Good job Zonk. I'm happy to see someone else post some pix of her.

lisa isnt married anymore but she is in a serious relationship

Female Bodybuilding Interview of the Month

Q&A interview with IFBB Pro Women's Bodybuilding Competitor Lisa Aukland.

Hello Lisa, Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to talk with us! We're proud to have you here on the website for an interview!

Lisa: Thanks for having me!

Would you please tell us a little bit about yourself? How old are you? Where are you from? Current Residence? Relationship Status? Family Life?Lisa: I was a military brat. My father was an officer in the Air Force and we traveled all over. I have to say I'm from Maryland since I've lived here the longest. The rest of my family is in Virginia, New York, and Norway. I'd love to live closer to my mother and 2 sisters in Virginia. I miss them a lot.

Lisa: I am 51 years old, I am single, but in a serious relationship.

What is your current profession? We understand you are actually "Dr. Lisa Aukland"?

Lisa: My doctorate degree is in pharmacy. I am a consultant at a Regional Poison Center. My title is Certified Poison Information Specialist. This title took extra training and requires national certification. I give treatment recommendations to doctors, nurses and the public with regard to poisonings and overdoses; whether intentional or unintentional.

How did you get involved in the sport of Women's Bodybuilding? We understand you have a background in powerlifting as well?

Lisa: I never intended to become a bodybuilder. I started training with weights because I read Cory Everson lifted weights and I wanted a similar toned look. I quickly discovered I was naturally strong. I started competing in power lifting events with some of the men in my gym and was successful at it. I developed a good muscular base through years of hard work and heavy lifting. There was a bodybuilder in my gym who thought I would do well in the sport and I was up for the challenge. The rest is history!

What do you enjoy about being a bodybuilder?

Lisa: I love feeling strong and in control of the way I look. Otherwise, I don't care much for the industry and many people in it. I compete because I thrive on the challenge of getting in top shape. I do it for ME, not the money (LOL) or the fame (more laughs).

How does your friends, family and the general public react to your physique?

Lisa: Most of my friends are also in great shape, but they admire me for my dedication to the crazy contest prep. My family wants me to train less and spend more time with them! Otherwise they are very supportive.

It seems the general public is very fascinated by a woman with muscle. I get a lot of fitness related questions!

You are consistently in the "top 5" at the Ms. Olympia and Ms. International, what does it mean to you, to be one of the best female bodybuilders in the world?

Lisa: Being one of the top women in the world didn't really occur to me until recently when a friend introduced me that way! It kind of shocked me, but then I thought, damn! I guess I am! I feel pretty lucky to be one of the best in my sport.

Do you feel at your age, you are an example/role-model of health & fitness for women of all ages?

Lisa: Yes, I do feel like an example of how a healthy lifestyle can keep you young. I hear women much younger than me complain about how old they are and how they can no longer do certain things. They shut up quick when I tell them my age. They blame age on how out of shape they are when in reality, they only have themselves to blame.

Would you please share your competition history with us?

Lisa: I've competed in the Ms I 7 times, this would have been my 6th Ms Olympia. As an amateur I won the NPC Team Universe overall title 3 years in a row. That will never be repeated by anyone because now you are eligible to turn Pro by winning your class. I also competed in 2 IFBB World Amateur Championships, adding a silver medal to my trophy collection.

2010: Ms. International - 4th
2009: Ms. Olympia - 4th
2009: IFBB Atlantic City Pro - 1st
2008: Ms Olympia - 4th
2008: IFBB Atlantic City Pro - 1st
2008: Ms. International - 3rd
2007: Ms. Olympia - 4th
2007: IFBB Atlantic City Pro - 1st
2007: Ms. International, 4th
2006: Ms. Olympia - 5th
2006: IFBB Atlantic City Pro - 1st
2006: Ms. International - 8th
2005: Ms. International - 4th
2004: Ms. Olympia - 6th
2004: IFBB GNC Show of Strength - 3rd
2004: IFBB Night of Champions - 4th
2003: Ms. International - 8th
2003: IFBB Night of Champions - 5th
2002: Ms. International - 6th (Pro debut)

There's no IFBB Atlantic City Pro show this year, are you bummed you can't go for a 4-peat?

