One thing I have neglected to say is the part that Bill Jentz
I would encourge young lifters to eat well, train hard and learn from a professional. You will benefit in the long run a lot more in that than to launch into creating bulk by taking some muscle-building drug. I never took steroids. Please....don't go there
I am asking anybody out there that can give me some tips on how to transfer a photo to this page and have a photo seen and not just a link. I've tried to click and drag from Imageshack
but what happens is it shuts down Saradas...then it takes me an eternity to get back to square one. I have to get this wired before I venture into attenpts to get what I have which is all hard copy into digital format and here for you to enjoy.

Believe me Greg the pleasure is mostly mine...and if you enjoy it too...great. Imagine being a kiss from 70 yr old ...running across pictures of yourself you long forgot and find out there's folks still interested. That's a HUGE shot in the arm for anyone ya know? I never knew I had fans outside of my immediate hometown. I now have wonderful friends from other parts of the world that I truly enjoy talking with who tell me they were fans way back then. How sweet that is! I appreciate your kind words...

Bill ( my husband) and I enjoying putting together my last set of trophies I ever won...a Maui contest. BB was something we enjoyed together....an adventure we shared. I think all to often I am reading that couples break up and lives shatter because of a bodybuilder's journey that is their own apart from their spouse.
I was not quite sure if you meant this was a bad pose because of the watch but I went ahead and removed the watch in the photo. You could get arrested for that! Is it a gold one?

With regard to what you were saying about training, I figured you meant that when one might have the chance to see a fellow competitor in the gym that they would avoid even saying hello to onewhomthey were going to be up against Ina few months.Nah....(http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640x480q90/841/bbodybuilding026.jpg) (https://imageshack.com/i/ndbbodybuilding026j)

How nany days a week did you train those abs? I guess it must have been a punishing workout or did you just regard the discomfort of sore muscles a small price to pay for bodybuilding?(http://imageshack.us/a/img542/6357/bbodybuilding101.jpg)
Were leg curls that taxing or did you always rest your head when doing them?
Any nudes of this gorgeous woman?I have a few..... I was about 3 months old though.....LOL Nope...what you see is pretty much all there is.

You have a marvelous sense of humor! Not when I'm pissed off with my husband !
How much H2O did you consume when training? I hear some limit their fluid intake when in precontest mode?An only protein diet is extremely dehydratiing..plus I wasn't consuming near enough water. I'd go off the only protein diet once every three days and in that one day alone would put on 10 lb of water !!! (as I recall 1 gm of carbs holds 3 gm of water). My renal studies were a bit over the top...creatinine/BUN. Not horrible...but not good. My ankles were getting swollen...probably from my body digesting itself with protein breakdown...dunno. I was pushing my body to the limit. None of this is a good thing. My first national contest i think i had really lost my mind a bit. I was running in full sweats in the Vegas heat to get more cut ...than cut. That's the contest that I never went to the weigh in...competed as a Middleweight...but weighed 106 lb, lightweight. Dumb huh?
Pardon me for asking but what is creating / BUN?Creatinine and B.U.N. are measures of kidney function. Blood test
When you were training for competition, particularly on the days when you were on one of the days when you were consuming nothing but tuna, did the workouts feel particularly brutal or were you basically looking forward to having some carbohydrates when the day came.Re: Was it brutal?
Find any other past photos from the old days?
No I meant on the days when you were eating tuna was training brutal as you denied yourself necessary hydration or would you take a swallow of water after every set or exercise? I have heard that drinking water plays an important part in the process of cleaning ones insides which is essential in bodybuilding from what little I know.Yah...I spose. The whole BB thing was an adventure. I was pushing myself to the limit and not in a healthy way...and that was without performance drugs...LOL ! As I reflect on it I can say the brutal part was accepting being "normal" once again: eating normal and having a tad of bodyfat above contest level. Trying not to be bulimic. Realizing I was never going to be on the cover of Muscle and Fitness ...or had any hope of being a "star". Geez....that was the brutal part. I DO NOT recommend competition BB to gals for those and many more reasons. Was I unhappy during this period of my life ?....no. At the time it was kinda fun actually...an adventure. But now looking back it was not an easy thing to walk away from and come out the other side...."normal". I paid a price...definately.
I sort of had this idea that bodybuilding was a mentally and physically taxing endeavor. That even when bench pressing was agony, or curling or squatting that you'd push yourself to squeeze out a few more reps before you slumped against the wall with your body drenched in sweat and having to drag yourself to the shower and vowing to continue the ritual the next day and the day after that.Sounds like a bad B grade movie I saw once......(laughing)
I hope that last message didnt sound obscene. Wasn't trying to go there. I just figured that building a physique took major blood, sweat, and tears.Persistance, concerted effort to apply coaching from seasoned and respected athletic advisors, spot on nutrition, rest, diet and cardio with a planned outcome, journals......and natural ability. All together
With your experience as a bodybuilder, did you ever consider using it to supplement your job by working as a personal trainer or was that basically something that was open to successful male bodybuilders? At what point in your bodybuilding career did you feel comfortable with being a muscular woman?Nope. I was what you might consider an anti -social bodybuilder. I didn't particularly enjoy others around when I was lifting , nor was I much into being a coach type....I was a beginner myself...being coached. When I won every single bb contest I entered in Hawaii and as well won every trophy for each best body part in each of the contests. Life was feeling pretty good then...local hero. The glow period was brief.
Sounds like a bad B grade movie I saw once......(laughing)
Another stated that the control by law enforcement of PEDs has increased and the public is beginning to take a dim view of drug assisted athletes.
TIMMON:
"Dispurse...there's nothing to see here!"
That's a side chest view of what were once my breasts before I went from a normal #120 to #106 lbs! (There wasn't much to see at #120 either...relax)

