Why the move - somewhere new to surf?  Hawaii always looks so good on TV, but then that's only from watching 5-0.

Why the move - somewhere new to surf?  Hawaii always looks so good on TV, but then that's only from watching 5-0.

Cost of living.   A desire to retire from work.  That would not have been possible if we stayed in Hawaii.  Surf here in Panama is great for us...plus we have the benefits of a lifetime visa and all the benefits Panama affords their elderly.  For example we always get 50% off on hotel rooms when we go to the coast to surf every month.  Panama is a great country to retire to.

When Bill and I were young in our 20's his good childhood friend went backpacking on the cheap to Columbia and returned with photographs.   It looked so exciting and adventurous to us we decided to save our money and do the same thing.  Long story short is we ended up actually buying a mountain cabin ( no electricity nor running water ) for $1600.00 and lived in Columbia for almost 2 years.  In time we needed to return home, and settle in as adults with jobs.  We decided to go to Hawaii to live. We had started surfing while in South America.  We got night jobs and surfed every day.  BUT...we always had in the back of our minds a return to Latin America one day.  In 2007 we did that.  We made the decision to sell everything and retire South of the Border.  We now have the best of both worlds: surf, great gym, a beautiful house, cool beautiful mountains and as lower cost of living.  It' a a  sum of our life experiences.  Great people. Great quality of life here in the Rep of Panama.    For us, the best ever in our lives !.

You and Bill seem like a great couple. Shame it's so difficult these days to find a partner to share amazing adventures with and discover new passions together. Moving south of the border was definitely a wise choice; in fact, the best choice. I hope to one day discover my paradise as well. Who knows? Maybe, it'll be right here in the U.S. or in another country. I'm patient.

Having the same desires, and tastes as well as athletic interests...plus a joy of travel was cement that has kept us enjoying life together all these years.
