This is a fantastic lineup! A nice mix of veterans and new faces. And although I think Margie and Helle are the obvious favorites, this could be a pretty wide-open contest. Only three of last year's top six are returning, and 15 of this year's competitors weren't on the stage last year.

Alina is just skipping this year, or she has decided to retire? We'll see how Sheila does in physique now, it looks promising somehow.
I don't think Alina has made any public statements about retirement, but who knows? She works for wings of strength now, and is pretty involved organizing the Romania show along with other appearances for them. I wouldn't be surprised if she's taking a break for a bit.
I think Sheila will do pretty well in physique, I wouldn't be surprised if she's top 5 at the Olympia, maybe even top three.

I'd like to see 2 of the new girls do well -- Jessica Martin and Mona Poursaleh.
They are definitely both exciting new additions to the championships this year. I don't think they have the size yet to do really well at rising Phoenix, but who knows? Bright futures to be sure.

Kristina is phenomenal, and her legs are world class for sure. It'll be interesting to see what her conditioning is, and how much the judges care about that. I hope she does well!

Andrea Shaw looked great in Chicago, and legitimately pushed Aleesha Young for the title. I think she could surprise some people.
Robin posted some photos on Insta**** which suggest her-conditioning is coming along really well, I have her top 5.
I personally don't think Vera will do very well, I think the wings of strength and the judges are really trying to emphasize femininity as they try to bring FBB back into the Olympia. And with all due respect I don't think that's a strength of hers.
So hard to predict where Pauline, Tina Williams,& Janeen will end up, I wouldn't be surprised if any of them were knocking on the door of the top 10, but I don't think any higher then that. That's not a knock on them, but this year's pool is so deep.

Wow… not easy to predict! If there's no political BS, then Margie, Helle, Monique, and Aleesha all have a chance. From what I've seen this year, Helle is a bit small, and Aleesha has made huge improvements, but then Monique is also a monster.
Andrea Shaw looks fantastic, but she's all arms and delts and pecs, her lower body is not up there yet (no pun intended).
I'd go with:

Of course, there can be all kinds of favoritism, and then it's anyone's guess.

Really pulling for Aleesha to do well, but she's got a lot on her plate that could be affecting her prep. She posted today on Insta**** that she just got cortisone injections in her neck from that car accident she was in last month. Can't imagine going through the hell that is show prep with a bad neck! If she ends up not placing as well as many of us think, that unfortunately could be the reason why.

There was a time when, the high-quality accounts of these contests "flocked" to the web thanks to our friends. USAMuscle Women was doing a good job but they seem to be focusing on re-editing old NPCs. Good for them and for those like us who love memorable NPCs. But, one in the other, for the most recent competitions it's a shame. Is there any problem with rights and big money?
Besides it is also a pity not to be able to download the Mythical Miss Olympia. GMV offers some, only on DVD. When Miss Olympia 1991, 2009 and so many other masterpieces will they be remastered ready to be downloaded...

Those are just others I was talking about, The Untraceable Downloads, including the Olympias of: 1991, 1993, 1995-1999, 2002-2014. And especially 2009! I've got 1999 Miss O from WPW, but does there exist another version with other angles?
I already had the oldest in VHS, in a deplorable state. But remastered, it must be great to rediscover them in very high quality, do not forget the bonus-rushes-forgotten scenes... They must have some hell of a piece of equipment in the studios. How not to market, to grow all this on the web in an immaterial way, these would be undeniable resources for the Female Bodybuilding - only if, well redistributed. But, as they say here, "there's money to be made" for them, and a lot of joy to give to the fans, right?

Silvia and Barbara are also not on that list, but if you look on Insta**** they are both still planning on going. Helle was left off of the Tampa Pro list up until the last moment. So unless Aleesha announces something herself, I think it's more likely than not that she'll still be there.

No, Amanda didn't qualify, that's another error. Her name is on both the bodybuilding list, and the physique list. Pretty sure she's just competing in physique, and they copied her name on the bodybuilding list by mistake.

We don't know how invitations are awarded! There are big absences. But then: what interest has a championship, and its system of points, whose laureates, or points-winners, are not fully represented in the Grand Final. Let's hope we don't get to promote a Masters where players between 7th and 12th place are missing, and then the 30ths would be invited to fill the defection. I have nothing against Farah Faulkner and Amanda, but there are many priority contenders in the Hierarchy of Female BB. For the first mentioned, I don't see who she is right now, oh, yah, i see… and for the second, it's as if an asteroid is coming... but it will not do any damage, it will disintegrate in the atmosphere ... I mean, for Amanda, I'm afraid she's coming out of shape like those predecessors in a certain Recent Comeback, and for both, what are they doing there and why not others? To replace Vera !!?? They won't be two enough to hide her scale... lol
I hope that the registrations or invitations will not end there. That was the case in the last Tampa, so the hope is safe. As for Aleesha, let's not forget her accident, which unfortunately makes her absence that we will all regrede, and quick regablissements Delicious Aleesha, courage and strength!

