Negrita Jayde - 1986 Canadian Championships

What can one say about Negrita Jayde? This competition introduced
us to her. She went on to bigger and better things (caught up to her
again 2 years later at the 1988 North Americans....more sometime in
the future). I'll be featuring other competitors from this event soon -
Sandi Parmelee, Dawne Deeley, etc. By the way, Negrita finished 2nd
in the heavyweight division behind Sandra Blackie. Women's Physique
Publication covered this event back then in glorious black & white.

With sadness, I'm announcing to the forum that Negrita Jayde passed away. I don't know how old she was. She died of cancer. Ironically, it is the same disease that killed her actor fiance Gregory Hines. She was an accomplished bodybuilder and author. I met her at the 1991 Olympia. She was very friendly and talkative. I'll post more information about her when i get it.

Negrita Jayde is a Canadian female bodybuilder. The fiancée of Gregory Hines at the time of his death, she is the author of Supervixen: Secrets for Building a Lean and Sexy Body and hosts a television show on Canada's Balance TV digital cable network.

One of my all time favorites in the sport, stole the show at the '86 Canadians and here as well. She's undergone a metamorphosis over the years and has written books on the subject of fitness and nutrition chronicling it all. A sad note jogged my memory  regarding Negrita, as she was the fiancée of the late Gregory Hines - actor, dancer and a friend of bodybuilding. I recall him in the audience at contests in Seattle, for all I know may have met Negrita at this very show. Let's just call this a tribute to exceptionally good taste! Photos are viewable within each image page. Some sad news to report...Negrita lost her battle with cancer on Aug. 28, 2009. She will be greatly missed.

One of the earliest photos I remember seeing of a female bodybuilder was Negrita in one of the bodybuilding magazines from the 80s. She was wearing the red one piece that she is wearing in the above photos. I like seeing muscular women in one piece outfits and Negrita was very beautiful, sexy and muscular in those photos. When I saw those photos she became an instant favourite of mine. Thank you for the memories. RIP Negrita.

The first time I saw Negrita was in one of the bodybuilding magazines in the 80's. I can't remember which one(I'm thinking either Musclemag or Ironman), but she was working out wearing the same outfit as in the picture below. I was just blown away by the way she looked and I loved the outfit as well. If anybody can find those pictures and post them here, then there will be a definite, well deserved karma for you.
