A couple European girls told me they moved or considered moving to Dubai because of lifestyle and tax benefits. Apparently, they can become tax residents of Dubai and their personal income tax is greatly reduced. There are Americans who think they can set up residency in Dubai to avoid U.S. taxes, but U.S. citizens are taxed on all worldwide income. We can claim foreign tax credits, but as long as one holds U.S. citizenship and earns income, a U.S. tax return is required.

For Americans, the only way around that requirement is to renounce one's U.S. citizenship. Most expats and would-be expats are not willing to give up that U.S. passport. It's expensive to keep, but the power is too much to give up.

I believe Helle Trevino, sometime within the last year or so, has also moved there as well. She doesn't do sessions, but if we're talking about FBBs, that's another one, and a fairly big name at that.

Does anybody know anything about the Islamic culture of the UAE . . . my guess, and it's only a guess, is that Islam is so repressive that they'll react sex and fbbs the same way the Revolutionary era Protestants or hardcore Catholics have in the past to sex . . . deny it publicly, but schmoe out in private.

UAE has 4 different cities among which Abu Dhabi and Dubai are the most popular. Abu Dhabi though the more prosperous city is a little conservative while Dubai is lot more liberal. Both these are Islamic cities and yes they do have their rules especially during the month of Ramadan. But having said that Dubai is turning itself into the most popular tourist destination where you get to relax and party. For the West Dxb is relatively cheaper than holidaying in Europe/America vise Verasa. The Senior Management jobs pay well and the culture is great. You also have no tax which makes it lucrative to settle down once you want a more peaceful life away from jobs / stress.

Thanks for the info. When someone mentioned that people were moving to this country, I wondered what's the appeal for Westerners? Why would they want to pack up and move to a country thousands of miles away, with a different culture from theirs? Then someone mentioned money making opportunities and no taxes. I was also curious about the religious standards, especially for women, but you confirmed they're not as strict.