Doesn't all this hide an eternal tendency to return to less muscle, or, failing that, fewer hardcore muscular competitors? I ask the question, reassure us by proving ourselves otherwise. Nevertheless, the list preserves our Magnificent Muscle Goddesses as expected and still reserves us - good - surprises...

Well, that certainly is a bold prediction, patchAu! But I think this will be a show full of surprises, so maybe the winner will be a complete surprise. I appreciate all the work that went into those calculations as well. Pretty good proof that Margie is the favorite. I wonder if it is possible to bet on this show? Indeed, the final list of glad elected! For God's sake, what a frustrating bad suspense! Listening to The Beatles' It Won't Be Long, in order to hold on Clash of the World's Most Muscled Women at the T. moment, why not a little prognostic on the different "Battles" that will be to be conducted.
For the thighs I forecast well,
1st Margie Marvelous. Insane. A her maxi indethroned in terms of volume and definition. Can we be more monstrous with such quads and adductors.
2nd Helle Trevino. For her buttocks streaked like two flints, and these calves ... In the end, the physiognomy in its details and the general shape.
3rd Jocker Vera, whom I would love to see!! A double risk given her potential absence and her "bad press", I know well, but it's stronger than me, I'd like to see her, overmuscled, and made up like a princess, create The Surprise!
4th Monique Jones risks exploding her thin skin with quads... or is it in danger of exploding the evening competitors.
5th Aleesha, Jocker 2, in the same order of perspective. Without looking too much, she has already been able to show well sculpted legs and buttocks, both little-big bulging and striated.
6th Pauline Nelson. Could she burst everyone with superhuman vascularity and overexcited adductor-pubis over-exciting?
7th Kristina Mendoza, how to forget it! Could she, too, knock everyone out !!! The latest peaks attest to the discovery of another continent!!

1st Andrea could present two huge ripped masses animated by the freshness and audacity of her smiling youth. Insanely beautiful.

3rd Vera Again. Real Pure Huge Pecs.
4th Pauline Nelson. Authentic and huge pectorals filled with veins! Hardcore. Insane.
5th Aleesha could put everyone in agreement by hardening them to the extreme because the volume is already to be resold.

How do you want to encourage her? From her competition clips which are on the internet, it looks as she always had huge muscle mass, much more than anyone else competing with her, but lacking the conditioning which these days judges want to see.

the most muscular dont be in the final 6 :what: Monique in the 5th place i think she be in 4th place or 3th place Margie in 2th place its fine Helle was more ripped simetry and mass now she and Margie are a twice Champion Kristina she have a great mass only need more defination and organization conciderate for made class for height and weigth Irene,Robin,Monique,Nicki are tall in compariton of small girls look skiny but put Monique, Irene,Nicki in the top 6 was good.

I’m happy for Irene Anderson. She’s been competing for a long time and it seems like she never finishes higher than 7th or 8th at these big shows.
I think she’s 52 or 53 and she was in the best shape of her life at this show. She has a big/long frame that she never seemed to be able to totally fill out, but this was probably the closest she’s come to actually doing that.
She beat a lot of women have been placing ahead of her for many years now. Congrats to Irene.

I have to agree. Her quads looked like she needed to push out some water. And she really need to work on her back. She has next year to make her improvements.
It's almost as if the 15-20 year head start other women have means nothing. Kristina is only 27 years old. Check back with me in 7-8 years.

Margie could have been tighter… there were some women who didn't look ready for a show of this caliber… and geez, I had to wait for what felt like half a day for all the Fitness, Wellness, Spa, Figure, Shape, Form, Silhouette, Bikini, One-Piece, Heels, etc. divisions before bodybuilding… This proliferation of classes is a travesty!