Well thanks guys. That bathing suit I had made by my neighbor. We exchanged skills. I helped her learn about nutrition, metabolism and calorie/exercise in order for her to more intelligently lose weight. She made me the red suit. What funny was all the UNHEALTHY things I then did before I put on the suit.... and posed what I had left of my body. No telling how I might have done that year had I not lost my mind . ( I was also jogging in sweats at night in front of all these hotels with the hot lights) When it was all done and I found out after the contest ( I was busy being stupid...like doing chins in the stairwell on the pipes during the weigh in) ...anyway when I found out I weighed 106 lb I about collapsed....I was a LIGHTWEIGHT ! and competed as a middleweight~ This was my first national contest and my first contest ever where there was a weigh-in. Missed the fine print somewhere on the intruction sheet. Anyway...it was all fun....a true adventure. Bill and I got to stay in Ceasar's Palace.....room looked like a bordello...mirror on the ceiling above the bed, cheesy red velvet-like wall paper. I was way too nutz at the time to appreciate THAT ( mirror above the bed...probably didn't notice until I had a decent meal after the contest....and then of course I blew up with bloat like the Hindenburg).
..........OH ! And then there was the Iodine adventure:
Just before the contest I got all greased up and slathered with Iodine. Baby oil mixed with iodine. Man the fumes!!!! Sort of gives you this browish/yellow color....like you've got an early case of hepatitis. Makes you stink like hell......sort of like medicinal rotten eggs. I spose I absorbed enough iodine to survive a nuclear holocost. That was something the male BBs did....the iodine grease up.
If it means anything, I made some errors in grammar regarding a biography I wrote on Arnold for a book that was published about five years ago called Titans. Well if I did move into that small hut, I hope there would be a tv with an assortment of channels or at the very least, an opportunity to look through those photos and magazines you have saved from your days in the iron game, Alison.Looks like a deal is being formed here! Mooveeguy, you forgot to mention that you will certainly need a "Pillow" to rest your head on as well! That would make for a happy way to spend the rest of your life...

From the past blast. Pre-bodybuilding, before I had ever lifted a weight 1977. This is how I looked naturally without doing anything...but surf.Naturally muscular. I am always amazed how many people believe that woman don't have muscles unless they take steroids and weight train. You are living proof Alison, that women can be muscular having never lifted a weight. It's totally normal.

What were some of your strongest lifts that you recall, Alison?Benched 180 on my 40th Birthday. I wasn't a heavy weight lifter. I did one powerlifting contest, but bombed out when I didn't wait for the signal to start the lift...just took it off the rack and did the lift.....That was the end of my power lifting career.
A strong double gin and tonic !~He he, Alison, Ice and lemon?! Not good for re hydration, but you deserved the treat! Did it go straight to your head?
Have any videos of your competition days?

Merry Christmas Alison!Thanks Timmon...
Aw, thank you Alison. :P You're pretty unique yourself(and I mean that in the best way possible).
That is so nice what you do for your adopted family and nice that they can do something for you in return. 'tis the season and so on. I was going to make a bad joke about Sex and the City but I'll leave that.
If we don't have contact before then, have a wonderful new year Alison(and everyone else too) and we'll catch up next year.
Greg :)
Alison it sounds like you're saying that perfume has aphrodisiac properties. What you're saying about the perfume combined with the progress in your physical transformation maybe you SHOULD try wearing it in town and let me know what happens(if you do actually get any sex in the.....or at least any offers). Your husband wouldn't mind, would he? ;) (maybe your husband can try wearing it in town too) ;)
Remember it is called "Sex and the CITY" and not "Sex and the TOWN" so you may have to save it until you next go to Panama City.
Happy new year to you too Alison.

