and build a handful of huts for the fancy tribesmembers but that's it. Everything happens on its own. The three extra missions you get for preordering it were bullshit though. One was sorta cool where you fight a bunch of rhinos but it was overlong and the second and third were fucking escort missions.

Come on man. Most of what you mention, I can understand. They're basically japanese idiosyncrasies in game design which are unfortunate and that much more "visible" in a traditionally more western theme such as high fantasy.

But the pawns are the worst thing about the game because they talk too much? OK. Talking too much is annoying, but they're a system and should ultimately be measured based on the systems success or failure as a gameplay mechanism.

As a system what do they really accomplish? The replace normal rpg party members with backstories and personalities with soulless, Chatty Kathy homunculi devoid of anything that I'm supposed to care about that are supposed to give you knowledge about stuff you haven't encountered yet so you can fight more effectively, but all they did was get in the way. Almost every pawn available for hire were chicks wearing the silk g-string irrespective of class. The AI was so bad. When they're not bungling around in a fight they're running around like maniacs picking up every rock and skull and worthless item that's not nailed down telling me shit I already know for the millionth time. I found myself soloing most of the big badass monsters myself because my pawn and the pawns that I could afford kept dying. The constant worthless tips they kept spouting off was the icing on the cake. "Watch out for wolves, master!" as we just got done killing wolves for the upteenth time because be had to go to Cassardis for some bullshit fetch quest. I'm sure the intent behind the pawn system was to show off to your friends that you had what it took to make a level 270 pawn with three star knowledge on everything in the bestiary but let's be real, there's nothing in this game that makes multiple playthtoughs worth it to get there. That has to be north of 500 hours of solid grinding and frankly I'd rather be entertained doing something else. It was nice having a hulking Amazon watching over my smaller, meeker looking player character, but the twenty minutes of character creation is for naught once you realize you just paid money for an incompetent Japanese attempt at a mindless hack-n-slash like Dungeon Siege within the first two hours of gameplay and find out that's all there is to this game. And woe betide those foolish enough to pay for any of the DLCs.

@khuddle

I play games for a living. Which basically means I have to focus on what works and what doesn't, not on what I like or don't like. But that's a different discussion altogether really. I'm just pointing it out so that there's a sense of the fact that I always (have to) try and approach stuff a certain way.

In NinjaStar's first related post, he more or less explains why it's impossible for him to warm up to most japanese examples of game design. In his second one, he is a bit more to the point.

@NinjaStar

The pawns for hire are pawns trained by different players. So, yeah, if the community as a whole can't take training seriously, your range of choices for end up being a problem. As for you own pawn, unfortunately, quality training means a lot of grind. Some people love the grind. Others don't. And there are others in between, depending on the game/case. And there's well designed grind and abysmally designed grind.

But overall, the point of the pawn system was to have your pawn sent off and learn stuff, in the hopes that such knowledge comes in handy later, say while exploring a place you haven't been before but your pawn has. It's designed to be unpredictable.

Now, I'm not trying to make anyone like the game. I just think that Dragon's Dogma is doomed from the get go for someone that I suspect is more or less geared better towards western game design. No problem whatsoever with that. I only think that his part of the issue is a different matter that really goes beyond the game in question.

Let's take Disgaea for example. Chances are you won't like it because of it's legendary dependence on grinding, which is, in fact, ingrained in its "DNA" by choice. So even if it's considered, say, a good turn-based tactical RPG (I don't like it much to be honest - but that's my personal, not professional view), you'd say (not only you obviously) it sucks. Or it could be the other way around, it doesn't really matter. It's just an example of a thought process. I'm trying to underline the disconnect there is between what something may really be and what we actually like or not like.

Lol I had no idea Dragon's Dogma (aka Dat DAWGMA) was so reviled. You guys eviserated it!

I enjoyed the pawn system but also got to play and share with friends that were into the game. I found them to be pretty helpful overall. Obviously any magic from Dawgma came from the gameplay mechanics. It took months before I could return to skyrim and swat at dragons feet until it finally died.