I haven’t posted anything until now because I was also at the show! It was an awesome event, I definitely recommend going if you can.
So many things that I could say, but here are a few things off of the top of my head:
- I agreed with Helle being the winner, but I went back-and-forth several times in the pre-judging. Two fantastic champions with different physiques. Also, I think it’s great that we can go into a contest not knowing who is going to win.
- I have a strong suspicion that the advice given to the competitors by the judges and by wings of strength that they were going to reward fullness and femininity, and that it was better to come in under conditioned than over conditioned. They definitely still rewarded conditioning, which is why Helle and Irene did so well, but I think many of the ladies decided to be cautious in that area?
- Monique Jones was in a class by herself when it came to size. As much as I love Aleesha, I was stunned when she got most muscular, and not Monique. I do think fifth place was the right spot for Monique , she came in a little soft and a little top-heavy. Her symmetry was still very good, but her shoulders and back are so massive that it’s hard to build legs that keep up.
- Andrea Shaw is just awesome. Future star to be sure. :heart:
-Kristina Mendoza came in with a disappointing package, her conditioning looked worse than Chicago, which shocked me. But it was still a thrill to see her on stage, and I’m sure she’ll be better next year.
- So many of the ladies are super nice in person, though it’s best to approach them after they’ve eaten, LOL. During the posedown they were super appreciative of those of us who were cheering loudly, and many were very approachable at the after party.

@freudian1. I maybe was not at the event like you, but following from far away, my conclusions are somehow different:
1. Conditioning, conditioning. This is still the holy grail of everything for the judges.
2. Muscle mass being punished. Monique Jones' legs may not be her strongest part, but so they were last year in Romania where she won. The only athlete in the world that can match huge shoulders with her legs is Nataliya Amazonka, but i really doubt that judges would reward her for that, given the current regime.

It's wonderful to hear so many different opinions from people who were at the show, but the greatest thing is that you were present. I know to a certainty - this I am reporting from firsthand accounts - that MOST of the women bodybuilders love the true fans of bodybuilding who come to their shows. It's one thing to be an internet fan (and they understand it is not possible for most people to travel to Phoenix), but the guys who arrange flight tickets and hotel and show tickets to see them compete are held in a high esteem by the competitors.

@freudian1. I maybe was not at the event like you, but following from far away, my conclusions are somehow different:
1. Conditioning, conditioning. This is still the holy grail of everything for the judges.
2. Muscle mass being punished. Monique Jones' legs may not be her strongest part, but so they were last year in Romania where she won. The only athlete in the world that can match huge shoulders with her legs is Nataliya Amazonka, but i really doubt that judges would reward her for that, given the current regime.
@birmi482. I respect where you are coming from. I don’t fully agree, but let me clarify what I mean.
1. I agree that conditioning remains extremely important to the judges. But it’s not everything, otherwise Irene (who have the superior conditioning) would have placed higher than Margie. Pauline Nelson had standout conditioning and incredibly grainy skin, but got 13th.
I still think the current messaging to the competitors is that they won’t _win_ a show without great conditioning, but they can still do really well with solid conditioning and focusing on other elements of their physique.
Even though it’s a different category, I think it’s interesting to look at what happened in women’s physique at rising Phoenix. Natalia Coelho the defending champion and showed up with insane conditioning like she always does. But they gave her second place and gave the title to someone who had more fullness, but nowhere near the same level of conditioning.
2. It’s hard for me to agree that muscle mass is being punished when the top five places went to five of the largest women in the show. Helle is 17 pounds heavier than when she won in 2017 and they still gave her the title. If your viewpoint is that the title should go to the most massive competitor then I can get why you would be upset, even though I don’t think that’s ever been the way winners have been picked. I love the girls who get massive as well, Monique‘s upper body was the single most impressive spectacle I saw all weekend. And yes, the judges don’t love size the way we do. But they seem to appreciate it.
Ask for Natalya Amazonka, it’ll be very interesting to see if she brings pro level conditioning to the Romania stage, and who else shows up to compete. i'm optimistic they would reward her.

@freudian1. Thanks for your comments. Yes, i may be biased towards muscle mass and Nataliya Amazonka, but I am not alone, 500K followers on insta seem to substantiate this. For offseason her muscle mass plus definition is just unbelievable, she is offseason more defined than all other FBB having by far the largest muscle mass !!!! But we speak about competition and I really doubt that her conditioning in Romania will be anything close to the top girls in Tampa. If you compare her body in last year's Romania show where she won as Amateur, to the Pros at rhe same event which was won by Monique, the difference was extraordinary. She was so much larger then the Pros with so much more muscle mass that even Monique looked tiny next to her, but her conditioning was so much off the marks that she would have probably placed last at the Pro event while all the fans were completely taken over by her size and proportions and she would have won any fan contest. So who was right in Romania, fans or judges? This is exactly my point