Looking at the Picture above... Old lady got guns 8)Yup...still packin!
Hi Alison
I usually do not participate to the chats with you here, but I wish to express to you how I feel honored by your presence here, and be able to read all your words about your life and experience, it is really great.
May I wish you all the best for the new year, to you, and those who are close to you.

Dear Alison,I'm overwhelmed.....I tell ya, I walked away from bodybuilding in the late 80's. Never in my wildest dreams could I imagine such friendships to be had in the sport so far down the road when I'm inching on 69 yr old. My leaving the sport was bittersweet and you folks here have made it all new again. Words can not express how very thankful I am for that. Bless you. Hugs Alison
May You Find Happiness
And Life In Everything
That You Will Be Up To In This New Year.
Wishing You Days Full Of Blossomed Flowers
That Will Be Filling The Air
With Sweet Scents Which Will Be Carrying You
Away In The Chariots Of Joy.
Happy New Year

StarNet........Re: Image Hosting
PhotoBucket: On their deletings, you have an option of "public" or "Private". If you elect "Private" They will occaisionally scramble the ID to the photo. Your recipients then find what was sent to them is gone every so often. OK so I elect "Public" with PhotoBucket. Solved that issue (I think)
ImageShack: They have refined their options and you can resize photos real nicely. Their system runs smoothly for me...the braindead. Their platform for some reason does not go well with Miscrosoft Explorer. I find the only way I can open my own account is via Mozilla ...and possible Google Chrome.
Problems with Miscrosoft: I find even use of this site works better in Google Chrome. Mod central suggsted that to me yesterday...and I was surprised at how well it worked. That said I have conversed with geeks that say Chrome has some problems....dunno specifically what.
Porn and why I purchase Premium accounts: I do not want to send a photo to my pastor and have some porn ad pop up (LOL). I have some friends that I sent Saradas to ..(.waaaay back ) and their antivirus flagged images they clicked on, that freaked them out and they have not returned here. That's when I was using free ImageVenue , Bam etc...just learning. Too bad. I purchased PhotoBucket and it's "only OK"....not to be able to resize annoys me.
Image Shack.....I may endure with them. I now have a phone # and I want to find out why I am having peculiar problems when in my Micro. Explorer browser.
I really want to thank you for your inputs. Any others would be appreciated by the peanut gallery here.

I got started writing to some old highschool pals and one was in the orchestra with me. He's retired but still has a Big Band dance band and does gigs....plays sax.
We got to talking about music as I had already started playing piano again. He put a bug in my ear to start once again playing cello like I did in highschool. As it turns out it's not easy to find a cello ... in the Rep of Panama. Its an expensive investment, and few youngsters have that kind of money. Anyway, I bought one used in Panama City and brought it back on the bus...got an extra seat for it. It's slow go...but I am making some music noise . I do believe practice with persistence will bring results.
Gives you a good shoulder burn.
Having a bit of a nightmare with my PC.
Drive corrupted, reformatted, then the back up software started to restore my files, and at the same time it saw that the ones it hadn't restored were missing on my hard drive, so decided I didn't want them anymore and deleted them off the back up! The restore then failed as it couldn't find the files the desktop client had deleted ahead of it. Result = gigs of missing female muscle going back to the beginning of the femuscle era. OdoHerr would be as mortified as I am right now, I'm sure.
Very wise OdoHerr. I find the cloud useful, as I can get to files anywhere, and up to now it has been fine. But I agree you need a balance between local back up and cloud. Local is also vunerable to thieft, fire etc.Having a bit of a nightmare with my PC.

As you say, timmon, I would really be mortified, for sure, if this happened to me.
A far as I am concerned, I have never trusted any cloud system, and never stored any data outside, but on several external drives of my own.

The back up company are investigating, but the positive is that I found an "Alison Archive", by chance, on another old back up system, and these few WPW pics do not appear to have been posted, and link in as a missing few from the original post on page 1 of this thread.
So in every cloud, there is a silver lining.... even if the internet cloud is failing me badly at the moment! Moral of the story, don't trust the cloud, keep local back ups up to date as well.
Just hoping the Back up company recovers the data, can't see why not as the files are visible on line, just inaccessible.

Thanks Alison. No "just me"s please! You have to remember that you were a pioneer in the sport. Whilst you think you were just experimenting, guys like me who didn't realise women could look so fit and athletic, were absolutely blown away by the steady female evolution that was happening in the 80's. Every photo we saw, was more dramatic than the last, far more exciting than these days, where everything is stagnating, and the sport has degenerated into a battle of the "best" false boobs and who has the best surgeon, rather than physique perfection. (not totally true, but you get my drift, implants seem to be a must have in many areas of the sport, and athletes fear they will do less well without them).Having a bit of a nightmare with my PC.Timmon

What a nightmare. How much ya wanna bet they show up. I am honored that you are stoked to have these.....after all, it's just me. That turquoise dress there was one that Steve Wennerstrom let me borrow out of his girlfriend's closet. That was before the stretch one WSP used fore each shoot.