As for the story, it wasn't well realized until after you beat the dragon in which Dawgma makes a statement about gaming and god that's so meta it'll blow the brain from out the back your scalp and into the living room of a you in an alternate reality. It was far deeper  than it had any need to be. Shame they didn't build to it well. I love DD though.
Title: Re: What games are you playing

I really wanted to like it but it just left me flat. The first time I fought a Cyclops I thought 'holy shit this is going to be cool', but a few hours later it was like 'this is it? I enjoyed that you could pull a Shadows of Colossus and climb large enemies instead of hitting them in the ankles like it is in every other game, it's just that almost all of the later monsters are just palette swaps of each other, just with slight differences. That makes the combat tedious and since this is a grinder that's doubly bad. The dungeon design was the same way. Say what you want about Skyrim's combat, but at least the world design was leagues better than DD. Perfect example, every room in the Everfall is the same, just with different monsters. Some dungeons in Skyrim were repeats but they at least had enough nuance to make it forgivable. Skyrim was fun to explore because there's all kinds of stuff to discover that has no bearing on the plot of the game or anything to do with anything, making the world feel more alive and immersive. The fact that there were more than two goddamned towns makes a difference too.

So I finally had a little free time and I started playing (the latest) DOOM. Loving it so far. Great graphics, the enemies look pretty brutal as do the levels. Me likes. The game play is pretty fluid, although in first person view the action can get a bit hectic on the screen. There's a nice little story line that gives the player a sense of purpose as you execute your missions. Haven't had the time to get really far into the game yet, but looking forward to playing it more. So far I'd say the game makers did a great job. No complaints yet (other than not having more time to play it).

Think I mentioned this earlier in the thread... I'm a casual, infrequent gamer, contentedly stuck in the 16-bit era.

I occasionally purchase an old Genesis or TurboGrafx title off kids' Wii. Right now, I'm working on an old Turbo game, New Adventure Island. It's in the side-scrolling Super Mario vein. Like a lot of the Turbo games, it's difficult and progress thru the levels is slow, so it's nice I can save this (non-passworded) game & come back whenever I want, that wasn't really a possibility w/the original consoles.

Game has some cool scenery & challenges, & a lot of these vintage games are good deals/long-term values for $5-$10.

My bad. I thought bobsaget said GTA5, but he was obviously referring to Gran Turismo 5 (which is a great game). I've said this before, but it's worth repeating, Gran Turismo 6 is much better (even though it's nearly the same game) simply because you finally have the option to remove the HUD (heads up display). For 5 games, the graphics were covered up by all the garbage polluting the screen. They FINALLY had the mind to make that an option (something they should've done since the first game).

Haven't played Uncharted. I don't check out many new games as I just don't have the time so I realize my opinion doesn't mean much.

I've been catching up on my gaming. I blasted through the Uncharted games once more to prime myself for Uncharted 4. Naughty Dog really outdid themselves with this one. Everything that was good about the first three games is better, and the things that suck aren't so noticeable. The acting and writing is as always top notch. I haven't gotten all the way through it, but after playing the last three in one go immediately beforehand I got a good handle on what's different, and what's better. I kind of found it annoying at time to have Sam tag along so much because he kind of got in the way making jumping and climbing a bit tedious at times. The combat is refined and better than the last three. The guns handle better and I love how long guns have slings. I don't think many games have that where you actually see characters make use of them which is a neat detail. Fist fights seem a bit harder, but stealth is actually a viable option now as opposed to technically possible, but practically impossible as it was in Uncharted 2 and 3. In fact play your cards right, and you won't need to shoot as much. The chapters all seem longer too. I'm only about half-way through or so, which is especially shocking since the first three only last about a good 6-8 hours if you don't die all the time. Bonus for some, there's a fairly muscular female character in Uncharted 4. Nadine Ross is an antagonist, basically the Dragon to the main bad guy. She's the director of a PMC and a martial arts expert who has a nicely defined musculature. She isn't very big, but the first time you see her, her arms are nicely on display. Shame she's a bad guy, but they wrote her well, unlike Jherii Gallo from Dead Rising 3.

