In a landmark deal, American Media, LLC today announced it has reached an agreement on the sale of the iconic Joe Weider’s Olympia Fitness & Performance Weekend as well as the Muscle & Fitness, FLEX and M&F Hers media brands.  The prestigious Olympia Weekend, held annually in Las Vegas, is home to one of the global fitness industry’s signature consumer tradeshows while also serving as the world championships of several professional physique sports, including the legendary title of Mr. Olympia.

The sale of the event and media assets marks the latest acquisition for Jake Wood, an Arizona-based fitness industry insider whose growing portfolio includes digital media and event properties.

  • This is beyond awesome.  This is many, many layers of awesome....beyond awesome.

As a lifelong fan of female muscle, I cannot think of a better steward for the industry's premier brand.  Wow, just wow.

Your statement makes no sense. Can you make it make sense?

  • The reason why Jake Wood can afford it is because he owns a company that makes hinges for both aircraft and helicopter wings and rudders. He has over 70 percent of the market. That means Boeing, Airbus, Dassault, Bombadier, Bell, Sikorsky and others buy his hinges.

Yes! But all muscle, not just female. It is a surprise to me, as Jake is totally a supporter of the female side, or so I thought.

It is actually quite an interesting spin. Since FBB really got going, in the early 80's, it has been an unhappy "bed fellow" with Male bodybuilding, a bolt on, largely driven by the opportunity to increase market share of supplements, equipment, sports wear, and tuition, by including the female of the species, in a largely male world (until then).

With an ambassador for the female side of the sport now controlling a large franchise like Olympia, and this part of the Weider legacy, who knows what could happen if he makes a success of the new venture.

Maybe Jim Manion will consider carefully the successor to the IFBB Pro League and NPC Worldwide organisations?

Whatever happens, it feels like FBB and the whole women's side of the sport, all divisions, now have a safer future. And no doubt IFBB Elite, who are not great supporters of even Physique, will be watching carefully. Especially as Elite is in fact the true IFBB organisation that the Weiders created.

  • What FBB has needed is someone with $ who likes FBB and wanted to support it.

Given the sport has been around for 50 years and given its ubiquitous exposure on the internet,
you would have to think plenty of guys like that exist.

LOL Yeah, that's not really how money works. Generally speaking, people with money like to hold onto it and most people with money are not going to invest in your business when you take all the revenues and they get little or nothing in return.

There used to be a running joke that the best way to make a million dollars in women's bodybuilding was to start with 2 million.  WoS has completely changed the game.

  • That company's in big trouble. He probably bought for peanuts. He only bought the Weider brand, so any money looks good to the creditors.

  • So far there has been no news of what's going to happen to the Olympia. If the first wave of this Covid 19 has not pass and there is still a lockdown. We will not have an Olympia or any other show until 2021 Arnold Sports Festival or later.

    Did you miss this?

  • Again, without the proper restructuring none of this will move the FBB needle in a positive direction...although, much respect to Jake Wood and his efforts I believe he is a great 'front man' for the cause and we would be happy to work with his crew sometime in the future.

  • I was bummed that WoS is getting rid of its Ambassador program. I know a few women going from wpd to wbb who were disappointed and had hoped to apply for program.