Oh my...I'm a tad flustered. You see there are a lot of gals like me who are genetically "gifted". In those days, we did not have a clue how gifted we were...we just were. Naturals...bearing muscles all of their own. I had not a clue really how natural I was. For all the year I was self conscious for being the beefy girl I was...now ( in my prime ) I was vindicated..and at the last gasp. At 38 I was very late to be anything great. But thank God for the WSP guys....and their encouragement. I'm telling you. The few years I did competition...were the years that assisted me in feeling AOK with me as a muscular woman. Done deal. Now I'm 100% Ok with who I am as a muscular woman. Thank God for womens's bodybuilding and you guys. Thank God...I swear.
The back up company are investigating, but the positive is that I found an "Alison Archive", by chance, on another old back up system, and these few WPW pics do not appear to have been posted, and link in as a missing few from the original post on page 1 of this thread.

Anyway, you were right in there at the start, and I never thought the technology woild even enable us to share casual chat all these years later! So to find these pics of you is a bonus!
The good news for me, is that the back up company have resolved the issues, so I should get back the lost files OK. But, it will take days to restore. A public thanks to OdoHerr, who has been very supportive with his offer to help if I need it.
How many weeks of training and diet would it take for you to get in this condition, Alison. It's a great pic.About 3 months of eating nothing but 3 cans of tuna a day......3 days on and one day I ate salad ( the off day)... So 3 and 1...repeat over and over for 3 months. It's starvation basically getting the essential amino acids by protein powder and the tuna. Uphill running in sweats. Surfing daily. Daily lifting for a couple of hours. The leaner I got the more determined I got and my husband can attest to my becoming very irritable. I worked 8 hour might shifts. Limited sleep. Crazy...esp as old as I was.
Talking to FBB's over the years, Alison, I understand how society makes women with muscle feel out of place (when I say understand, I mean, the fact, rather than what you muscle girls actually go through. I used to wear specs to school, and the 4 eyes taunts etc, are the nearest I'll get to understanding, but I could take the specs off for a while!).
I imagine that this forum is different to "closed shop" bodybuilding forums where the members are mainly bodybuilders "in it together", as this forum contains bodybuilders and fans, and no one shouting you down as a "Schmoe" if you dare mention you think femuscle is attractive, as sometimes happens on the bodybuilding forums. So, great to hear we do offer support and escape from the jealous folk out there in the big world!
A Facebook friend who is an FBB here in the UK has had a rough time this week in the Tesco's check out queue, some guy shouting over ( but not addressing her directly) "Is that a woman, her arms are bigger than a bloke's" or something to that effect. As she is preparing for a competition, that has knocked her down a bit. So I have sent a message of support to her, and it actually helps that she knows I'm not a muscle guy, this is a member of the "public" who thinks she is great.
All FBB fans should be supportive. We know the FBB does it for themselves, but I point out that they do it for us as well! A bit like football, not everyone can or wants to play, but that should not stop fans being interested.
Thanks for the pic Alison.
If you were just starting out today, do you think you would be tempted to aim for Physique contests (flexing!) Figure (no flexing just tensing), Fitness, Bikini.... or work up the FBB level?
What do you think about arriving on the scene today, and instead of being sensationally muscular and in the league of the top gals, finding your naturally muscular physique struggling against Figure gals? Would you use todays expertise and go for a national level physique?
Forgot to mention, 50% of my data is restored so far, thanks to the Cloud. Kira Neuman is being restored, as I write! ( being an A, you were restored a couple of days ago, Alison!).
I've taken OdoHerr's advice, and bought a new back up hard drive for local use, the store guy says the one I've chosen is likely to last twice as long!
You mentioned being irritable with the dieting but was there ever a time in training for a contest that when you felt great physical discomfort? The leaner I got the more (seemingly more) energy I had. Almost robot-like...driven. I did get to sort of seeing stars out in the surf after being too lean for a time. No real physical discomfort. Eh...the usual sore muscle or two...but you get used to that
(http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/320x240q90/685/bbodybuilding134.jpg) (https://imageshack.com/i/j1bbodybuilding134j)A story..... I bought this bathing suit for over $50 which for me then was a small fortune. One big day out in the Hawaiian surf I fell off my surfboard in a fairly critical spot and got flushed all the way to the bottom and got the ass end of my suit caught on the reef. Now rather than just rip this expensive suit to shreds I held myself down there holding on to the coral reel while I carefully unhooked my suit while another wave or two came crashing in. Saved the suit...almost drowned. This was the spot and on a wave kinda like this......(http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640x480q90/607/dscn0182h.jpg) (https://imageshack.com/i/gvdscn0182hj)It is tha maddest of instincts we humans have! Your life or waste $50 on a new suit. I suppose it's an instinctive thing to protect, your suit was your baby, to be protected from harm at all costs. At the time, there is no opportunity to consider the implications, but afterwards, there is time to ponder over the madness of the decision. Yet, in the end, you saved the suit and your life, so the result was in fact the correct one! Funny old world.
Well I sort of thought with the twin trials of training and diet that women in particular would feel like they had gone through a few rounds with a heavyweight boxer.Yup !
Good work Alison. I am hopeful you keep surfing on for many more years. Nice pics. You are pretty darn skilled it appears to me. I've only surfed a couple of times and it was a trial and error experience. Mostly errors. Nice to hear things are well and only one cracked rib. Not bad.

