Title: Tattoos

Just voice your opinion and vote. No pictures or other visual aids are needed.

Not really enough category options....

For instance I don't find women with tattoos MORE attractive, but likewise I don't find them particularly LESS attractive either....it depends more on the tattoo design....needs to be a "no difference" tick box.

Same with "Whats your opinion on big tattoos" section, should be "Makes no difference" category.

I may have missed the point you are making djstevec, but the question is whether  a tattoo makes the woman more attractive or not. There is no question asking if a tattoo makes a woman less attractive. So in your dilema you would just vote "no" , because you don't think they make a woman more attractive.
in this poll, it would be a given that you are not saying that tattoos make her less attractive, as that question has not been asked. A makes "no difference category" would give 2 chances to vote no!

There should be an option for no tattoo at all. I don't fancy putting tattoos on  any part of the body at all.  It distracts from that natural beauty a woman is suppose to have.

I stare at women without tattoos longer but those with tattoos turn me off.

To my opinion, tattoos prevent from appreciating the actual lines of the body.

I am a strong believer in to each their own...that said I don't care for too much tattooing on women. Totally my personal preference, but it takes something away in my opinion.

Not a fan of tats of any kind. If it's big enough, it takes away from the display of muscle which is what bodybuilding contests are supposed to be about.

I'd likely be more into Melody Spetko if she didn't have that huge tattoo across her chest.

NO
Just no.

Bodybuilders are beautiful human sculpture. They shouldn't ruin it with somebody else's lousy graffiti.
It's like a house full of clutter,and bric-a brac.Visual trash.
It seems like everyone is trying so hard to be unique...by copying the crowd. It just doesn't make the impression people think it does.
Regarding the judging;it should count against a competitor.Skin should look healthy, and attractive on a physique athlete.
But they won't have the guts to stand against something popular.it might cost the contests entrance fees.

NO for me too.
I am very sad when I discover an fbb has chosen to tattoo. Except for very little spotty tattoos not hiding the shape and the simmetry I am not for them. But many fbb perhaps consider them a part of their personal transformation. I has to be tollerated, I think. But I don't like.

Slightly contentious I guess, but personally I get turned off by tattoos and IMHO, I think it takes away from bodybuilders raison d'etre which is to maximize and accentuate the aesthetics behind their hard built muscles (physiques)....I don't mind Denise Rutkowski's ankle tattoo which is barely noticeable but sleeve tattoos for example would make the most beautiful woman, horrendous from my modest point of view...just an opinion!

tats don't add anything, especially to a muscular woman.  the irony is that tats were typically signs of subjugation, i.e. imprisonment, internment, concentration camps, etc.  now they are just empty signifiers.

the late 80s FBBers were the pinnacle - no tats, few with implants - and increasingly with time those physiques seem unimaginable now.  Pretty much any younger woman into physical culture now will also be susceptible to tats.  An exception who reminds me of that golden era is Chelsey Coleman, and I think even she has one (though I think it's hardly noticeable, not least bc the rest of her is so glorious).

Bottom line is I'm too old...

I agree !  while i'am not against them all , a select few have them done tastefully . But sadly most are taken to the extreme for the sake of it . Find it interesting that something that came from the prison culture ..   is now so widely adored .

You don't have to convince me. I remember posting some pictures or clips of Melody Spetko when she first came on the scene. To make a long story short, you was on one.

I hate tats. Nothing personal against any woman that chooses to have them or anything. I'm not of of those people that think they are the Devil's work or any BS like that. They are a huge turn off for me though. It's like putting a bumper sticker on a Ferrari.

For me if the tattoo suit her and is not trash it's sexy. As for competing with a tattoo it's not helping you but there's life after competing and outside the stage

I don't mind some tattoos as long as they look good and they're not huge.  But a lot of FBB's these days get full sleeves and that detracts from their physiques big-time (like Jacquelyn Hickerson, for instance) .

I like tattoos on men more than women. I've seen some bodybuilding men with strategically placed tattoos to not take away or even used to accentuate muscles. Pretty impressive stuff

No tattoos whatsoever! I can deal with a subtle one, but when all those tattoos are applied, its so unattractive to me. Call me old fashioned but I like my ladies without ink. Classic example is Katka Kyptova. She now has ink and its so unattractive. I still watch her old videos and she's so much sexier w/o them. FBB's who go all out and get inked up, to me, become less appealing.

BB is about aesthetics to some extent. Tattoos are a negative. I have never seen a woman who I thought could improve her looks by adding a tattoo. Tats only detract, they never enhance.

The thing about tats for me is that they obscure the muscle.  The littles are okay for that reason. I could take 'em or leave 'em. But the big ones are aesthetically a bummer. And then there are the ones--Rene Campbell's neck tattoos come to mind-- that just freak me out. Maybe they call it scarification for a reason.

Mandy Squires is a good example of the contrast. One arm is a sleeve and the other is almost bare. I can see veins and muscle separation on the unblemished side, but can't make out anything where the tats are obscuring it. Also perceive the bare arm to be bigger, because I can make out the shape, whereas the other looks flat.

These results are surprising. I know the sample group is small and biased, but I thought there would be a higher percentage of positive responses.

I gotta vent on the whole tattoo business in this sport.  I have no problems with a tat or two but now its seems the rage to go get sleeves or circus freak almost whole body tattoos.  Sure, it’s the woman’s choice, but its starting to go overboard.

It’s a fringe sport, it get that, but why the need for them to wreck the canvas and feminine appeal by inking up and covering the work?

It’s driving me away from even coming here to look.

They're not building muscle or getting tattoos to get your approval.   You've said yourself it's not lessening as a trend. They are free to do what  they like.

Ok Politesociety, I'll bite.

People are wondering why the BB sport is losing fans.  They get jacked up on juice, grow the jawlines, deepen the voice, almost look like drag queens, and then cover themselves with more tats than a Marine Corps depot and it turns people off.  The ink is starting to become ridiculous and its spreading to all classes.  Just as tats and ink have grown in popularity, so has the spread here but it seems its going overboard in this sport.

Any girl back in the 90's with some muscle and maybe a discrete tat or two is my pick.

You take women with body image issues, narcissism, and add the ink and it screams LOOK AT ME.  When people comment negatively, it should be expected.  It's their choice, sure, but understand what it does to this sport and its competitors.

First off, your pick matters to you, not to everyone. Whether it's overboard or not is neither objective, nor for you to decide.

Second, you can't keep saying "it's their choice" and then qualifying it with reasons why they shouldn't do what they want with their own body to fit your aesthetic.

Some people will be turned off, others will like it. Even if this means the sport becomes less popular, then that's how it is. People in this sport aren't supposed to do whatever the fans want to themselves just to please. They can, but again, it's their choice (full stop, not with qualifiers).

Hell, a muscular female body is still in itself a very unpopular look with most mainstream people. Should they stop being like that too?