I played the latest DOOM and was surprised that I liked it. The showing at last years E3 didn't instill a lot of confidence. I don't think it's worth a new purchase because there's not a lot to it, but it was certainly better than I imagined.

I've got MGSV: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain lined up. Haven't played them yet. I'm a bit worried about TPP since people say it's a decline in quality compared to GZ. It's the official death knell to the MGS series. Metal Gear Survive is a sad, sick joke and I hope Konami learns from the backlash.

I've also been meaning to finally finish The Witcher 3 and Fallout 4, both of which I let slide. Blood and Wine is probably the best DLC ever made hands down. It's an excellent send off to Geralt of Rivia. I'm a little disapointed with Fallout 4's extra stuff. I wasn't wowed with Far Harbor and Automaton and I honestly don't give a damn about any of the workshop bullshit. Nuka World seems like a cool one with an interesting concept, but who knows. I am glad they added a real firearm in the form of an AK-style rifle because the weapon design is a huge step back from New Vegas in my opinion. I don't like the way the customization thing works and I think it's lazy to shave weapon count down in favor of variations of the same weapon. I liked the fairly realistic WWII to Vietnam-era design the guns had in New Vegas in contrast to the b-movie sci-fi Energy Weapons. I also would prefer different ammo types versus 'complete' weapon customization, which is realistically only boiled down to whether you want a gun to shoot faster or do more damage.

This brings me to Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, which I am also in the process of beating. The DLC are fucking laughable. They expect you to want to buy Praxis kits and credits for some damn reason. Apparently SQUARE Enix thinks what EA routinely does is a good idea. The free 'Tactical Pack' that came with the game is pretty good because of the neat-o Tranquilizer Rifle that makes non-lethal stealth runs a breeze. The game however is great. I probably spent the first ten or twelve hours of the game just walking around Prague and breaking into people's houses and trying to get as much experience as possible before you evenn go on your first real mission. I didn't like the typical contrivance where you start the game powered up and then lose everything and have to start over again. The lip sync is pretty bad too. It's jarring when you transition to in-game graphics to prerendered cutscenes because the graphics are pretty good and the transition isn't so noticeable as it was in HR save for everyone stops flapping their lips weirdly and Adam's fancy DLC jackets don't carry over. The new augmentations are interesting but not all that exciting. The only one I found useful was the remote hacking aug. It's another example of taking what's established and making it better. If you liked Human Revolution, you'll like Mankind Divided. One thing that I really liked was the different controller layouts. I wish more games did that. They're trying out a multi-player thing with Deus Ex Breach, but I wasn't that into it enough to want to try it out.

Ninja, you're dead right about Uncharted 4. I finished it a week ago, and I'm STILL thinking about it (I'm playing Dragon Age Inquisition,
which started out badly but has gotten markedly better after a couple of hours or so). In addition to all the things you mentioned, the
score for the game is incredible, on par with the epic movie/TV franchises like Star Wars, Game of the Thrones and Indiana Jones. I'm hoping
that we get a fantasy/sword and sorcery game that lives up to Uncharted 4's ridiculously high standards -- stunning artowrk, beautiful
graphics, near perfect gameplay and unforgettable music.

So I picked up WWE 2K17 recently and set to work trying to recreate my Amazon Divas from 16, and found out to my dismay that you can't make bodybuilders anymore. At best, they're only able to has as much mass as fitness models now and their height tops out at 5'11". This is odd, because they added the option of having vascularity on your CAWs. The CAW system is simultaneously a step up and a step down from last year. The UI is much smoother and less tedious, its much easier to make faces look better, but I don't like how you don't have adjustment sliders for the body but instead presets ala Dragons Dogma. The lack of muscularity for women is a definite turn off. Of course you can make their breasts huge, but god forbid you want to make Chyna or Asya or your own FBB wrester. Otherwise the game is identical, and the roster is bigger than ever which is great. You have to unlock wrestlers with ingame currency like the Mortal Kombat crypt, so it grants the game immense replay value. The outfits are unisex now, as opposed to limiting female wresters to only wear Divas outfits, so if you wanted to make a female Kane you can, only she's not going to be very physically impressive. The hair still looks and moves like garbage and they seriously fucked up several wrestlers' faces. Cena, Orton, and Razor Ramon look great, but Dusty Rhodes, Alundra Blayze, Lex Luger, Curt Hennig, and pretty much all of the Divas don't even look close. The rest are so-so resemblances that are outright hilarious at times.