Surf was huge ! I cheated death once again. Helps maintain respect with the young folks out there. Surf rarely gets this big and all the youngsters ( under 40 yr old) are under gunned with boards that are too small to catch the wave. I have few moments to shine....and this is one of them. I feel blessed. Alison
Alison
Yes...that would be me.....(laughing). The fact that I'm strapped onto this little surf riding kayak adds to the thrill factor.Under the water are clumps of lava rock (thus the helmet) that are sometimes unfortunate to encounter....more excitement. I can't get enough.... 6 months and I'm 70 yr old. I never know when the last wave might be my last so I get and much bang I can for my buck !_________________________________

Your surf pictures are almost as inspirational now as your bodybuilding pics were feelgood for a teenage musclebabe fan.
Alison, you are awesome, but you need to post photos that are larger than a postage stamp...
God willing and you could be a centurion Alison. 30+ years for that. Many more women make it than men and people are living longer and longer....though your comment about anything you do could be your last is so true. Nice pics and looking good.My grandmother was born just at the end of the Civil war. She saw the invention of the light bulb, the automobile, airplane, jets, rockets and lived to see a man walk on the moon. She was tough. Even though she had the opportunity to use a washing machine, she washed all her clothes by hand til she was in her 90's. She ironed them with an iron she heated on her stove. ( who irons sheets these days?) She died at 106 years old. I was old enough to remember her stories.
the story about that contest:And a lovely sense off humour too. :-)
This National contest in Vegas was a huge big deal for me. I went with my husband and my trainer Steve Dussia who was as well competing with me in a doubles competition.
Before the contest we were running at night in sweats down the streets in Vegas. I remember sweating like a boar hog as we ran in front of all these hot Vegas lights. We also ran up and down the stairs somewhere in a back hall in Caesar's Palace where we were staying. We'd stop and do a few chin ups on some water pipes in that stairwell. It was insane.
Before the contest I remember lathering up with iodine mixed with baby oil. ( that was before spray tan). The fumes damn near made you pass out. What a crazy time that was !

Alison, I might have said this before, but with that flower in your hair you looked like you created an amazing physique. I gather by the time it came for you to be photographed you probably felt a great amount of punishment.Flower in the hair
What training would you say was the most challenging? Yes I did ask about the dieting part. I sort of figured that doing crunches and other ab work was something that would leave you feeling like you had the stuffing beaten out of you.The daily "routine" of it was the most challenging to me. It could get boring. I was more into surfing....more exciting. My trainer had a way of always creating a challenge for me and mixing it up to keep me "into it". Some folks like the same-ness of the gym routines. Me?...not so much. I never ever pushed lifts to the extreme to where any one exercise was super duper hard.
Wow, Alison, you made that dress look great!
So another claim to fame for you... the founder of the WPW dress! I guess Steve would have been in trouble from his GF, if he kept on borrowing her dresses, especially if the borrower looked better in them, so the WPW dress (es) had to be introduced to save his relationship!
Would love to know who bought them and why! I guess FBB's are not so worried as average women, about being seen in the same dress. The WPW ones lasted for many years, and took quite a pounding, stretched far beyond the limits they were designed for.
My mistake. Ignorant of me, of course Steve would have an FBB GF, what am I thinking of?! No offence intended to his GF, FBB or not.ha ha ha ha ha
Let's just say you both made the dress look great, in the absence of a photo of his GF in it.
Maybe she was a librarian.. in the Weider library of training books!
His GF was Lisa Lorio, or am I mistaken? If yes, she was indeed very beautiful.Yup that was the gal. She had some fame for a time as well. Some new ones on the Lisa Lorio thread worth a look see. Natural beauty. Mega-talent. Sweet Cajun accent ( if you check out the YouTube videos on-line ). Lots of Magazine covers ! ....and lookin mighty good in her early 50's !
As are you Alison, you really rock that dress!
Interesting. Some modern bodybuilders still use some of the old school training methods. Not many, but there are some top names.MacFadden was big on starvation , lots of walking ( insane kind....like from New York to Chicago), raw food diet, before his time on vitamins.