I haven’t posted anything until now because I was also at the show! It was an awesome event, I definitely recommend going if you can.
So many things that I could say, but here are a few things off of the top of my head:
- I agreed with Helle being the winner, but I went back-and-forth several times in the pre-judging. Two fantastic champions with different physiques. Also, I think it’s great that we can go into a contest not knowing who is going to win.
- I have a strong suspicion that the advice given to the competitors by the judges and by wings of strength that they were going to reward fullness and femininity, and that it was better to come in under conditioned than over conditioned. They definitely still rewarded conditioning, which is why Helle and Irene did so well, but I think many of the ladies decided to be cautious in that area?
- Monique Jones was in a class by herself when it came to size. As much as I love Aleesha, I was stunned when she got most muscular, and not Monique. I do think fifth place was the right spot for Monique , she came in a little soft and a little top-heavy. Her symmetry was still very good, but her shoulders and back are so massive that it’s hard to build legs that keep up.

After a while I came to feel that bodybuilding shows were basically conventions for people in the industry. If you are not a bodybuilder, promoter or photographer or someone who knew someone in the show..... well, you were tolerated but not much else. Just buying a ticket was not enough. Most of the time the best an average fan can hope for is a few pictures. And most of those will be of the women onstage.
I'm not saying I ever expected anyone (women in this case) to drop to their knees and kiss my feet :::Oh you are a fan?! Here let me fluff that pillow for you:::: But you try to talk to them and they let someone (another bodybuilder, promoter, photographer) interrupt then they walk away like you were not there. Or (some of them) make you feel like a creep or stalker because you wanted a picture of them. After a few years of that you get the message.
I really hope things are changing for the guys who go to shows. My (admittedly uninformed) view is that anytime the ladies say anything good about the fans is the exception. If they acknowledge the fans at all.

I'm bummed to hear that what you've shared here are primary memories of going to shows and since you were actually present and experiencing this, I wouldn't consider you uninformed at all. I know exactly what you're describing and yes, there was always this layer of participants and enablers who held an undefinable animosity towards "just fans" of female bodybuilders. Photographers and promoters and "managers" were often in on it, too. But if you ever got a chance to attend the Jan Tana - especially the banquet - there were really cool times sitting down and breaking bread with the stars of the show. And now, it seems those days are here again on the bodybuilding side.

IMO, many many thanks for expressing your frustration, which I fully share. I have been to two shows only, I must admit, travelling all the way from Europe but, as a fan, I felt completely neglected and even ridiculised at times, just for not being in the industry.
I really wonder where this industry makes money. Probably not with the general public.

I'm not going to question anyone else's bad experiences, and of course it goes without saying that some of the competitors are approachable in their personality and some are not.
I think it's worth reminding ourselves that in professional sports, it's extremely rare for fans to have any kind of substantive contact with the athletes on the day of competition. So I think we are a little bit lucky in the access that we do have.And personally I'm a little amazed at that when they are dieting, starving, and focused on competing that some of them still have the patience to chat with complete strangers. I'm not sure that I would.
I feel pretty certain that the ladies do appreciate those who buy tickets and come to the show.But for most of them, it's not the fans at the show who pay their bills. It's the photographers and promoters who give them paid shoots and drive their Internet traffic. And some of them have relationships with the ladies that go back for years. So I'm not surprised that's who they talk to, or that they also prefer to other people in the industry. They've built their lives around working out, it's not surprising that they're more comfortable with other people have a similar outlook. And also, we have to face it, some of us fans ARE creepy. Not many, but it doesn't take much to make people wary when stranger after stranger is coming up to them.
That said, even if you disagree with everything I've just said, I think we can all agree that Wings of strength has made it WAY easier to have a good fan experience. It's a brilliant idea to have their merchandise table staffed by popular women bodybuilders who aren't competing that day, but are just there to meet fans and sell T-shirts. At the Chicago show, I got the chance to have a good 15 minute conversation with Helle Trevino-it was the highlight of my weekend. When I saw her again the night before rising Phoenix, we spoke for about 30 seconds and then she moved on. She remembered me, and thanked me for coming, but she was in competition mode- and I don't blame her for one second, even though of course I would have loved to chat for a long time again.

Please tell me you didn't stay on you balcony.

There was no balcony, I took the photos from the window of my hotel room on the 6th floor, using the digital zoom of my camera. Luckily you can't notice it, but there was also the glass of the window, which could not be opened... too hot outside in Arizona! I'm quite sure no one noticed me.
I felt like a kind of shmoe version of the character played by James Stewart in "Rear Window" by Alfred Hitchcock! :cool2:
