For me, Anja was recognizable for her arresting beauty and symmetrically appealing physique. She had beautiful muscles and one of the best well-balanced bodies in female bodybuilding history. A living masterpiece built for what bodybuilding competitions were meant to be, a display of physical perfection. Art in the flesh. While not knowing her to be massive, her 1988 Ms. Olympia showing was remarkable. Her balanced physique creates the illusion that she's smaller than many of her rivals, yet when in the top 5 comparison, she is clearly one of the more muscular and wider women in the line-up. The width and thickness of Anja's delts, which reminds me of a Figure girls exaggerated shoulder development to create a Y taper, looked to be on par with Bev Francis', if not, wider and thicker than Bev's. Moreover, she had the biggest and roundest glutes in the group.

I love Cory, because of a feature she had in a '92 Musclemag issue, I realized my strong attraction for muscular women. However, I would have preferred Anja to have won the '88 Ms. O. Like Iris, Cory had to go out with a bang, right?

Perhaps if Anja had won, she could have been marketed as the ideal look for what the IFBB envisioned for FBB (if they had any vision). Anja then is what Physique is today.

Her muscle shapes, mass, and physical beauty were unmatched. I saw some relatively recent photos of her and she still looks amazing. Kathy Unger was another one of my favorites from the WPW days.