That's 2K interactive for you.  When it was under THQ it was better.  I have WWF No Mercy for the N64 and WWE R Vs S 2011 for the Wii and of coarse you could make bodybuilders and make the wrestlers short and or tall/big.

So you can't make the females wear bikini or something like that?

Is Curt Henning is he as him or his Mr. Perfect gimmick?
Title: Re: What games are you playing
Post by: NinjaStar on October 15, 2016, 04:57:12 pm
No Mercy was probably the best wrestling game ever as far as I'm concerned. I agree. 2K really doesn't hold a candle to the THQ days. But even though they didn't have custom Divas at all in 2k15, you could in 16, and then they took away the muscularity option for some stupid reason in this year's editon. It still isn't a bad game per se and I'm still enjoying it, but It just hit me as hilarious that you can finally make vascular, ripped divas, but they can't have any mass.

Curt Hennig is only Mr. Perfect, but several wrestlers have multiple gimmicks. For example, you can have both Razor Ramon and Diesel as Scott Hall and Kevin Nash (but not Kane as Fake Diesel, sadly, or the guy who was the Fake Razor), Papa Shango as The Godfather, Mick Foley as everybody, but not Typhoon as Tugboat or, even better, The Shockmaster. Talk about lost opportunity. Maybe there will be a Shockmaster DLC. I'm also kind of pissed that they dropped X-Pac/123 Kid/Syxx because they have the almost the full D-X stable with The New Age Outlaws in addition to Triple H and Shawn Michaels, and both of The Outsiders. I would've liked the full Wolfpac.

There was a particular Smackdown vs. Raw game (can't remember the exact year now) that I really liked. My favorite part was watching the entrance (that you could customize) of my character. It's really a shame that as the graphics have gotten better, the options for the women have not.

Checking out Mafia III (on the PS4) and liking it quite a bit. The story is really good. It takes place in 1968 in a fictional New Orleans. Back when segregation and racism were still in full force. The game doesn't shy away from it either. You can collect Hot Rod mags as well as Playboy's this time around which is cool. They brought back Vito (the character you play in the last game). I should probably clarify you don't play as Vito this time around. The game is a big improvement from Mafia II, but you can tell they rushed its release. It could've been a lot better with a few simple improvements. There are lots of things you could nitpick about this game, but I'll try to keep this to a bare minimum.

The graphics: They look great, but there can occasionally be some glitches with the lighting/shading. Also the "pop up" can be pretty bad when you're driving. It's much more noticeable when driving on dirt roads than in the city, but I'm surprised the game makers didn't smooth that out a lot better.

Saving: The game auto saves with no option to save it in a game slot, so you can't go back to a certain place in the game. This is stupid because if you want to start a new game, you lose everything.

I was also annoyed that there is only one view when you're on foot. You can change the view in a vehicle, but not on foot. I really like how you can change between the first person and third person views in GTA 5. Unfortunately, only one third person view in Mafia III.

Overall I'd say it's worth checking out, but not buying (unless you're a big fan of the series). Still a pretty cool game though.

The Uncharted series - bit linear but its been good fun. Story is funny and you can't help but like the main character. It's like an easier version of Tomb Raider - would recommend but don't pay top dollar.

One scene in Uncharted 4 where your character is fighting a rather muscular female bodyguard in a fist fight and you literally can't beat her. You just get a kicking for a few minutes then get the hell out of there before she finishes the job.

I'm guessing you kill Vito, considering you kill Tommy from the first game in Mafia II. Kind of a series tradition to off the protagonist from the last game. I didn't really like Mafia II because there didn't seem to be a whole lot to it other than story mode. is Mafia III the same, or did they add more stuff to do this time around other than just collecting shit?