Lisa: Actually, I DID have a 4-peat! Now there is no chance for a 5-peat.

We'll be seeing you on-stage soon at the 2010 Ms. Olympia, what's it going to take for you to go home with the 2010 title?

Lisa: I haven't made this public knowledge, but I am skipping the Ms O this year. I know it's crazy to be qualified and turn down the opportunity. I was just having so much fun and having such a great summer that I was not ready to start contest prep when the time came. I passed on the contract. It was a very tough decision but once I made up my mind there were no regrets.

What is your current height, weight during off-season and contest?

Lisa: I am 5'4" and usually go 165-170lbs off season and have been 153ish contest weight for the last several years.

What do you consider your best feature?

Lisa: I've been told it's my legs!

Would you please tell us a little about your workout schedule? Contest and during the Off-Season? Does it vary much?

Lisa: My weight training is about the same year-round. The main thing that changes is the amount of cardio and cross training. I lift weights 5 days a week, a different body part each day. I constantly mix up the exercises, never doing the same workout twice.

Do you have a favorite exercise?

Lisa: I can't say that I do. I enjoy most of the exercises.

How do you deal with carbs? Do you carb load? Carb manipulate?

Lisa: I don't really carb load. After all these years I have learned to eat instinctively. If I have a day that I feel depleted and weak, I will eat more carbs that day and maybe the next. The week of a competition I will sometimes do a mini carb load but nothing drastic. If I like the way I look I won't do anything different at all.

Your posing routines are fun to watch, and we know many people enjoy them! We've heard many say that it reminds them of girls like Denise Rutkowski and Debbie Muggli in the early 1990's, do you plan and design your own posing routines?

Lisa: Very cool to hear that! My good friend IFBB fitness Pro Lydia Haskell does my posing routines for me. She helps pick my music and always makes it fun and entertaining.

What is a day-in-the-life of Lisa Aukland like?

Lisa: Depends on what day. I work full-time 7 days "on" and 7 days "off". When I am working it is basically work all night (10 to12 hour shift), come home and do cardio, sleep, get up and eat then train, do more cardio, eat then back to work. My week off of work is a bit more relaxed obviously.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of the bodybuilding world?

Lisa: I have a passion for my dogs, fast cars and motorcycles. I have 2 BIG dogs that I am crazy for. I took my female Cane Corso in the breed show ring and finished her. She is a dual Champion in the ICCF and ARBA. I have taken my American Bulldog through advanced obedience but have not had time to show him.

Ahhh... fast cars. Love them! I took the all day Richard Petty driving experience in Miami and had a blast! I have 2 fast vehicles and both are over 400 horsepower. I just bought a custom chopper; look out!

We recently did an interview with Lenda Murray, she described you as the "total package", and we couldn't agree more with what Lenda said about you! What does a compliment from Lenda like this mean to you?

Lisa: Wow! When I read what she wrote about me I was speechless. I have always been in awe of her and for her to write such kind words meant the world to me. It made my professional career to have the honor of standing next to her on the Ms Olympia stage in 2004.

What advice do you have for women who would like to get involved in the sport of bodybuilding?

Lisa: Be smart, train hard, avoid getting caught up in trying to turn Pro. Do it because you enjoy it.

Who are your favorite bodybuilders?

Lisa: The men; Dexter Jackson and Darrem Charles are my favorites, two sweethearts! Love them. For the women, I love Lenda Murray for her class and style, and admire Iris Kyle for her complete dedication to the lifestyle. I aspired to look like Cory Everson and she was the one who initially sparked my interest in the sport.

What's currently on your iPod?Lisa: Seriously? I couldn't train without my iPod! I have everything from Akon to White Zombies. I like metal and hip-hop to train with.

How can people contact you? Do you have a website?Lisa: My website is easy- www.LisaAukland.com. I can be reached through my website. I also have a facebook page, but I don't spend a lot of time on it.

Thank you Lisa, for taking the time to speak with us and share a little bit about yourself with Saradas.org readers, is there anything else that you would like Saradas.org readers to know?

Lisa: I appreciate all the fans of female bodybuilding who have supported and encouraged me over the years. It really means a lot!