I remember going to a contest promoted by the late great Serge Nubret. Between the prejudging and evening show he had a Q&A session. I remember this guy asking him about his diet and Serge replied "just eat one big steak, one meal a day, just one big steak" I remember the guy turning around looking at me unsure if he was missing some sort of joke. It was a fun show.
Was that pic of you and the other ladies taken from The Female Physique Athlete, Alison?
Found any of those past magazines or pictures that you have mentioned are somewhere in storage?
Alison, thanks for this thread, it is probably the best thread on the forum. I love your recollections and opinions, as well as the old and new photos. You and your husband were very lucky to forge a partnership early in life.
Can you tell me how the two of you met and how your relationship progressed? How did you decide to get married and what do you think is the secret to a successful marriage?

Houston we have contact ! I'm thankful for the SAR.ADAS site for helping me to re-connect with my old friend and trainer, BB partner
and photographer Steve Dussia ! Many decades have passed and we have a lot to catch up on.........I'm a happy camper !

Just for the record, here's a picture....two old friends : Steve Dussia my trainer and I, now 30 years later.
If it were not for SAR.ADAS I doubt we would ever have had this reunion. We spent hours on the phone last night rehashing old stories and Steve excitedly sharing his personal memories of his many years with some of the greats of the iron game.... So many funny stories ~~ I swear he should write a book. If he ever did, it would be a one of a kind. You'll find how a died-in-the wool natural became a champion while rubbing shoulders with some lifting monsters well juiced, many of whom he himself trained. Tales of lifting cars in the wee hours of the night after working a side job as bouncers with the likes of Bill Starr his lifetime mentor and friend....the stories kept com-min. It refreshed the joy I shared with Steve in lifting. He made it so much fun. It was one hell-of-an adventure ...and our motto...."It just doesn't matter!" (" lets just give it a go...and see what happens") We did. Great times !
I just want to thank the admin of SAR.ADAS who assisted me in actually connecting with Steve.

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on getting a 8' soft board for $80. 1-3 foot waves is fine with me.Go for it..you can't lose. The softies come in some nice shapes these days. have fun! Let me know how it goes.
Not going to do any North Shore surfing like you did!
thank you Alison for sharing your experience with us. I really like your insights since I have been following fbb since the late 70, early 80s. you seem to be having an enjoyable life and your husband sounds extremely supportive of you. Thanks ! Yes bodybuilding can be fun...the life associated with it rewarded because of it. I think having kept it natural...and the entire thing in perspective with regard to how bodybuilding relates to me personally was a HUGE benefit. I have had a great life...happy healthy and with a husband I have enjoyed all of it with and continue to do so...is an enormous reward. I have been able to enjoy the sport and leave the "obsessing with it" part of it. That in itself was a miracle. For that I am grateful beyond words.
You are definitely a classy lady in my book and I wish you all the best.
Good old times, it seems like a surreal movie at some point. I think you all had lots of pride and curiousity in your eyes on stage, the young athletes take everything for granted, not much gratitude anymore. Guess I have to buy pumping iron 2 to recall the spirit of the 80s in female bodybuilding.
When you browse through Saradas, and you see miliions of pictures floating around, what are your feelings? What do you think of todays womens bodybuilding as compared to your active days?
I am very much in favor for Alision on stage in the over 50s category ;) Plus pictures and interviews and all that ...
Alison: She never had a choiceYes......I was NOT a happy camper as a teen walking around looking like the hulk.
Everyone has life thrust upon them, arriving in the world with a mixed bag of advantages and disadvantages, not always in the proportions they would choose.
Alison, at a very young age, became conscious; some may say self conscious, that she was in a category of her very own. She was endowed with a propensity for muscularity, not a feature that most girls of that era would have chosen. It’s possible that Alison may not have chosen it either, but then, she never had a choice.
Keep in mind that this was in the early 50’s; women’s bodybuilding was decades in the future, and even men’s bodybuilding was in its early stages.
Fast-forward to the late 70’s, and at an age when many bodybuilders, women in particular, would be hanging it up, Alison and I crossed paths for the first time, when she and Bill came to get a lifting belt. Call it kismet.
She found herself in the process of being convinced, by a total stranger no less, that within a period of months, she would be standing onstage in a bikini, subjecting herself to the scrutiny of a bodybuilding audience, while competing for the title of Miss Hawaii physique. To say that there was a touch of apprehension on her part, when this subject was broached, would be an understatement. I think her first reaction was to say, “I just came to buy a belt” or was it, “Bill, go start the car”. Once we got past that little hurdle, it was “game on”.
All of her preparation was a process of converting individual muscle group contraction using weights, to multiple muscle group contraction with no weight resistance, all the while transitioning from one perfectly artistic position to another, and looking comfortable while doing it. Sounds easy, doesn’t it? As Bill was fond of saying, “It was all smoke and mirrors”. Amazing how some clichés are perfectly appropriate.
It became the focus of all our training that Alison’s stage presentation would be our primary objective. “It Just Doesn’t Matter” was the slogan that drove her training, but we put that on the back burner on contest night.
The rest, as they say, is history, as it became apparent from the initial lineup that the contest was, in fact, no contest. Alison happened. Instead of a competition, it was more like her coronation. Sort of like a debutante ball, minus the gowns. Maybe a little oilier too, but then I’ve never been to a debutante ball…yet.
The months of preparation were intensive, but a distant memory at that moment. Her devotion to the details made my job easier, as I had just tried to relieve her of the need to experiment. The final product was a presentation that would have justified her being a guest poser in her first time on stage, this according to Bill Nelson, Hawaii NPC Chairman at the time.
I am proud to have been part of this quantum leap forward in Alison’s life, where her potential began to bloom into her legacy. I wish her fans on this forum could have seen her at her peak. Alison’s abbreviated career is a matter of record, but suffice to say, she deserved her spot on stage as one of the best of the best.
My feeling is, at her current age, with 3 months of preparation, that she would be highly competitive in an “over 50” women’s competition. OK, we’ll give her 4 months. They have them for men, I say, why not? Alison may have to be cajoled, or dragged, kicking and screaming into doing it, but in the end, would she really have a choice?
Image Shack GONE !!!!!! All the Image Shack photos are gone and as well, I get a 404...site not found error when i try to log in or open the site.
Alison
Alison and Bill,I do hope you have photos of that because I don't remember her. I was most likely "out there" at the time. Yah...we had a dog show up and now is "our dog"...so now I am running the dog with my bike...doing curls...surfing...that's about it for this 70 yr old ex- FBB.
Just on a computer and letting you know I'm still out there. People say that about me a lot, like, "wow, you're really out there". I had another memory for you. Remember when Ginny Hontz trained with us at Deltoid House. She was the January 1959 Playboy Playmate of the month. I laughed when I read the part about coconut oil mixed with iodine for tanning. That stuff would be a good substitute for Mace. I hope you're training, or at least thinking about it.