The cool thing this time around is you can choose who you want as allies and enemies. There's Vito (Italian mob), Burke (Irish mob) and Cassandra (Haitian mob). A character named Sal Marcano is the main bad guy. You can take on Sal with one, two or all three of the other mobs. There's quite a few different endings to the game depending on the choices you make. Also, if you ignore one of them long enough, they'll turn on you. It's cool in that respect, that the choices you make can have consequences.

There's more to collect, but no, other than the story mode, that's all there is to it. There are side missions (still part of the story) which you can choose to do or not depending on how fast you want the story to progress. I'm finding the game to be entertaining enough, but it's too bad they didn't take more time to smooth out the graphics a bit better (and add more options). The game play can be slightly clunky at times, but it works pretty well for the most part. I'm sure some of you will get bored quicker than others because you have to do the same things over and over again (killing bad guys, taking over strongholds, stealing guns, drugs, cars, etc.). It's definitely a big improvement from Mafia II, but if they'd really take their time, I'm sure they could make a pretty epic game. Hopefully they will with the next one.

Also playing Dishonored 2 now. The game itself is great if you ask me, but theres performance problems sadly :(

Can you elaborate on that a little?

The game has performance issues, it does not run as smoothly as it should. It also has a ton of bugs and glitches. They are releasing updates so I hope they manage to fix all the issues.

I finished Mass Effect Andromeda. Not a half bad game, WAY better than some of the critics would have you believe.
The people who slighted that game were bascially Mass Effect purists who were upset that the game deviated from the blueprint of Mass Effect 1 and 2. Yeah, some of the facial animations were a little odd too, but would that really stop you from playing a game with tremendous gameplay, deep customization and superb production values? The game does have a LOT of bugs, some of which prevent you completing a side quest or two, so it might be an idea to wait for the Game of the Year edition. But I had a blast with it -- as I said, frenetic gameplay, deep and interesting customization, and high production values sporting truly gorgeous graphics. Recommended.

Yes. Technically it breaks after some use. But contrary to the rest of the weapons, you don’t permanently lose it or have to repair it, it comes back after a little while, think half an hour or so. So, when it breaks, you just wait, you use some other weapons you have until it shows up in your inventory again. You can’t not notice it coming back as the games makes a point to notify you when it does.

Same, been playing fallout 4 but janebod  and bodyslide wasn't worth the trouble for me.  If you google "fallout 4 tigersan muscular female mod" there's a good replacer for female bodies that's more muscular than vanilla- not as big as what you can get with bodyslide, but it's easy to install, just dragging a couple files to a folder.

I've also been playing Conan Exiles a little bit, it's in early access but if you like the base-building of fallout 4 or survival this is basically what the game is about. If you up the physique slider the avatar looks pretty good/muscular, plus the game is very moddable so I'm hoping after its full release there will be some mods to make the character bulk up.  There's already been a mod or two that lets you adjust the bust size and height well past vanilla settings, though at this point the game gets updated so frequently I wouldn't look for too much in the mod department until after it's out of early access.

Games I've played recently:

Far Cry 5: B+. Graphics are amazing, gameplay is fantastic, and the game glitters with personality.
Unfortunately the story is absolutely horrendous.

Uncharted 2 (remastered for PS4): A-. Dated graphics, but holy smokes what a story and what tremendous gameplay.
Even back then Naughty Dog were kings.

Horizon Zero Dawn (Complete Edition): A-. New DLC is pretty nice, albeit a little short.

It's more like Heavy Rain than Beyond. Which is a plus in my book. Gameplay mechanics are the same, as always. The writing is better, the branching is impressive and, other than your choices changing outcomes, they're also designed to change how you personally understand the true meaning of choices that you made earlier on. Also a major plus for me.

Then again, if you've ever played anything made by Quantic Dream and were bored, chances are Detroit won't be changing your mind.

