  • Some unfortunate news for Chun Ri, translated from her IG:

"After the IFC competition, sudden paralysis came and I could not walk without my husband's help.
I have been diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis because I have not been able to find a cool answer even if I go to two hospitals and finally I go to a big hospital emergency room and I am diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis.
If I can not, I can see that the competition has to be abandoned.
Why did this happen to me? I was sick and tearful, but I could not hear my husband 's face because I was so sorry.
I decided to give up the Olympic Games in Hong Kong.
My husband has been preparing for the game with his outfit, and I wanted to show good results.
I'm OK. But I'm so sorry for my husband.
If exercise is so good. Please try. I will always support you. But be willing to be the best.
I was so sorry for my husband who was hugging me while he understood that I made a hard decision. I am going to challenge again next year and I will put my husband to the good result."

Description of her condition: Rhabdomyolysis is a serious syndrome due to a direct or indirect muscle injury. It results from the death of muscle fibers and release of their contents into the bloodstream. This can lead to serious complications such as renal (kidney) failure. This means the kidneys cannot remove waste and concentrated urine. In rare cases, rhabdomyolysis can even cause death. However, prompt treatment often brings a good outcome.

There is some hope if it's diagnosed early enough: Early diagnosis and treatment of rhabdomyolysis and its causes are keys to a successful outcome. You can expect full recovery with prompt treatment. Doctors can even reverse kidney damage. However, if compartment syndrome is not treated early enough, it may cause lasting damage.

Hopefully she can make a recovery, although she will likely have to ease up on the heavy training at least for now.