How did you manage to get through a posing routine early on with the smell of the iodine and baby oil probably being unwelcoming to your sense of smell?Stung the eyes that's for sure. On top of that we took these pills to make you tan I forget what they were called...but you got sorta orange from them. Then there was laying down on the asphalt between the cars in the parking lot to get tan. Amazing I survived !

OK........it was Canthaxanthin pills we took:
How does Canthaxanthin work? Canthaxanthin is a dye similar to the carotenes in vegetables such as carrots. It deposits in the skin to produce an artificial "tan." It might protect against sun sensitivity through antioxidant activity.
Aliison. Have you heard from Pillow lately?I was just thinking about her... No I havn't. I'll have to send her another letter.
Gather a number of those magazines and pics of yours are still in storage.Boy am I lazy.......
Yah...I have neighbors that whine about how much they pay their gardener. They're 50 lb or more overweight and their only exercise is taking the garbage out.....and, they're at least 10 years younger than me. A little yard work gets the heart pumpin.......why hire a maid when you can sweep mop and dust yourself. Movement for heavens sake !

 ALISON, Trying out my new laptop. I finally made the leap to the 21st century. I was looking at a character called Hot Curl the surfers idol, reminds me of Bill in his youth. I put together a sissy squat machine, remember that thing that annihilates your thighs with no strain on the spine. I laughed about the part where we mixed coconut oil and iodine, back in the days when spray tanning didn't exist. Or we used Tanfastic or some cream that turned you orange. Remember Sam Boyd's California hotel in Vegas. No pool and no sundeck, so we flattened out some boxes that bums slept in, and tanned in a dirt parking lot, thought better of it and moved to Caeser's Palace. Maybe bums isn't politically correct, more like Panhandling Americans.Well welcome to the 21st century ! A computer...wow.
Steve
Nice biceps!Thanks
Nice Alison. You look pretty darn fit and healthy! Hope the Florida scene works out well for you and Bill! :rock:Hey Zig... Eh, we're just window shopping around the Ocala, Silver Springs area of Florida. Great prices there...beautiful area of the country. Lots of clear springs, rivers, horse ranches etc. Could be fun if we ever quite surfing here in Panama. So far surf's still happening here for us.