I was a little dissapointed with God of War. Its a very good game, particularly the combat, which is phenomenal, but I felt game could have

Interested in the new Assassins Creed game, "Oddessy", which takes place in Ancient Greece. Will we see amazons?
The old God of War series also took place in Ancient Greece, but we didn't see any amazons in those games.
Here's hoping we see some in Oddessy -- hopefully a nice, bodybuilder-shaped Hippolita makes an appearance!
Title: Re: What games are you playing
Post by: Brand on September 05, 2018, 03:03:01 am
Bodybuilder-shaped NPCs of any kind are highly unlikely in Assassin's Creed Odyssey. I certainly haven't run into any. And I also doubt we'll be seeing any Amazons. Amazons are more probably related to Scythians that resided in a region certainly norther of where the game's map ends. They also kind of predate the Classical period at the end of which we get the Peloponnesian War. Now, well, it's a game, you never know. Hell, Medusa shows up and all. But this is my gut feeling based on what I've seen of the game so far.

I pretty much agree with you Brand. Hopefully it makes for a great game nonetheless.

After a brutally bland August, September and October and shaping up nicely for us video game enthusiasts:

September Releases: Spiderman PS4 (Anticipation level 8: I'm expecting a very beautiful game with some high paced gameplay, cool skills and gear
and a reasonably good story. Reviews have been tempered in their enthusiasm, so I'm not expecting a masterpiece here.
                                                        But a good time? Certainly).

Shadow of the Tomb Raider (Anticipation level: 10. That's just me persoanlly, I just love Tomb Raider / Uncharted type games.
Dramatic adventure in stunning outdoor surroundings).

October Releases: AC: Oddessy (Anticipation level 7: I think it will just be a souped up version of Origins, in Ancient Greece which I'm a little more familiar than Egypt.
                                                Fun nonetheless).

Red Dead Redemption 2 (Anticipation level: 10. Rockstar are geniuses, and this is their first major release in a long while. They are got knock this on
out of the park and into the Atlantic).

Spider-Man is a fine game that does wonders in making you feel and enjoy yourself as Spider-Man, effort has been made across the board, but it doesn't do much to push the open world game envelope forward. But, honestly, no one really expected that. Even so, it's a rare game that makes me avoid fast travel after unlocking it, just because it is forever awesome to traverse New York the "normal" way. I don't know about tempered enthusiasm in reviews. I see high marks everywhere and I gave it a high one too. At this point in time, I can be certain of very few things: the boss fights might be better this year, the world is going to look beautiful (a regular Ubi strong point), music might be just as good and the Greek accents are actually proper. Other than that, I'll know when it's time to review it.

Shadow Of The Tomb Raider...I don't know. They have to stop messing up their writing. At this point Lara still doesn't know how to be, well, human. It's going to be a fine game but since the reboot I'm seeing the same mistakes. Much improved graphics though. Granted, I tried it on an Xbox One X test kit. But I've also seen the previous Tomb Raider on an Xbox One X and this new one is vastly improved technically.

AC: Odyssey. I want to hope. I always want to hope. But damn. Ubi are too set in the ways sometimes. I haven't granted an AC title anything north of a 7 in the last 5 years. And I like the series.

Red Dead Redemption 2: The hype is palpable. I'll leave it at that since Rockstar still warrants the hype. They have yet to spectacularly stumble with their major titles.

It's been delayed to November. And not everything's going to make it to the initial version of the game. Ostensibly, there's going to be a campaign. When doing PR they keep the focus on the multiplayer side of things though so we'll learn the hard way.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops IIII is the one without a campaign but "story elements interspersed in the various modes of the game". I laughed so hard when I first heard this line.

Also Battlefield V in October. Although I'm not sure if it has a campaign or not.

So what? This game is going to be average at best and lousy at worst like every other EA/DICE title. Watching them do damage control after getting 'woke' and scramble to bail out their sinking ship is hilarious though.

It looks like the Slavs are going to have my 2019 gaming on lockdown for a good part of the year:

Cyberpunk 2077's gameplay trailer left me a little less enthusiastic about it. I'm sure it'll be a good game still, but it's not going to top The Witcher 3 sadly. I know there's still work to be done on it, but the gameplay looks a little bland. I didn't like how they make so much about choice but didn't bother to show off the branching paths or consequences of such choices, instead focusing solely on gunplay, which looks mediocre. I don't like bulletsponge enemies. Some of the augs and upgrades look pretty cool though. We'll see. I'm still going to play the everloving shit out of this game because I love the PnP game.

Dying Light 2 will probably be my favorite game this year if it's half as good as the first one. Chris Avellone's writing will definitely help the weak story of the first one. If they don't crap up the gameplay, it oughtta rock crotches with the best of them. Though it looks pretty good from materials released thus far. Being able to block attacks and launch attacks from parkour is a massive improvement from the first game IMO. Kind of curious why they choose to tell you about the zombies rather than showing them at this juncture though. I guess it's a foregone conclusion, but its still odd.

Metro Exodus is another game I'm cautiously optimistic for. It looks pretty good, and the same level of quality as the last two, only expanded. The open environments sound promising as does the on-the-fly weapon customization. Though I'm heard some of the gameplay elements aren't very interesting or good from several sources. Again, we'll see.

Since I was there for the Cyberpunk 2077 demo, both at E3 and Gamescom, press did see different approaches and that's what got me excited. For some reason they're too cautious and nervous about showing it off at all. So they're continuously holding back in any kind of public showing. They went on and published the gameplay video after asking our own feedback from the media presentation and we were all saying there's no reason to keep this between us. Others routinely base their hype train in far less and far worse.

I don't know why they're being so coy about it. If the game is for all intents and purposes playable, I think now would be an excellent time to start laying those cards out on the table. Show, don't tell. I don't want them to blow their load all at once, but the public gameplay video left a lot to be desired for me. The driving didn't look all that great, and like I said, the bulletsponge nature of the shooting segments pretty much discourages me from wanting to engage in combat much unless the balance gets much better the stronger you get and better guns you have at your disposal.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I want this game to be great, I know it won't be as complete as The Witcher 3, so I already don't expect as much, but what we saw was a very inferior gameplay demo compared to others released around the same time.

I hadn't even heard of Cyberpunk, I'll have to check it out.   Just googled Chris Avallone, loved some of his past games so now I'm psyched for Dying Light 2 now!

I'm sure I'll end up grabbing BFV to play with friends as long as it doesn't look terrible, but what I'm really looking forward to is AC Oddyssey, and whenever they finally come out: Star Citizen and Mount and Blade: Bannerlord

Until then I'm wasting time building castles in Conan: Exiles or starting a new character in SkyrimSSE for the billionth time.

The best part of Witcher 3 was the DLC anyway (Blood and Wine) so if the core of Cyberpunk isn't quite up to scratch, I think we can expect the DLC to be pretty brillant.

Finished Far Cry 5 a week ago and currently I'm balls deep in the new Spiderman game.  FC5 would have been amazing but the story was nothing to really get swept up into.  Plus I'm not the biggest fan of first person shooters.  The only reason I gave it a shot was the open world concept that I've never played from that perspective.  While I enjoyed it overall, I still hate playing a game through the FP view.

I'm playing AC Odyssey. It is a LOT like Origins, which was a year ago (not sure what Ubisoft was thinking there), but it is also better than
Origins -- vastly better cutscenes, better skills and combat, and many more things to do. So far I've played two full weekends and really
have only scratched the surface of the game -- probably played 10 to 15%. Recommended.

It took me 104 hours to get through the 4 main story arcs (though 1 of those doesn't really matter much), I'm at 127 hours now and I still have a few tidbits to go. It's hilarious how I've gone through 94% of the map while reaching 99% game completion.

Reviewing this took me 11 days of super long sessions and completely fucked up my workflows. We should have gotten review codes earlier.

AC Odyssey is brillant. Its got side quests galore, most of which involve confronting some mythical beast of Greek lore.
So far I've taken down the Nemean Lion, the Minotaur, and a Cyclopes, along with 4 out of 5 gladiators in the Arena.
With my complete Agamemnon armor set and legendary sword, I cannot be stopped!