September 2016
Well Zig.....I stay moving. I'm trying to unlock a partially frozen left shoulder using trigger point therapy on myself with some limited success. ( remember that tool and book I told you about?) Every time I push upper body workouts I seem to tweak my shoulder/scapula a bit. No doubt there is some tear in the rotator cuff ....not uncommon at my age. I am able to push the wave ski action without difficulty because all the force is low ( not above my head) . Drag getting old...but it is what it is what can I say? I just do what I can....stop if it hurts and try to evaluate how I can make what's hurt better. Anyway...good to hear from you. Stay in touch.

The waves look really high. You must be a good surfer.Well, better than average back at the time. Now I ride a wave riding kayak designed in Australia. It's sort of a half kayak, half surfboard. Here's a wave I rode here in Panama with that equipment.

Still strapped on to my crazy kayak wave rider, surfing here in the Rep of Panama. Most of the time I'm riding the wave...but sometimes it rides me !

End of snake...and the story.
ALISON
Zig,
We find them in our garage, garden and all around...not often but enough ! Interesting the bite of the small ones are the ones that really can do you in. They lack control of the amount of venom when young...and give you a blast. That snake we got this month was in the same field I cut with my machete. It's right across the street from the house. You really have to keep your eyes open. These are aggressive snakes. Moths balls keep them at bay. I toss them all around the house, house and garage. If bitten you have to nail the snake and bring it with you to the regional government hospital 30 minutes away from our house. That's the only way they know what antivenin to give. Wonderful. Meanwhile i have snakechaps now....along with high top rubber boots. I walk softly and carry a big stick !

Here's another one we got in our backyard years ago. Our backyard is a cliff to a river and jungle...so count on snakes there.

congrats good huntingI used to cut that field myself. Now we get fellows to keep it trimmed out. But here I was chest deep in brush right where that snake was whacked
Wow, great legs!(https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/640x480q90/923/EugCPw.png) (https://imageshack.com/i/pnEugCPwp)
Well. You are: an inspiration to us all, Alison. Congratulations!Keep moving...helps if it's something you enjoy. Surfing..you're not really thinking about the pain in the ass of exercise...it's just fun. Forced cardio when trying to get out of the way of a bomber.(https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/640x480q90/924/MqeVh4.jpg) (https://imageshack.com/i/poMqeVh4j)
I wish I could get in such good shape at this age!
It's always a pleasure to get this kind of good news from you.
All the best.

Have you heard from Pillow of later? Or Lori Okami?
Merry Christmas, Alison. Happy New Year.
Most never get anywhere near embodying this level of physical prowess. Don't be sad. You don't have to look to far to reminded of some who lives took truly sad turns.(https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/640x480q90/923/mzxFXI.png) (https://imageshack.com/i/pnmzxFXIp)
ALISON (I don't look like that anymore sad to say....time is marching on!)
What bodypart do you find was the easiest to develop and which one(s) did you find you had to work extra hard to develop? My back was the easiest...shoulders and back. ( I was a surfer.) BUT.....Paula Suzuki from Hawaii that came after me?....she was a power lifter. What a difference in backs !!!!!! ha ha . It was easy to concede defeat.
I suppose I oft got the impression that abs and arms were the ones which women found they absolutely had to punish to develop.

Still alive and well.

I have been going through some of your photos and your story...truly amazing Alison! I can only imagine what you would have achieved if you had all the resources available today with all the training techniques, equipment and nutrition...thats another level!
I absolutely love your competion physique and are just as gorgeous now :) Your muscles are hard and ripped...I love your smile as you flex and hold the pose!!
I love couples. Wathing them flex their ripped muscles together is beautiful and sexy! Do you prefer couples posing or individual?
Yes alot has changed since then with contest prep...which conest was your favourite?

My trainer and I did the couple for fun when I was training for the Nationals that occurred at that same venue. Both of us moved together with complimentary poses much the style of Grimek. or Zane. That was NOT what judges wanted to see. They were more into big men lifting very thin-looking gals over their head. ( or so it seemed ) .
Gold's Classic was my fav because I got to know Pillow and we both turned out to be on the exact same page.......we both left the sport to pursue other interests. Steroid use was the deciding factor. Neither of us were into it. We stayed in touch for years after.

Alison
Allison...I'm right there with you in age and just happened to see this thread. Didn't really know there was such a thing as women's bodybuilding until I happened to see one of Robert Kennedy's Muscle Magazine's in a drugstore around the mid 90's...and the rest is history! The Arnold, The Olympia and obviously the Masters... Ive attended them over the years now and have gotten to know many competitors and wonderful fans with whom I have become friends .
I And just wanted you to know that if I had the money, you would be my "inspiration" to create a "Super Masters" event and obviously have you be the first lady to be invited...lol! :bravo:
Hi Alison, were there any other competitors physiques that you admired while you were competing?
I personally think Kay Baxter looked amazing!