I can assure you that the quests involving mythical beasts aren't by default side quests and going against mythical beasts is under no circumstance indicative of a typical side quest. The Minotaur and the Cyclops are part of one of the 4 main quests in the game and the one involving the Nemean Lion really is part of a side quest, essentially one giving you access to the Artemis legendary armour.

I thought the main quest was searching for Alexios/Kassandra's mother? Anyway that was my impression. I just like the fact that the game is based on actual
Greek history (eg. the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta), but that there are monsters and mythical beasts lurking behind every corner.

The game has 4 main quests that are highlighted accordingly, on the right side of the menu, as they become available. It is confusing and one of the 4 doesn't really hold any water in the grand scheme of things. At the end of the one with the mythical beasts (not so much the mythical animals) you'll learn a couple of things that actually matter and you'd expect them to be part of the Odyssey quest line.

Red Dead Redemption II!!!
Great game and very in depth (as expected from Rockstar). Beautiful graphics, the world looks amazing. Has third person and first person view (like GTA5, which I think is cool). New features include having to maintain your stamina as well as your health. Same for your horse. So you and your horse can get too thin or become overweight depending on how much you eat and feed your horse. Different levels of bonding with your horse (and pressing the L3 button when riding can calm your horse when it gets scared). They also added maintaining your guns, so the more you use them, the less accurate they become and also firing and reloading slower. You can cook the meat you hunted and fished (with different recipes) and craft special ammunition, potions, etc. I'm a little over 20% through the story mission, so a long way to go yet!

Speaking my language! Saw a strong woman act at a show. She was "The Great Hortensia" Bent an iron bar, tore a book in half and she laid on her back with a brick on her stomach while someone else broke it with a sledgehammer. Kinda cool as I didn't expect to see anything like that in the game. There's also posters of her flexing a bicep around that town looking even more muscular. Between the fbbs in GTA5 and this, I think someone at Rockstar likes strong, muscular women! I hope there's more fbb's in the next GTA game. With different levels of muscularity and size! Are you listening Rockstar? I hope so.

I also like that it's a prequel to the first game, not a sequel. So a number of characters are back in this one (like John, Abigail and Jack Marston). I think Jack's 4 or 5 yo in this one.

Just started playing it tonight. Stunning. Some of scenery is so beautiful it makes you want to start crying! Not crazy about Arthur Morgan -- kind of a "Malboro Man" robot. John Marston was a lot more authentic. Other that that though, the game is ridiculously great.

Now that's funny Absfan01! I understand what you mean sycamore, but they do give the character some depth. You might feel a little different by the end of the game. Love the game, but a little disappointed that you don't get more money if you choose to go back for the money (at the end of chapter 6). So although there's technically 2 endings, there's no difference in the final outcome.
I saw another show with "The Great Hortensia." She posed a little, balanced herself on a stool with one hand and beat up a guy from the crowd (you can also choose to fight her yourself). I was hoping she'd be in a random encounter or a stranger mission, but it's not looking like it. Even though she isn't really muscular (except on the poster), it's cool they put a strongwoman in the game.

This week I'm checking out the just released mobile game by Supercell called "Brawl Stars". It's a fun little PvP game.
I play a lot of their other 2 big mobile games - Clash of Clans and Clash Royale.

I like GTA's and cars games!
But I don't play often time.

Speaking of car games, I recently picked up Gran Turismo Sport. Best one of the series so far (as you would expect). Same great game play and a lot more fun if you play it with a racing wheel. Much improved graphics and excellent car modeling and the cars sound more authentic. It's a nice touch they added people moving in the crowd. The replays (at times) can look so good you'd think you were watching a race on tv. There is a bit of pop up, but it's not very noticeable for the most part. The only real negative I've noticed with the graphics is certain paint jobs (and depending on the time of day/lighting) can cause a pretty bad glitch in the paint.

You do have to be signed in to the ps network to save your game progress, which can be annoying if the network is down or you lose your internet connection, but it's cool that the game gets updated with new cars, tracks, events, etc.

Im playing BFV after having played most of the past BF games, and its sadly lacking. Its like a big COD, the maps are too small, time to kill is very quick, though they just made it longer with the most recent update. Im disappointed over all, and don't think its worth full price
